I've tried with three different free versions for hours on Windows 11. Install, uninstall, install, uninstall, restart etc. for hours! I reinstalled DaVinci, and it was still not working. It shows installed everywhere, in store (installed, not purchased) and on the computer. After 2,5 hours, I figured I wasn't able to run the same files in Windows Media Player - which means, the installed file isn't working. SOLUTION was, to buy the original from Microsoft Store. Works like a charm.

finally worked for me, others were just saying relink, but mine was a fresh install and just selected a file and it said "Media Offline" , downloaded the codec and after a restart, it worked !!

Hi, Vital question I used to transfer videos by phone cable from iphone to PC , the video displayed on PC would be double the size on iphone (which is good and expected), the codec of the vid shows H.264 on PC and the quality is just good and natural. Now when I transfer the very same video, from the same iphone to the very same PC (even to other PCs) via the same cable, the video file size is half, requires HEVC codec to play and when i downloaded hevc and okayed the video, visual quality is just bad ; bitrate is cut in half, fand file size is half than the previous copy that I had trabsferred many months ago. Also, the good quality copy that shows H.264 on PC , now shows HEVC on the iphone I only have this issue with videos now, not with pics. Inever had had it with videos before. Would you happen to know where this might come from and how to remeditae? (Full disclosure: dropbox and icloud don't help as they export the file from phone as compressed; converting codecs doesn't do anything neither; And "keep originals" option doesn't matter at all) Thank you hery much

This video helped me to search online for free version and I found even though from another website. You should target iPhone users for your video. I thing this will help others too. Hey. How do I import this h.265 footage into davinci on a windows machine. It's not showing up in the media pool and it seems to be a .mov file when I see in a folder on my computer. Whereas in the phone it is a .hevc file. Any info on this would be great!
I had the same problem on mac Monterey with drone .mov files. On the same day I shot both mp4 and mov files and the mov files would show this "media unlinked" error since import. I ended up using VLC to transform my mov files to MP4. my mac made an .m4v file; I just had to chenge the extenson to mp4 and now both Quicktime and Davinci are able to open them. it's probably not the best workaround but at least I was able to use by footage!

thanks for the video, I installed the codec, but i understood that it wasn't the actual problem. Da Vinci imports just the audio of the clip without the footage (but it remains mp4), i search the entire web fining for a solution but I find anything. Do you know how ti solve this problem??
The link is not there anymore. There is a link to another page with instructions to get the file indirectly. I downloaded, installed it, but it doesn't work. Windows Defender also finds a threat in the file.

Just followed the directions and now Davinci and even Media Player play my GoPro 12 videos no problem.

As far as I know Davinci doesn't install codecs. But I am editing 265 with the free version
