i knew pinetop, he was my friend...cared for him and traveled with him...he had a heart of gold and i never heard him say a bad word about anyone. some of you could have learned a thing or two from the old man...god bless you Top!
I just found him mentioned by Daryl Davis. He taught Daryl how to play the piano. You probably ran into him, he's hard to miss. What a great guy. I'm always happy to see comments like yours on RUclips.
@@allenjackson9399 Were you a cab driver? He knew a ton of them from getting rides home after his usual Antone's Gig/Hangout, I took him to the Grammy's when he won with Willie Big Eyes Smith...loved them both.
I knew Pinetop Perkins personally. My partner Dante Kobek and I Pete Wehle formed a "Blues Inferno," promotion company when we both lived in South Bend, Indiana. We formed the company mainly because we got tired of going to Chicago and seeing our Blues buddies and coming back late in the AM back in South Bend from Chicago. Anyway, Pinetop was one of the very first acts that we promoted at the old Z.B. Falcons club in South Bend. I do remember Pinetop saying to me....."You find em' and I'll grind em"." Yep, that was old Pinetop what a guy and what a blues musician. I shall be forever grateful in knowing him here on planet Earth.
I hung out with this god for awhile when he was up in years, he was always dressed to the nines, a young girl on each arm and a drink in hand talking about heavy metal late in the morn.... a true God! what an honor for me that he would tolerate my company
This music makes me the happiest man in the world. It makes me think about how rich I am!! 'cause this makes me realize the beautiful soul I've got and you all people, this music is for people with a great heart and beautiful soul :D
I met Pinetop one New Years Eve at a blues club/bar in Chicago, probably in the mid 80s. I was dating a blues guitarist at the time. Loved his music and Pinetop was one gracious, talented gentleman. Have never forgotten that special New Years Eve, his music and what a sweetheart he seemed to be…very humble.
Pinetop lorsque je contemple ton regard qui va au delà...je me dis que le blues est éternel ! ta musique bercera toujours nos coeurs jusqu'à lextase un grand Merci Pinetop.
R.I.P. Pinetop. You left us a treasured legacy of your magic. It cannot replace your existence in our lives but be trusted that your presence is etched in our hearts and souls for eternity.
Thank you my dear old friend, for all you taught me. Your memory will stay with us our whole lives. You were and still are an inspiration and will remain a legend. We in the blues world, will miss you deeply. Rest in Peace.
As you can all see for your selves I'm going round listening to all his stuff.....blues...boogie....just love it all...god bless them all....rip pinetop....!!!!!!!
This is a great blues musician AND that piano seems exactly in tune & a high quality one because all those wacky minors, & sevenths & sustained chords come through so beautifully when Pinetop hammers them.
Love this song, so awesome...got to meet him and hear him play in LaPorte Indiana. Great man, no one could ever fill his shoes. He was even kind enough to autograph my daughter's onesie, where I had ironed on a photo of him. She is 9 now and it is framed hanging on her wall :)
How long, how long will this immortal gem stay alive? Just about everybody played it, but I never get tired of it, it's definitely one of my all-time favorites. I also loved Jimmy Rushing and Count Basie doing it... way back in my younger days!
My mother used to bartend at the club Pinetop considered home for many years, much later in life. Regrettably, I only met him once - played bass for him on Mojo Workin' when I was 22, a little drunk and then some... so this morning I found myself crying when the subject came up. If only I had listened, rather than letting the ego-muchies and the unfun-FunK take over, I would have heard true knowledge! Awesome! R.I.F., Pinetop!
This is real good ,I read here a daughter of 9 have him on the wall ,that,s really super certain for this age.very talented is Pinetop. it is great music it will never bored.
and people In know some comments are from years ago but it don't mean your words are forgotten they are always here, this fraternity of souls :):) so take heart the world knows:)
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful song and all these informations about Pinetops Perkins! I didn't know him untill today! Someone says he's not a "good pianist", I don't play the piano so I can't say if this person is right or wrong...But there's one thing I know for sure: my ears love his playing!!!! A belgian blues fan...
I got to see Pinetop perform live at The Bayou with The Nighthawks. Back in the mid-70's. Was underage, but bought some Coors at Dixie Liquor; smoked a big fat fatty fatty and snuck into that Georgetown Bar when the bouncer got distracted by a cute lady wanting to get her three girlfriends in for free.. Stood rfont row for most of the show.... Incredible talent......and a lasting lifetime memory.
De la época de los grandes grandes: está en el cielo tocando el piano a compay segundo?? o a Muddy?? Que placer conocerlo DON SEÑOR Perkins!!!!! que viva el BLUES!!!!!

The only reason Pinetop passed on was that God needed a piano player for his band.
