  • Hamilton Camp And Bob Gibson, two renowned folksingers, singing together on Art Fein's Poker Party in Los Angeles. Gibson died in the 1990s, Camp in 2006. Gibson started in folk music in 1955 and maintained a successful career. In 1961 the two teamed up for a world-famous recording "Gibson & Camp at The Gate Of Horn," then they returned to their solo careers. Camp's 1964 Elektra album "Paths of Victory" contained several then-unrecorded Dylan songs, and his own composition "Pride Of Man," was popularized by The Quicksilver Messenger Service. Camp also enjoyed a long movie career, starting as a child actor in the 1940s. (Not tall, Camp played Mary Tyler Moore's 'short' date on an episode of her tv show.) The duo resumed performances in the late 70s.

I knew Bob well. He was my mentor. When I was a young and upcoming wannabe folk guitarist, Bob hired me as his sideman. I backed him up on the acoustic guitar in the late 60s and early 70s. We toured all around the states and Canada doing gigs together for a number of years.

I see Bob Gibson is playing a Bozo 12 string. I had Bozo do some work on my guitar. What a quiet man, but such a talent. RIP Bozo, Bob, and Hamilton.

    Thanks for posting this.
Why did I miss out on Bob Gibson in the 7o's and 80's? He's got to be one of the greatest folk singers ever.

He was considered one of the best in the late 50ies and early 60ies but he vanished from the exploding folk-scene in the mid-sixties and unfortunately somehow lost much of his following until he re-emerged in the 70ies

What was the TV show that Hamilton Camp and Henry Gibson did in the early 70's that was yanked after one or two airings ??

Saw these 2 lunatics at the Earl many times. So long ago, so young, didn't know how good they truly were.

Another site says it was recorded on 5/21/87, Wouldn't be surprised if it was one of their last performances together. A tragedy that were barely appreciated outside of Chicago.

He played in my coffee house the Daily Grind - Nashville, IN sometime in the early 80's. Have never know anyone to be one with their interment as Bob was with his 12 string.

Amazing video, and thanks for posting it.
What show is this from, and when did it air? From what they look like, my guess is late 80's or early 90's.

I heard them do this Shel Silverstein tune in Chicago with Tom Paxton as a third voice. Tom jokingly called the group "Peter, Paul and Peter."
