It doesn't surprise me that someone made a Dark Souls speed run this well done... it was bound to happen eventually, it does for every popular game. What amazes me is this got posted barely over three weeks after the game was released. How could someone possibly master this game so quickly?
@seaton331 yeah... DarkRoot Garden and/or Basin are needed, as is New Londo, you forgot however that the Depth's and Lower Undead Burg are optional, you can also skip most of the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith if you rank up in the Chaos Covenent. then again, if glitches are not ommited then you can also skip the Duke's Archives, Tomb of the Giants, The Catacombs, Darkroot Garden and Basin, Demon Ruins, and Lost Izalith, because you can glitch past the doors into the Kiln.
@BananaCake26 He used Gold Pine Resin when he was using the axe, which adds lightning damage. Then he got the Drake Sword (a very good weapon early on) from cutting off the dragon's tail.
@Lucarray Yea darkroot is optional, it has an optional covenant, and sif is optional, the only thing you get from him is a soul and the ring to get into the abyss, you can completely skip that area
@lCHAOSREACTIONl Speed runs originated in DOOM, in North America. Canada to be more specific, as the practice is first noted as being done by Christina Norman, who now works at Bioware Montreal. And gold farming didn't start with Starcraft, it started with Ultima Online. And again, it wasn't Asia that did it first, it was Europe/Russia that started that trend, but it didn't catch on until EQ, which had every country doing it. /history lesson
@canadiananim8r no i know it's awesome, ive been there (didn't use the glitch), and honestly, that buster dragonsword is outrageous, but is there more to that place?
@BOXN1 the prologue cut scene? yeah I saw that something about those 4 guys having a war with the dragons. But when you actually start playing that guy next to the bonfire just tells you to ring the bell. The way the developers made this game just feels like they cared very little about the story. Its a good game though
@Supahx i dont have the game but i assume bolts would work for the distance shot and if he hangs down you can probably hit him with the sword... not sure maybe look up a video on how to get the sword
At 05:59 he opened a chest with Gold Pine Resin inside. You can apply it to an unenchanted weapon. You can use it like you would use a flask but then on a +15 weapon, but you can't use it on a +5 fire weapon.
@Gorgonzolanudeln The dragon weapons all have special powers when you do the two-hand strong attack. In the case of the Drake Sword, the one he's using, that power is a projectile that travels along the ground in a straight line. These attacks all use up durability, so you can't spam it or the weapon will break. Plus yoou'll be constantly spending to repair it. Drake's good for the very beginning. After Undead burg ditch it and use something else (that you upgrade. Upgrading is key!!)
@hylian1987 its always open when u arive there (pull the trigger at the bonfire). an unhollow soldier closes it after a short while. if u rush through the area u can catch it easily.
@Gamester2386 you only need 11 str to two-hand drake sword (you get 50% more on your str modifier when two-handing something ie. drake sword's requirement of 16str can be used if you use 11+ (11 x 0.5) = 16.5)
He never said he didn't play it before, his knowledge of the game is on display for all to see. This is a speedrun, so he is bypassing a lot of stuff you would normally stop and pick up for the sake of speed. It's a challenge--how fast can I beat this game? The videos are great for tips on getting through tough areas and beating bosses.
@ThePerQui I didn't actually mean is it NG+. It was sarcasm that was lost in translation. It's still ridiculous that he runs through everything and pwns bosses in an instant. But he's Japanese, and this is clearly what they have been doing since the beginning of video games.
I know it is possible to ring Quelaag's bell before the Gargoyle's, but that's only if you intentionally skip the undead Church. There is still only one real way to go, because you can't go through the Abyss without going through the Burg, and the Giants tomb is almost impossible for a beginner. And yes I listen to the dialogue, but the hint about undead Church is almost no help at all.
This is beyond ridiculous. I'm right at the end of the game on my first run (just over 100 hours). I couldn't imagine replicating this if I'd been playing Dark Souls for a decade, let alone the few months it's been out.
@xSam016x But how did he get that at the beginning of the game? Is it like game+ like the first one, were you keep your shit. But then it isn't really as impressive as people are saying. Surely a speed run should be a brand new game, no carried over items or skills.
@whiteangel132 it's a speedrun, he probably finished the game 4-5 times before learning all the dungeons and methods to beat the game in 90mins, i have done several speedruns before, you just have to avoid everything that can be a waste of time
What was that move he preformed against the knight guarding the fire keeper's soul, the power move which had moved through the ground, is it exclusive to the drake sword?
@BZzDyRe You do realize the one playing pretty much knows everything he or she needs to do, right? No stopping, no backtracking, no hesitating whether or not to get a treasure chest. Any game gets easier when you've played it before. Dark Souls is incredibly hard the first time, though.
It's a special move from the drake sword when you 2 hand it and press R2 (PS3) or RT (X-Box) || (To 2 hand a weapon u have to press the triangle button (PS3) or the Y Button (X-Box)
@Kanuuna don't feel bad, this person has beaten the game many times. He or she has memorized every enemy pattern, I'm not saying they don't have skill, all I am saying is they have played this game a lot. By the time I beat Demon's Souls for the 6th time it wasn't nearly as hard the first or second. Remember practice makes perfect
It's not an AI, you just have to program the button sequence and how long it is pressed, the RTA is just an interpreter who executes the orders, so basically when you programm a run it's a Trial and Error unless there are another method.
@dathwampeer He's two handing the weapon so it does more damage. Against bosses he is enchanting with golden pine resin which does major lightning damage too. It's legit.
It does not tell you where to go, when you get out of the asylum you have 3 options and only one of them is right. All the guy at the fire says is ring the bells of awakening, and that doesn't help at all because you have no idea where they are or what anything is.
@vargtegel the two gargoyles are the hardest for you? have you gotten past them? they are incredibly easy. there halth is pathetic, and the moves are easily blocked
@cjlaw100 Get out of the depths. You don't need to go through them. Go to Valley of the drakes... it's hard to explain how to get there without the master key, so if you haven't found it yet, look it up. After you get to the Valley of the Drakes, make the first left you can. The passage is Semi-hidden and you won't find it unless you look for it. Follow the path until you get to a big ass dragon. The entrance to Blighttown is literally right there. The Depths were made to make the game harder.
it seems i over looked what class and weapon you should pick,i just went for coolest looking, as i was way to high to bother. also how did he make his weapon all electric
I don't understand how he made the Hellkite Dragon leave his perch without attacking him (by throwing something) or kicking the ladder shortcut (which changes Wyrm behavior) without that the dragon just never leaves the place he settles in. Probably something changed after they patched the game (specifically to correct the Dragon disappear glitch problem) in any case it doesn't matter, but I found it curious.
This video is a great help with beating this level though. I doubt anyone thought to slash at the dragon's tail to get that sword but that sword is the ONLY way you will be able to beat the gargoyles at the end unless you feel like grinding for 4 hours straight to level up. I do recommend getting your str to 16 asap so you can effectively use the sword with a shield. Once you get the hang of this game it really isnt bad. You want something hard, try Battle Kid
enemy levels dont scale. On startup all enemies have set attack/defense. So him "not leveling up" just makes it harder for him to beat it. However, using pyromancy makes it a lot easier as pyromancy spells are the strongest in the game with the pitfall that they dont scale with stats.
about the hellkite you can lure him out by hiding there or on the opposite side, and his fire dosent 1 hit all the time, i have no idea why but sometimes it does some damage and somtimes it kills ya no matter what. i kinda learned these things by dieing. a lot. at 9:14 he didnt get hit cause he rolled out of the way at 10:26 yea the game acts a bit odd with hit detection and elevation
@PeppeN85 lol u can have more than 2 pyro spells with points into attunement or with a white seance ring..he probably leveled till he had 4 attunement slots
I followed this walkthrough exactly and it took me about 25 hours to beat the game it took me forever to beat smough boss and i also had a hard time with the last boss and the fire lady boss. this guys got da maddest skils.
@ikumalof quelag was hard too cause she isnt weak to fire, but once i learned how to beat the last boss (just circle around and use combustion) i killed him pretty quickly, he gets stunned if you use combustion. hardest boss by far was smough and ornstein
Not really... the first part of it is, yes. But once Firelink is reached and onwards he is into the thick of it. He hits Firelink at a mere 3 mins in (less than a quarter of this video's total length).
@BOXN1 Like most people I dont bother reading item descriptions because most of it is just lore , yeah I talk to the ones Iv come across but theres barely any NPC's in the game and most of them talk in old english and voice acting is pretty cheesey so I dont bother taking note of what most had to say. I dont know since the story is very minimal anyway and thing is most people just tend to PLAY the game rather then reading the stuff in it and since its fictional most dont really care.
Leveling isn't too important, as long as you have the stats to wield what you want. What you need to do is upgrade your weapons at the blacksmith. You can go through the game without ever leveling if you have a good enough weapon.
And for the record,it is possible to ring Quelaag's bell before the Gargoyles. The game is very open ended and there is next to no hand-holding.You should know this when going into a Souls game.Try reading some item descriptions or making sure to listen to all of a characters dialouge next time.

I like how he spent more time going up to ring the church bell than actually fighting the boss that took me two weeks at lvl. 50.
It doesn't surprise me that someone made a Dark Souls speed run this well done... it was bound to happen eventually, it does for every popular game. What amazes me is this got posted barely over three weeks after the game was released. How could someone possibly master this game so quickly?
Still the best Dark Souls speed run on the internet even though it is one of the slowest, it's still the best one.

Thank you, for someone else doing the dragon on the bridge in the way it was intended!
You accomplished in minutes what I spent all day doing. Bravo.
@Lucarray Yea darkroot is optional, it has an optional covenant, and sif is optional, the only thing you get from him is a soul and the ring to get into the abyss, you can completely skip that area

@JayworksMJ 2-handing is 1.5 * strength. so he effectively has 18 when two-handing
@canadiananim8r no i know it's awesome, ive been there (didn't use the glitch), and honestly, that buster dragonsword is outrageous, but is there more to that place?

5:37 "He's doing a speedrun! We gotta stop him!"
@FatManDan156 if you 2h the drake sword and press R2, you will do that. As a tradeoff it will decrease the resistance of the sword severely
@TheScathed That's true. Every game has an element of predictability though. If you play a game enough, you learn what to do and when to do it
@Lucarray The four kings is optional... the only reason you need to do the four kings is if you want the bad guy ending
He never said he didn't play it before, his knowledge of the game is on display for all to see. This is a speedrun, so he is bypassing a lot of stuff you would normally stop and pick up for the sake of speed. It's a challenge--how fast can I beat this game? @LordSteemo did u watch the vid? this is just one of the parts of his speedrun. he finished in 1:26:28
@insaneshadow85 Nope. The magic works on charges just like the Estus Flask healing. They recharge when you rest at bonfires.
Holy mother of aptitude! Even if I was Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, I couldn't do this.
I didn't know such thing was possible. Thank you for this upload.
I know it is possible to ring Quelaag's bell before the Gargoyle's, but that's only if you intentionally skip the undead Church. My thoughts too! It's not just that he killed bosses etc, its the way he plays, accurately and no mistakes. This guy's a pro.
This is beyond ridiculous. I'm right at the end of the game on my first run (just over 100 hours). I couldn't imagine replicating this if I'd been playing Dark Souls for a decade, let alone the few months it's been out.

@ImWatchingYouShower Master Key has unlimited uses which is why most people regard it as the best starting gift unless you're going thief.
@seaton331 Sif is 100% required, as you need the Ring of Astoras in order to fight the Four Kings.
@seaton331 no, you need to kill the four kings in order to get its soul to access the final area in the game
@socalkevinz Yeah .. unfortunately this is not a Speedrun, . .. 1:26:28 is all the time he has to relax PER MONTH!!
@fpsisfun He's Japanese. Game's been out in Japan since September.
Did i just watch a guy rapping a game i don't even have during 12min? :o
You, sir, have won an internet!
It is impressive because this speedrun was done only a few days after release. Check the video upload date ;)
@BZzDyRe You do realize the one playing pretty much knows everything he or she needs to do, right? No stopping, no backtracking, no hesitating whether or not to get a treasure chest. Any game gets easier when you've played it before. Dark Souls is incredibly hard the first time, though.
@ez133 oh and also, the bosses scale to your level so beating them at lv. 1-10 with the drake sword can be much easier then delaying it.

really good job, but where is the HD video option ??
@Kanuuna don't feel bad, this person has beaten the game many times. @Lucarray sry too, i was pissed off yesterday, your comment didnt help my situation
It's not an AI, you just have to program the button sequence and how long it is pressed, the RTA is just an interpreter who executes the orders, so basically when you programm a run it's a Trial and Error unless there are another method.
Damn fine speed run, Mr.
@dathwampeer He's two handing the weapon so it does more damage. Against bosses he is enchanting with golden pine resin which does major lightning damage too. It's legit.
i love how at 5:38 the guy closes the door out of fear
My game clock is 8 hours. The player in this vid is at the same spot in 9 minutes.
It took you that long to get to that spot?! o_O
That's seriously moving way too slowly.
It does not tell you where to go, when you get out of the asylum you have 3 options and only one of them is right. All the guy at the fire says is ring the bells of awakening, and that doesn't help at all because you have no idea where they are or what anything is.
@shadowcrazy I'm aware the player in the video is significantly better than most of us, but it does look possible no?
@warmaxxx yeah thats why it was named one of the hardest games ever created by Dailymail.
Strong attack with the Drake Sword - sends out a shock wave.
@SaikyoMantis This one does. Quite fast if I say so myself.
@DoctorJPierce I have killed the boss a couple of times. Should mention that I play a Thief with a dagger only and the starting buckler.
@SimianSpy dont worry, if he didnt have the drake sword this first part would take him way longer.
@Orikuu no it doesnt thats ridiculous, it has one use, or else it earily would be the best, because the master key can open 90% of locks
@ImWatchingYouShower he had the master key in the beginning as the gift or w.e He's using a pyro so they come with an axe and fire spells.
Holy shit. I think I played 25 hours and died at least 100 times before I got to where this video ends. Kudos for mad skills
@tmelot He was using them while he waited for the dragon to fly down to attack him.
@vargtegel the two gargoyles are the hardest for you? have you gotten past them? they are incredibly easy. there halth is pathetic, and the moves are easily blocked
@Link00065 This game is considered to be one of the hardest games this generation, and from experience I know it to be true.
@cjlaw100 Get out of the depths. You don't need to go through them. Go to Valley of the drakes... it's hard to explain how to get there without the master key, so if you haven't found it yet, look it up. @scottcarmichael 2 hand weilding increases damage + axes do great damage
it seems i over looked what class and weapon you should pick,i just went for coolest looking, as i was way to high to bother. also how did he make his weapon all electric
@VelkanMusic also you can see he's level 1 every time he switches weapons
I don't understand how he made the Hellkite Dragon leave his perch without attacking him (by throwing something) or kicking the ladder shortcut (which changes Wyrm behavior) without that the dragon just never leaves the place he settles in.
Probably something changed after they patched the game (specifically to correct the Dragon disappear glitch problem) in any case it doesn't matter, but I found it curious.
@91591591 you put the game down because of the conventional ragdoll physix? This game got that aswell, it got carried over from the last game.
This video is a great help with beating this level though. I doubt anyone thought to slash at the dragon's tail to get that sword but that sword is the ONLY way you will be able to beat the gargoyles at the end unless you feel like grinding for 4 hours straight to level up. @SickneZZ2 i hate how it was advertised around difficulty, wasnt hard but its so good in many other aspects
@blueyourmom123 u can also shoot his tail with arrows to get that sword
it takes like 30 wood or something like that
now that i've seen the whole runthrough, im curious..... IS THE ASH LAKE STORY RELATED AT ALL?!
@dfghj241 Its limited to 8 but it regenerates When you reach a bonfire. Same with every other spell in the game.
@Kanuuna Yeah me too, but hey this game is hard so taking our time to play is cool.
I followed this walkthrough exactly and it took me about 25 hours to beat the game it took me forever to beat smough boss and i also had a hard time with the last boss and the fire lady boss. this guys got da maddest skils.
how do you sprint ?and jump
@ikumalof quelag was hard too cause she isnt weak to fire, but once i learned how to beat the last boss (just circle around and use combustion) i killed him pretty quickly, he gets stunned if you use combustion. hardest boss by far was smough and ornstein
@TacticoolOperator video editing is a great tool.
Not really... the first part of it is, yes. But once Firelink is reached and onwards he is into the thick of it. He hits Firelink at a mere 3 mins in (less than a quarter of this video's total length).
@007zezima Hold B to sprint, then tap B and release to jumproll.
How do you do 9:25 where he puts his sword overhead then slams it on the ground?
@stefman666 i didnt bother reading your comment BUT... I LOVE YOU BIG MAN
@BOXN1 Like most people I dont bother reading item descriptions because most of it is just lore , yeah I talk to the ones Iv come across but theres barely any NPC's in the game and most of them talk in old english and voice acting is pretty cheesey so I dont bother taking note of what most had to say. I dont know since the story is very minimal anyway and thing is most people just tend to PLAY the game rather then reading the stuff in it and since its fictional most dont really care.
Hey wait, how'd he open the door at 5:54 without buying the key from the merchant? Or does the master key get that door too?
@ZombieSlaver the two handed strong attack with the Drake Sword shoots out a projectile
Leveling isn't too important, as long as you have the stats to wield what you want. What you need to do is upgrade your weapons at the blacksmith. You can go through the game without ever leveling if you have a good enough weapon.
very few souls to kill gargoyles and taurus demon as well
@aux619 what did he take off of the saint other than humanity?
@ConceptOfZero Yes. Yes it is.
And for the record,it is possible to ring Quelaag's bell before the Gargoyles. The game is very open ended and there is next to no hand-holding.You should know this when going into a Souls game.Try reading some item descriptions or making sure to listen to all of a characters dialouge next time.
@SSSIappy138 i cannot wait to play it! did they bring back levitation? that was my favourite part about morrowind. dark souls should have it as well. hmm, did you ever notice in the beginning, after the prison escape, that one bird that carries you away is sitting along the stone fence near the religious cult dude? yes, the bird is just sitting there on top, to his left. with levitation it would be possible to knock it off and then smash it to bloody, shattered feathery bits.
i just love the moment at 5:37 where the guy just closes the like nope (Trollface)
@Spartachris300 do bolts or a longsword work?
@venomblader
a lot of ppl dnt kno about monster hunter , dark souls kinda has tha sns controls but its at a slower pace
