The Gurdjieff work is a practical method for self-awakening in our modern age. I've read the comments regarding the man Gurdjieff, pro and con. One comment was that Gurdjieff was a conman. Not true. His basic premise is that humanity is for the most part, asleep. They are. The Gurdjieff work IS work. It is work on a myriad of physical, spiritual and psychological levels. It is not a quick and easy practice affording guaranteed results. I believe it to be a true and ancient practice of immense value which may lead to levels of awakening, perhaps even full awakening. Gurdjieff did not enrich himself at the expense of his students. Every student began at different levels of preparation. Many Gurdjieffians will invest years and decades into the work, then leave. To each his own. I believe there is a propensity for some work adherents to become dependent on the "work community", yet their personal progress becomes stunted hence they become part of the background environment. You reap what you sow. Knowing one's wish and developing your magnetic center in alignment with the work should your aim. Work consciously and suffer with intention. Ouspenky's "In Search of the Miraculous" "Fragments of a Lost Teaching" I would recommend listening to Jacob Needleman who began the work under John Pentland (One of Gurdjieff's students.) Needleman explains the work with carefully selected wording. There is a presence about Dr. Needleman which conveys that he is not merely 'talking through his hat'. He is talking with precision from direct knowledge. and decades of work. I recommend listening to this particular interview over and over. I recommend closing your eyes and just listening to the sound and intention of Jacob's voice. I personally skip over the interviewer's somewhat long-winded commentaries. Dr. Needleman's effort in this dialogue comes through and aptly conveys his knowledge with clarity. I have not yet found any evidence of this, nor any mention of Gurdjieff or Ouspensky in Jung’s writings. One of the followers of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, Dr. Maurice Nicoll, did work with Jung for a time, and Nicole’s book “Dream Psychology” is considered an excellent presentation of Jung’s psychology.
Jung did know about gurdjieff and unfortunately he stated something along the lines of “pursuits which entail no promises are of no interest to me, proof is of upmost necessity and gurdjieff can not provide that.”

Very good overview by Ken James. Well presented. I am curious about Jung.s "The Red Book". I intend to get a copy one day soon.

I have not yet found any evidence of this, nor any mention of Gurdjieff or Ouspensky in Jung’s writings. Gaia is just another euphamsm created by new agers and there is no such thing as new age anytiing, it is all just a realization of ancient knowledge and experiences. When we get too far away from this knowledge society fails miserably and we are now there.
