I got 5 axis machines in 2010 - the configuration saved an enormous amount of time! I did mainly 3+2 which allowed our 6-7 setup parts to be done in 2 setups and going from 6 sets of custom soft jaws to one. The speed improvement doing proto and small batches was amazing. Eventually, we learned to design parts with much more sophisticated geometry and there was no real penalty in the CNC.
We are not a job shop, but rather a manufacturer of end products. The faster we make parts, the lower our costs and the larger the market we can pursue. In the context of a cnc job shop, the price would have to reflect the capability. I know some people bid jobs based on the time it takes for a more common 3 axis approach and then use the 5 axis machine to make the parts in 1/3 the time. The customer pays the same, but the shop rate effectively goes up. In my case, we started designing parts that were so complicated that a 5 axis machine was the only practical way to make them. That is when I realized that it is hard to outsource (in my area). The only shops with 5 axis are aerospace or some other high-end application and thier rates are crazy high.

kracykat12 Yes you just have to order the feature from your Haas dealer and they will give you an unlock code to enable it permanently. You should check because you might get some hours of free demo use on your machine. Like high speed machining you get 200 hours before you have to buy.
I honestly don't know, but I do know my 2014 at work has the option. Looks like its about $1395 currently for coordinate rotation and scaling, and $4995 for Dynamic Work Offsets and Tool Center Point Control.

Factory400 do you price your parts differentially per hour or just make the part on shorter time?

Loving this series. The videos are very informative and well produced.
I love Haas! Great videos!!
This should be taught in classrooms. As is! Great start for a conversation
Excellent videos, can you recommend me a good book about 5 axis?
Where's episode 3? Loving the series so far.
Can you supply a link to calculate overcoming the brake torque I can’t find it. Or maybe have terrberry do a tip of the day on it! Thank you
Nice job, John!
Thank you! We are all working hard on producing stand-out videos that really inform and improve peoples experience using our products.
Loving and long term plans involve a haas mill this was good to think :) Going to need EU price catalog soon xP
I'm learning a head-head set up. how different is it from these trunnion?
I want to learn sales knowledge from you sir....
haha, i was literally afraid of 5axis machines, but after watching these videos, not anymore.
Do you still need HSM if your CAM program has those toolpaths? Fusion 360 for example
Yes. Anytime you have a combination of short strokes and high feed rates, you will need the High Speed Machining option. - John
Is that last years Daytona 500 winner the background?
No, that is the Martinsville, Spring 2014 winner. The first Cup win with Haas Automation Inc. as the primary sponsor. - John
Very good
awesome
I hope by the end I know how to machine a cylinder head
Is there any way to get dynamic work offsets on my vf2ss? We have a trunnion in it

Dans Workshop ok cool. Thank you for the information. I’ll give them a call tomorrow
Dans Workshop sorry for the question but will it work on any haas? My machine was made In 2014

Unfortunately, it requires a Next-Generation Control which was not available in 2014. - John
