  • This is my second footage, using some recordings available. This bootleg was recorded in 1977-05-09 - Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA. This YT movie has low quality but it is available in other formats with better quality.
I hope you will enjoy it.
It includes the song "Pigs on the Wing 1" from Roger Waters.

@@heavymetal1330 I am Italian so my english wasnt really good when I started to listen to pink floyd, back in middle school. So, on a melodic level, I was more a fan of the wall or dark side back then. As my english improved, and after reading The Animal Farm by Orwell, I started to get a grasp on Animals Lyrics. And oh boy, I feel like Animals has borderline among the best (and badass) lyrics in rock history. Period.

I was at the first U.S. In the Flesh ‘77 show in Miami. I had seen Zeppelin in Tampa a few months earlier and thought “nothing” would ever compare. Hearing both Wish You Were Here and Animals played in their entirety was like being in Heaven. After the show I was soaked from the intensity of the music. To this day I envision Floyd every time I hear any of those songs. Simply moving, in a way I’ve never experienced before or since.

It's hard to sometimes explain the sound we heard at the Chicago show. There were only 5 guys on stage Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour and White. At times the Floyd Shook Soldier Field like a rag doll and a moment later 100K fans were silent listening to sounds never before heard by human ears. Then 100K people fucking screaming, man it was something.

Yes, 1977: I lived in Chicago and was there. Show was at Soldier Field (where the Chicago Bear's play). When configured for football games, the stadium holds 61,500. Yet, since the field area was also used for the crowd, attendance was 70,000 plus!
The thing that struck and impressed me the most, was that they did something I never saw before, or even afterwards:
They had a quadraphonic P.A. set up, front/back/right/left. They would pan sounds around, which sounded awesome in the dark. About that . . . . .
One huge misstep I think the band, or the venue made was: Soldier Field is an open air stadium (no roof). That meant, due to the nature of the shows lighting and other effects (we got to see and touch the giant pig as it hovered low over the crowd on the field! lol), they would/could not play until it was totally dark outside. BUT, the venue opened at I believe about 12:00 (noon). It was general admission, so, tons of people were there to have a chance to get on the field (as I did). Yet - 1) It was a hot summer day and, no place to hide from the sun - 2) Once you got your spot, it hit you after a while that you had like SEVEN HOURS before you would see the show - 3) EVERYONE was smoking weed. - 4) They did not have ANY warm up band. 5) Logistics of food, water, going to the bathroom, while waiting SO long. . . . It all added up to a sunburned, hot, stoned and tired crowd - not what you want as a band.
Looking back, the venue should not have open the doors until only say, an hour or two before the start of the show. And yes, I SO wish that show would have been professionally shot on film! There were many unique aspects of that Chicago show that are not in the other, rare and few film clips from shows in other cities.

Will we ever see a professional recording of these shows? They must exist. Surely the band and their management had the footage filmed. So frustrating. Come on Floyd!! we're all desperate to see this stuff. It's well overdue. Thought it might have been released as part of the albums 35th anniversary. No luck. They love keeping the fans waiting for stuff.

None of the shows were professionally recorded but I did read once that Roger had some taped so he could watch and improve the stage set up and so on. Not sure if they do exist and if the do...doubtful the will ever see the light of day.

    • @KingLoop13
      @KingLoop13 8 лет назад +81

They were never professionally recorded due to Roger's arrogance at the whole idea that his concerts should be recorded. He believed his concerts were a once in a lifetime experience that could not be replicated by film, and that if you could not see it in person, you couldn't see it at all. I suppose he achieved his goal in the end though, as this footage is pretty rare and Floyd concerts are the stuff of legend.

Don't listen to these dickheads The Wall shows were absolutely commissioned to be recorded live and were absolutely done so. One of the original ideas for the Wall movie was to intercut live footage from the shows throughout the Scarfe animations etc. Where do you think the crispy footage of Roger singing "Mother" circa 1980 that was used throughout his updated Wall tour came from? So this no live footage bs is fake news. Mason has also mentioned several times that the Floyd offices are full of confiscated bootleg videos PLUS shows they filmed for themselves for production and evaluation purposes. The problem is none of them CBA about it and the sense I get (from Mason anyway) is because it's not A+ quality they don't want to release it and be accused of being greedy. Look at the work Jimmy Page puts into maintaining and rereleasing the Zep catalogue and how he utilizes and incorporates the latest technological innovations / rarities from bootlegs etc into the Zep box sets and album clean ups (5.1 etc...) neither Roger or David (especially David) have zero interest in going backwards maintaining PINK FLOYD...both also have had a lot of success as solo artists and are still periodically recording new material and touring where as Page isn't...so what would you rather?

  • @goddessinme333

    "Dogs" - "Animals" (1977)
You got to be crazy, gotta have a real need
Gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You got to be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You got to strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
Yeah, and in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
    Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you lose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
    Dragged down by the stone.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And everything's done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.
Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a pat on the back
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Who was dragged down by the stone.

Looking back, the venue should not have open the doors until only say, an hour or two before the start of the show. And yes, I SO wish that show would have been professionally shot on film! There were many unique aspects of that Chicago show that are not in the other, rare and few film clips from shows in other cities.

a fond memory: was 16 years old and over at a friend's house, he just picked up a copy of the new Floyd album. He put it on the stereo, then rolled a joint of something really good, and within 15 minutes I felt catapulted to a new dimension. The song was "Dogs."

Mostly Dave playing guitar, but he's joined by guitarist Snowy White. I saw this show in Cincinnati when I was 16 years old. One of the best shows, ever. First use of the inflatables.

      @scooter6172 8 лет назад +2

+james woody I was at that Cincinnati show too. I was 14 years old and only 2 months after seeing Zep on the first night 4/19/77. First show I attended with reserve seating, black out curtains at every opening to the seating area from the concession area. The speaker system located around the arena. The whole Animals album, intermission, the whole Wish You Were Here album, encore Money. What a show. I'll never forget before the lights went down, turning to my neighbor Terry who I went with, and saying.."Listen...do you hear birds chirping..? ..yea..listen..I hear sheep too...lol...yes!" The lights went down and I would never be the same person again....just wonderful. I am so glad that even then I realized the 'event' I was witnessing...ps: I still have the tour book!

    • @jawoody9745
      @jawoody9745 8 лет назад

Robert Scott R Awesome. Remember the break when the lights went back on and they fed "pink noise" into the quadraphonic speakers in the upper seats? I was ALSO at the 4/19 Zeppelin show!!! It killed me that I couldn't attend the 4/20 show the next night, as well!

    • @scooter6172
      @scooter6172 8 лет назад +1

I dont really remember the pink noise so much no. But yea the quad. speaker banks...we were sitting, looking out from the stage, back right 2 rows into second level. That Zep show on the 19th was the first time I ever skipped school lol.

    • @jawoody9745
      @jawoody9745 8 лет назад +1

Robert Scott R (Led Zeppelin) Me too!! My girlfriend at the time and I skipped school and got there early to get a good seat. (We didn't have reserved seats for Zep. We were directly looking at the stage from straight ahead from the front). Remember, there was no announcement, certainly no opening band(s) and the lights went out at exactly 8:00 pm? And then Page started the chords for "The Song Remains the Same" and he and Robert danced in from the opposite sides of the stage?? I fucking flipped out!

I saw this tour in 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago about a month or two after this concert.Every person I've talked to saw them in a outdoor arena like I did. They were using the quadraphonic sound system from the 76 olympics so they must have needed a hell of a lot of room. That was the best concert I've ever seen. You can't beat having heard it live, but I have caught a few good bootlegs.I knew a guy back then who bootlegged concerts semi-professionally and had a list of over 150 shows. He used small high quality equipment that he would tape to his upper back, and the mic.,s on top of his shoulder's.I think he was caught only twice, and he always managed to get his equipment back.Lucky bastard.

I saw Dogs played by a little cover band (Floyd Memory) and I congratulate this band for playing this fabulous song not very commercial and as captivating musically as with such striking lyrics:
    "You have to be trusted
by the people that you lie to.
So that, when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in !!!
    ...
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
Dragged down by the stone (stone, stone, stone, stone, stone)
    ...
Who was drag down by the stone."
Roger is my favorite lyricist. He is not afraid of controversy and he affirms loud and clear his mainly political and humanist opinions. With Gilmour on guitar, they were one of the best bands on the planet! Nothing less!
    My favorite records:
    1. Animals (Dogs ... a pure masterpiece ... Wow!)
    2. Wish you were here (Progressive rock at its best.)
    3. Dark side of the moon (What a masterpiece!)
    4. The wall (What a striking concept album!)
    5. Atom heart mother (For that splendid and underappreciated song!)
    6. Meddle (Echoes: one of the best pieces in PF.)
Yes: "Nation of Sheeps, rules by Dogs, owned by Pigs!"

My fav PF album too. Been listening to PF recently again - Animals, WYWH, DSM even Meddle and parts of The Wall. Actually went to the In the Flesh concert at Bingley Hall in Stafford UK n 1977 - still at school. Too young to fully appreciate it - but vividly remember the uncomfortable straw matting as everyone sat down, the flying pig with glowing red eyes, the amazing video work and of course flawless music - my first ever gig and probably the best....

Ahhhhhh Oakland 1977. Great show. Had this first on vynal then cassette, then CD, now its on my IPod. I collected all the live Floyd I could from the 1977 tour and this is without a doubt the best version of Dogs done on that go round. Actually the whole show is balls to the walls fantastic. Seek it out if you do not already own it. Actually there are not very many bad PF bootlegs out there. Even their early stuff almost all seems to be soundboard. Many thanks to the roadies!

Excellent find. Wasn't allowed to see them in '77, despite begging to be allowed to go, & would have needed an adult to go with anyway. Love this live version. Gilmour may well have been at his 'Best' on the '77 tour. Have seen Dogs, Pigs on the wing, Pigs performed live by Roger over the years , but sadly not Sheep, yet. Was disappointed Gilmour's Floyd version didn't play any Animals tracks on his solo or Floyd tours. Roger did tell off a fan at the back of Earls Ct in '84 for whistling during Pigs on the Wing.. continuing 'I'll be doing the whistling here, not you.' Hey, at least I got to the Berlin Wall gig, & even Floyd re-formed in Hyde Pk..

Some people say comfortably numb is Gilmour's best solo but I completely disagree. his second solo is absolutely phenomenal. Perfect build up the climax is so raw and it feels like the last couple of notes just lays you to bed after a chaotic minute and a half. Gilmour is flawless and by far my biggest inspiration.
