      As a lifetime outsider, a "lone wolf", I still knew what the majority believed, but I didn't form my beliefs based on popularity. I needed to evaluate for myself, question, apply logic and experience. As I gathered info I constantly heard: "That's the way it's done, always has been that way." I am not impressed by that "non-answer" that so many accept as valid. I made my living by doing the unexpected, not doing it "like it should be done", after careful thought, a penetrating analysis.

My advice, advance don't just bumble, but plan time for bumbling or you'll go mad.

    I found this video insightful for many reasons:
    1. You categorized "the strategist" into 3 types i.e. short term, mid term, & long term
    2. You explained the skills needed as a leader in this role
    3. You utilize examples to explain each concept with stories
    I think your attention to detail shows that you've had real life experiences learning how to develop each area. Not to mention that the confidence at which you speak makes me buy into your message much more.

    4D thinking is the ‘Chess Factor’ what are the knock on effects and stages. In short, time factor. What would the new environment look like e.g. Apple iPod when it was the original game changer, Jobs knee - he didn’t guess, he knew it would dynamically shift the entire environment-better still he knew, it would force his competition to turn their ships accordingly and he was banking on their slow turning speed (curse of large organisations) that Apple would be so far ahead and they [the competition] so busy fighting to minos (start-ups) that Apple would dominate and have open seas. It wasn’t smooth sailing, but arguably it was pretty close. Thinking in 4D is about asking yourself what legacy will out live your life, now how do you arrange your goals accordingly?

  • @l.i.n3038
    @l.i.n3038 4 года назад

    What you are essentially saying is that you have generals, you have captains and you have lieutenants. The general, plans the overall strategy. The captains and the lieutenants fulfill those plans through tactics and operations. Some tactics or operations require quick-thinking, quick-decision making leaders (Captains and Lieutenants or managers and supervisors), especially if unexpected events take place. But every strategic plan does take into account the years, months, days and hours, depending on the entire war situation which becomes known through reconnaisance and the gathering of intel. The more you know about your strengths and weaknesses and your enemies', as well as your field of operation, the better chance you have of winning.

    I agree with you 100%. What you advocate, I have been doing that for much of my career. Always consider the worse possible outcome and plan different strategies for each possible outcome. Think long term and plan according. Be unconventional if necessary.

    Wow what a great insight. Never thought about 3 levels of strategic thinkers. Mostly I am short term and on some subjects long term. E.g. as an ICT guy I only burned 10 or so cc's in my life, knowing that better technologies like mp3 and mp4 will become popular (and now they are)

    I’m a long-term strategy thinker but sometimes I let my ego and my emotions control my actions. I’m working on that. I’m always thinking, what did I do wrong? What can I do better next time? Who did I trust last time? How did that go? Who should I trust next time. I don’t trust a lot of people. I expect leaders to be on time or early and to push me to do the same. If my leaders show up late, I lose all respect and trust. I start looking for a different person to follow or I just do what I can by myself because I don’t know who to trust.

    love this. My time as a Physician Assistant in the military is explained well by this chart. Short term- My medical providers and I had to perform trauma medicine to piece together and prepare the immediate threat(s) to the trauma patient but then, they were sent to to surgery for more management which we helped manage. Then, we looked to the cause of the injury in the first place and made our recommendations and changes. For instance, we had an influx of soldiers with eye injuries from blasts, we treated immediately, decreased swelling, and then sent to surgeons to get the best correction available then in our review of the problem/opportunity, we realized eye protection could reduce the number of injuries and the number later sent to surgery. Working in all three areas has made me greatly flexible and always vigilant of ways in can make the connection between these areas and how I can mitigate the scenario to benefit my desired outcome.
