Reginald VelJohnson is such a phenomenal actor! Between Turner & Hooch and Die Hard i can’t just pick one. They’re both just so damn good i love them both!
This movie is such an underrated moment in Tom Hanks’s career. I am 100% convinced that part of the reason he became the biggest star in the world is because so many people watched him so convincingly go through something so relatable with that ending. It made him family to them.
Hooch is a mastiff and they are an extremely intelligent but RIDICULOUSLY emotional breed. I can imagine if the dog was raised trained he had no problem with the roll. (We have an Italian mastiff and I've never seen a dog legitimately POUT before😂).
The bit where Hanks screams at Hooch for eating the car was used in the first animation tests for Woody in Toy Story. Just to see if Hanks voice fit the character, and was used to convince him to take the role.
I think my fav6line of this whole movie is "Stupid dog!!" Just because of how Tom delivers it, lol. And yes, once I saw Toy Story I always picture that line coming out of Woody's mouth.
Another neat fact about that scene is that is basically just "let the cameras roll and let Tom and the dog improv." There's lots of outtakes from that scene cuz I guess it was a real "Robin Williams in the booth recording for Aladdin" kinda moment.

Tom Hanks' superpower is being able to yell without sounding abusive. They tried a TV series based on this movie, it failed because it was a guy yelling at a dog.
They tried the tv show twice. First version in 1990 only had a pilot and it was with Tom Wilson who famously played Biff in Back to the Future. In 2021 they did a whole season with Josh Peck who is supposed to be the son of the Tom Hanks character in the movie.
Yep, that was his schtick in almost every movie and, as a kid, it never got old. Too funny 😂😂 His anger just looked hysterica, like he went crazy. Best version will always be Toy Story because of his arms.
They filmed this in my hometown, and there’s a scene at the end of their car chase where they stopped near the bottom of a staircase, going up a hillside. This is one of my faves, it sits right there on my dvd shelf and I watched the whole thing the other night. I love how this movie is about a dog who teaches a man to loosen up in life, be more human and allow others to love him rather than the weird obsessive compulsive habits he has at the beginning where he does seem a bit lonely and miserable and that's why he does those things. He didn't want Hooch but then couldn't live without him in the end, and then had baby Hooch to care for once his friend sacrificed himself for him in the warehouse to get the bad guys. That dog is a hero! Love the whole thing and you're right, it looks pike that character had just 1 pair of black undies he liked chilling in at home 😂 if I was that fit, I would, too lmao
I strongly suggest Togo. It has William Dafoe and is based on an epic true story. Togo has such a personality and will leave you laughing and crying. Great movie on Disney +.

Literally screamed for joy when you said that Muppet treasure Island was on deck!! 😍🙌
Please continue with the pigtails. It’s a cute look. ❤😊
I love this movie; it has everything to watch a movie for: it's got a love story, a murder mystery (sorta, because the audience already knows whodunit), dogs, chases, and a shitload of comedy. What more could you want in a movie?
EDIT: Oh damn. I forgot about the part where Hootch dies. When I see that I lose my shit. Then, when I see the puppies I start crying all over again, but this time for joy.
With the success of "Turner and Hooch," there was a TV show called "Tequila and Bonetti," with the same breed of dog, but the show didn't last. Another cop and dog movie, "K9" with Jim Belushi, and another with Chuck Norris, which the title I can not think of.
I can whole heartedly recommend "K9".
The Chuck Norris film is called Top Dog. It's pretty good.
Yeah, K9 was great. I loved the pool-hall scene and the recurring joke with the poodle.
The Chuck Norris movie was Top Dog, iirc.
Yes. The reluctant cop with with canine movies, all seem to come out at around the same time. Top dog, with Chuck Norris, was more than a bit ridiculous.
Another of my childhood favorites out the way. So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching these movies and sharing your reaction with us.
"do it on the eggs!" Lol
Seeing John McIntire here is like driving through the city and seeing a redwood tree in the middle of the road and remembering what the forest was like.
tom hanks early work where great movies. from turner and hooch, bachelor party and dragnet and the burbs.
I would add Big, Splash and the Money Pit to that list 🔥
@@alanmurray5963 splash but on dvd/blu-ray. disney edited the movie for disney+
A great Tom Hanks movie that flies under the radar is Dragnet.
Check out a movie called K-9 with Jim Belushi and a gorgeous German Shepherd
Soooooo funny
It's a baby Hooch!!! Awww
3:11 Trouser Press, You get them in a hotel sometimes, you can put other stuff in them but they'll end up with a big crease, it's instead of an iron for roaming salesmen.
3:49 He's the cop that John McClane shouts "WELCOME TO THE PARTY PAL!" to.
"Die Hard", "Ghostbusters", and most of all "Family Matters" - and in every one of those he's playing a cop.
His name is Reginald VelJohnson.
I don't think I've ever seen a trouser press in someones home.
Dogues de Bordeaux, aka Mastiff of Bordeaux, was at the time of filming, one of the rarest dog breeds in the world, with 2000 worldwide, and only 300 in the United States.
Yeah bring tissues indeed. Should do the movie free willy
I love this one and cry every time lol. Also that's Mr. Winslow from Family Matters! I'm sure you mention it later, right? Lol.
Disney Plus had a sequel series where the vet and Turner’s son inherits a new Hooch.
And rightfully so, it was put down.
Yeah, liked it very much. Wish they would've continued it.
@@bryancurtis220I liked it. It was not the best thing on tv…but it was fun.
I strongly suggest Togo. It has William Dafoe and is based on an epic true story. Togo has such a personality and will leave you laughing and crying. Great movie on Disney +.
04:31 Family Matters, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Ghostbusters, Remo Williams, Crocodile Dundee.......
So happy to finally meet Ashleigh Junior
Reginald VelJohnson, that guy you are trying to figure out was in the Family Matters sitcom and also the Die Hard films
Always a cop.
@@vapoet He was a limo driver in Crocodile Dundee and played himself in The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee in 2020. 😉👮🚖
YES WE AR FINALLY HERE! So glad you watched this one, one of my absolute favourites of Tom Hanks!
LOVE this movie. LOVE Hanks. LOVE Mare Winningham. LOVE Hooch. Hanks always says he told them, "Don't kill the dog," but they did... xo
Yes! I remember watching this as a child and crying at the end.
Absolutely loved Turner and Hooch as a kid, heartbreaking movie for a 5 year old.
Loved the Turner and Hooch recipe they shoehorned into SCRUBS as a tribute too
Seeing the move before hand just makes her reactions even more priceless. One tom hanks junk and two houch getting shot / puppy at the end
Love this movie!! Thanks for this!
"Is this movie going to make me cry"
Seen this numerous times and still tear up
I LOVE this movie❣️ I’m so glad you liked and enjoyed it.
