I absolutely agree with the point about first servicing. It should be free. That said, if enough people were to force the issue the dealers would just build the cost of the servicing into the bike so the cost becomes hidden. Regarding the diy option... As long as you do the job properly using approved parts the warranty shouldn't be at risk. What worries me though is the lack of an official stamp in the service book and what that might do to the future resale value of the bike. Love the bike btw.
Here in the states a service can cost upwards of $300 or more depending on the bike . I never pay for service I do them myself . If u ride it pays to be able to wrench ur own machine ..
Pen15UK if ur using genuine parts n have the receipts to back it up you can absolutely do it yourself n maintain the warranty as long as u do what is required by the manufacturer..
I sorta agree my cheapo commuter GW 250 first service was quoted at about £250 I haggled it down to £190........... It's meant to be a budget commuter!! For some silly reason Suzuki wants the valves checked on the first 500 mile service.
I guess it depends. If you've been gushing over the bike, they know you'll buy anyway - that and the nineT is in short supply. I'm prepared to walk away and go elsewhere. Is there only one BMW dealer within striking distance of you?
Hey Can you make a video explaining the r nice t 's dashboard? Like how to tell "how many miles to empty" what each data means etc. I just bought on of the r nine t and its very confusing . I don't know when I am running out of gas or how many miles to and the manual is not helpful either. thanks I have 600 miles on my bike now and my dealership here in Atlanta is quoting $450 for the first maintenance. Sucks really bad! AND I agree first maintenance should be part of the bike's cost.
Kofi Ampofo Boadi That is grand theft, at my Dealer in Florida it is $285.... my second service was $249.00 both out the door.... Granted it is pricey compared to a Car, but you only have 2 wheels on a bike so SAFETY is Paramount.
It's not the way we ride in Croatia, if you're on a bike, specially on a nice new RnineT you ride with more grit and filter through that poor traffic..That is the benefit of a motorcycle ...And a BMW RnineT is a dram for me ..I still got to work extra to buy it, in my country to own a car or 2. And buy a BMW R nine T we got to work extra make more money you lucky sood.

Lovely bike. You ride safe, that's good to see, as everyone else is going through red lights and speeding most of the time. Subbed.

You need to get it done at the dealership to maintain the warranty.

Yeah my first service on the gw250 was really expensive too!
Completely forgot you had the same bike at one point lol
I never let the dealer touch my bike unless it's a warranty repair , buy a shop manual n do the work yourself . Nice bike by the way !
Davyboy Colon I always have done so with my cars but just now getting back into motorcycles.. which manual do you recommend?
you are right on this ,oil cost them max £35 labour charge is extreme.
Had to fork out £187 for the first service this morning and the next service is due in March!
So how many miles do you get to a tank ???
I think all servicing is a rip off at dealers, and the problem is if you buy new you have to get it serviced by them to honour the warranty.
If you're spending upwards of 10k on a bike, get them the throw in the first service as part of the deal.
Believe I tried. Have tried it with every bike I've bought but nobody prepared to do it.

+Andy Powell yes unfortunately
You're freaking me out... I only just typed that ;)
Ah, I do like Over Lane. I don't know why you're riding around Almondsbury & Bradley Stoke on such a nice day though!!!

No fuel gauge. Use the trip meter, and fill up around 150 or so.

Yeh companies can rip off because people don't stop buying
