He's completely right about singing. I think most people are actually afraid to allow that vulnerability come through, so it doesn't work out for them. It's completely an instrument and you can get close to mimicking it with your vocal cords.
Ofc i'm afraid, it's fckn hard and there's nothing worse than exposing yourself (and being bad at it). I'm a self-taught guitarist, I've felt embarassed while playing back when I was a beginner, but the big difference with singing is that there's no instrument to hide behind, when you sing it's just YOU so that makes it a bit more personal and difficult to start and progress IMO (a lot more if you're self-taught). That said, the only way is getting out there and at some point it will feel almost totally natural.
So yeah, just to be clear everyone, Serj did not have what happened to Bon Jovi happen to him. He is fully capable of graping his voice like he did back in the day. He _chooses not to_ because it freaking is uncomfortable. Instead he's singing "right" in the sense that he is effortlessly hitting notes without straining his voice. Yes, it doesn't sound as raw as back in the day, true. But that's his voice, not yours, and the older you get the harder it is to come back from vocal injuries. Ask Steven Tyler about it.
KROQ was always a little on the quirky side but this was much heavier than what they did. Although I remember hearing Holiday in Cambodia and Pil at the sane time they were playing BOINGO
Always unfortunate when a singer has such a distinctive style. It makes the bands distinctive sound but the vocal chords arent built for it long term. Happened with Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Meatloaf, Liam Gallagher, etc. Happened with people like Adele as well
Maybe even a vocal coach in metal screaming; yes there are ways to do that. I believe most people think that u just scream your head off and it’s not entirely true; there’s a way to prevent permanent damage. He probably didn’t know or have someone teach him. But regardless; he still has a beautiful voice to me; and I’ll never stop being a fan of him or SOAD. He has my support for life. He’s a kind hearted, and intelligent man, and a wonderful musician. And he writes beautiful and sometimes funny lyrics. I hope he never retires; same for the rest of his band mates.
Allright, I just went back and listened to Danni Filth, and I disagree. I agree with everything about exercising the vocal muscle, but I ain't never heard anybody who can do that shit...ever. Except Devin Townsend 😊
Just because he was sick is no excuse for putting down his voice and forgetting where he left it. If he put it in the same place each time then I'm sure he would be able to find it, instead of leaving it all over place....sheessh 😂

Saw them twice back in the day, second time I saw them, Serj had blown his voice. Darrin did a valiant job covering for him.
If I hear a guitar going WAWAWAWAWAWA I'll do that with my voice GNEGNEGNEGNEGNE
CRACRACRACRACRA
Love you guys. Greatest musicians. And good persons. With a big heat in heart listening this music.
Serj is so fucking awesome and funny i wish i could sit down with him and have a chat. such down to earth guy
a legend
This is why SOAD has some of the most fun and exciting vocal parts out of any rock band ever. I don't even listen to metal, but I love SOAD
I need one more album. please
I love you Serj
I steel love him
Still its still

Gotta give serj credit he isn't all about money. 90% of any other lead singer in his position would've went back to soad years ago just to make $
Love you.

KROQ in the 90s and early 2000s was so special
I LOVE SERJ ❤❤❤❤

I used to strain my vocal cords to when I was a altur deacon, the quire woman use to offer me a cough drop and it would help with the sore throat.
Where are these clips from?
A video of Serj on the internet. An interview.
Cough drops help strained vocal cords. Perhaps he needs a vocalist to teach him to sing softly.

Interesting.

They had to make another new band with another vocalist. Like Audioslave.
Gotta love a guy who doesnt take lessons saying not to do formal training after talking about how much hes blown his voice out lmao
Serj looks like my paternal grandmother
..another FUCKING DAY . LOL

what do you mean with this exactly?

"One of the reasons why I HATE Touring"....!??.. Why has there be HATE involved? :/
maybe because its really gruelling and its not for everyone ? a lot of musicians hate touring, but its part of the job at the end of the day.
Everything goes better WITH LOVE... accept the predicament of life My Good Serj.. ^^
Shows in his performance. He looks bored everytime.

If you want to see SOAD turn into consumerist slop, this is the way to go. SOAD is Serj, Daron, Shavo and John. Nothing more, nothing less.
