Damn, those tones are so good. And his technique is so damn clean, to play those kinds of runs so cleanly and fluidly with so little gain is a real challenge. I can only hope to be that clean one day.
He uses 10's tuned down a half step. Nothing extreme there. Also 90% of his tone is in his hands. He doesn't need any distortion to bring out his playing. You only hear a note if he wants you to ;)
This is a perfect example which shows that sometimes less is more. For me it's not important how many notes are played, but which notes are played. Great music.
WOW! The nuances in his playing and the way it can all be heard through the pickups and recorded masterfully. Everything just works together to sound AMAZING! Did I say WOW? WOW!
I'm amazed !!.. Not only by your ability to seamlessly float around the fret board, but also to be able to do that & not get your mane all tangled up on yourself & your axe while you do it lol. If it ever happens its going to be ug,,ly !.. We're going to need the jaws of life to get you out lol.. Hope you have a sense of humour. Thanks Nick. I'm glad I discovered you, your amazing. Cheers from Canada
awesome song, NJ's usual interesting / unusual melodies and harmony. these are really inspiring.. anyone know song title and which album? also, im guessing is starts in C# minor but what key is the chorus in?
Dude, just discovered you. You're like all my favourite players rolled into one unique and individual style. Keep it going. Hope you catch you in the UK. Any plans for working with a vocalist? Happy New Year bud.
I think many newer strat's lack in the mid range warmth. Sure I guess some people like the low and high output but I think it's far from my ideal strat tone.
Hey Keith, I love your videos and can definitely appreciate the hard work you put into this. But are you gonna go back to demoing equipment other than your endorsers? I feel your channel has become more of a giant Seymour Duncan commercial than anything. What about other cool stuff that came out recently? Peavey 6505 mini, Airis effects savage drive (I'm sure Rick would be more than happy to send you one to demo), etc! Anyway, just my two cents. Keep up the good quality videos man!!
because the feel, quality and craftmanship involved in a guitar are just as, if not more important, and he clearly prefers what he gets from Schecter. He used Fender for a long time, and changed, thats his personal preference.
Nick has it all. Taste, technique, musicality, phrasing, tone. Amazeballs.
"It's a weird relationship with a piece of wood."
Very true. It's crazy cool how wood and steel can mean so much to somebody. Instruments are love!
Damn, those tones are so good. And his technique is so damn clean, to play those kinds of runs so cleanly and fluidly with so little gain is a real challenge. I can only hope to be that clean one day.
Thanks for all of your hard work on these vids, buddy!
Nick Johnston Nice playing man and Keith, love the channel. Pop this channel on and guaranteed to pick up the guitar.
+Nick Johnston Man your playing is gorgeous, and the tone, Why haven't I heard of you before!!!! Any shows in the UK?
Nice overdrive with compressed but stil have sustain.. i like your guitar caracter
This is my favorite song of Nicks DEM FEELZZZ!!
Robert Baker Schecter baby!!
Robert Baker I almost can't handle the feelz.
metelidrummer so much feelz
+Robert Baker Goodness he's awesome!
I swear Nick has the lightest touch of any guitar player I've seen. And the phrasing! UGHHH
He uses 10's tuned down a half step. Nothing extreme there. Also 90% of his tone is in his hands. He doesn't need any distortion to bring out his playing. You only hear a note if he wants you to ;)
+James Russo A light touch allows for way smoother playing, and faster runs. It's the one thing most new players don't have that destroys their speed.
Eric Wheeler that's a good point. The heavier sounds can come from the right hand if needed!
There is also Rick Graham. Check him out.
Yogen Grg Yeah Rick is an another level as well. He's more of a classical style player
This guy is so fucking smooth it kills me. I love it.
This is a perfect example which shows that sometimes less is more. For me it's not important how many notes are played, but which notes are played. Great music.
Thank you so much for posting this stuff, Keith. I never would have found out about this guy otherwise.
Keith! Where are you? haven't seen you in anything for months...
WOW! The nuances in his playing and the way it can all be heard through the pickups and recorded masterfully. Everything just works together to sound AMAZING! Did I say WOW? WOW!
Wow. The tones, the melodies, the harmonies, the playing....wow.
I'd honestly give up shredding speed for the phrasing Nick has...but this demon has the ability to mix both together. Insane. Love this guy.
Wow this is Becker level of playing. Such a smooth tone. Has Nick ever attempted Serrana. Never heard anybody play that cleanly and smoothly.
Awesome as always. I could listen to Nick and Keith all day long.
I love this narrative. I can totally relate, ditched my Custom Ibanez ages ago for Schecter guitars, it totally has your back...! Great craftsmanship!
Everything about this is fantastic.
Fantastic stuff!
Real guitarist ! Thanks for this awesome video !
Schecter is upping their game, good choice having Nick as an endorser.
Woo! Awesome video. Never heard of Nick Johnston before but I'm really digging this song. Also Keith, your cinematography skills are top notch!
Great video. Great player. I just wish I was able to go somewhere and play one of these.
Great song , awesome playing.
gonna hire this guy to rake all the leaves in my yard this fall
I love the sound ! very nice, clean.
I'm amazed !!.. Not only by your ability to seamlessly float around the fret board, but also to be able to do that & not get your mane all tangled up on yourself & your axe while you do it lol. nick johnston is my new favorite music.
soo much feels in his hands.
Great video. My Producer uses a blur/green Schecter as His #1 axe.
Incredible, thank you!
Amazing. Great job!
This HAS to be his most emotional.
beautiful tones
Just amazing.
Hell yes double that thanks!
just amazing...
awesome song, NJ's usual interesting / unusual melodies and harmony. these are really inspiring.. anyone know song title and which album? also, im guessing is starts in C# minor but what key is the chorus in?
Hear a little Ty Tabor influence in the chorus. NICE!
+ssiever3 oh.........and DAMN!!
Great sound.
Very cool, man!!

Wonderful Madness
Incoming irrelevant critique here: I've often found that guitarists who use the sweeping blocked strings technique use it way too often!
Hey Keith. :D you've got less subscribers than me!
why was your facebook and youtube deleted? were they hacked?
Awesome
Cet artiste à une Grace particulière--!

Formidável!! 🎸👊🏼👍🏼
0:43 omg that few notes... goosebumps!
I wish he and Rick Graham would tour the US together... Just cuz :B
I think many newer strat's lack in the mid range warmth. Sure I guess some people like the low and high output but I think it's far from my ideal strat tone.
Anybody getting Mastodon vibes from this song? This track sounds a lot like the stuff off of the Crack the Skye album to me, I dig!
Oh my good lord that was good
Beautiful Nick Thanks Keith for posting….
Is something wrong with my internet or did Keith lose about 60,000 subscribers all of a sudden? He has 118 subs now!!!
I can totally agree with nick. I've played a coupe Custom Shop Schecters and they are far far better than the imports!
Just watching his picking you hand you can be entertained! He is filthy. 😷👏🏻
Hey Keith, I love your videos and can definitely appreciate the hard work you put into this. But are you gonna go back to demoing equipment other than your endorsers? Oh man... wow...
Am I the only one who gets aekerfeldt/opeth vibes from a bunch of his songs?
+Nathan Brown Opeth is not only one of his favorite bands, but one of his biggest inspirations.
+Anthony Nelson dude this song particularly is almost exact. down to the guitar and drum tones
Dear Nick Johnson. Please make your own channel.
CrAnKsTeR bmx Have you ever, you know, actually tried to look and see if he already has one? (hint: he does)
CrAnKsTeR bmx Nick has his own channel with tons of videos :)
Do Cheap 7 and 8-string guitars
All I hear is a lighter version of Opeth! Excellent phrasing though. What would be some of the scales he's using in this vid? I suck at theory :(
BigKyleTX yoo! he's in C minor, he does some c minor blues pentatonic and some melodic minor too. it gets pretty interesting with these two :)
Not crazy about the tone, but the playing was KILLER.
+thelukephone - Actually.. starting at 6:13, I changed my mind. wow.
I am pretty sure that if ***** had made him a better offer than Schecter Guitar Research Inc he would have chosen Fender.
Wellington Snozzberry I agree
I sec d that
Except Fender wouldn't make a guitar like that, hence Schecter. That's the entire reason he left. Schecter gave him what he wanted.
@@dadude7 why not? Fender custom shop builds as crazy as you want. As least is what they say...loving this schecter by the way.
what's the rig?
nick is PHAT
What string gauge does nick use?
thanks
mmmmm mmmmm good. juicy clean sweeps
can ask the pick up is???
Pickups?
Does anybody know the name of this song?
+Andres Nieto wonderful madness by nick johnston..awesome song

God, he's a tasty player.
Go to RUclips to watch CS GO vids to get pumped for CS GO. Watch Keith Merrow vid and practice for an hour instead.
Alguien sabe la afinación que utiliza..?
Jonatan Guzmán Eb
What is the name of this song?
Thanks
Мелодия классная )
a virtuose is born
Tasty
andy timmons....feels
omg
I think even more impressing than your playing is that this video has 6 dislikes
dang! his action is super low and yet no buzzing.
.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK ಠ_ಠ
if he likes the shape and the sound why not a fender? I would choose a schetcher because of its originality, not an imitation of other guitar
because the feel, quality and craftmanship involved in a guitar are just as, if not more important, and he clearly prefers what he gets from Schecter. He used Fender for a long time, and changed, thats his personal preference.
Because Shecter make one Custom Shop guitar for he, and pay more :D.
I cant like it,
