Extremely helpful and informative!!!!! It looks like all the modifications were made using a dremel and very easy too! Well done sir and I can't wait to convey mine over!
You can do all these modifications also with a simple knife. I'm glad, that my video can help a little bit! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!
This video has inspired me to finish off my rally conversion. I bought some some bumper body posts to prepare when Vaterra releases the '72 Camaro body to do a Max Max sort of car. I had a Vaterra '69 Camaro before, but the ridiculously low ride height meant I had to be choosy where to use it even though the pan had ample scaring after an hour of first use. Thanks for the detailed share and the conversion over to English.
I just did this conversion today and it is sweet. I'm in love. I'm using the stock touring wheels with foam ok traction but really need rally tires. I also have shocks from my old traxxas street sport, they extend to 70mm. Thanx for the vid i didn't know about the out drive cup trimming part.
Yes, I can totally recommend an internal body. I used a TT-01 raincover to keep the dirt out, but a cutted plastic bottle will also do the job. During shooting my winter rally video my raincover comes loose and I didn't had duct-tape with me to fix it. So all the snow comes in and finally blocked the steering. Thank you very much for watching!
Hello Keith! I'm using shocks from tamiya with item-no. 50519. You can build these shocks in different lengths (55, 64, 67 and 70mm). My shocks are about 60mm long. Thanks for watching!
You're welcome and thanks for subscribing to my channel! Yes, the friction shocks are a little bit stiffer then the CVA-Shocks with the same springs. Maybe put a drop of oil on the inside to smooth them out a little bit. If you don't want to compete with your rally car, maybe put some additional weight on it. I think that this should also help a little bit.
Hello Sean! No, the car in this video already have some tuning parts, because it was used for competition onroad racing. The following tuning-parts are installed in the car: - Aluminum drive-shaft - CVA-Dampers - Ball-bearings Everything else is still stock. Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Great Video I have a TT-01 and did a rally conversion myself but didn't know about the Diff hubs! Thanks for the Info I love your channel Keep up the great job!!!
TT01 is one of the best chassis to do conversions :D I have a tt01 with a full drift conversion, it was not really hard tho just need drift tires and lock the diff and that's all haha
your video showed up as a suggestion but the initial ground clearance was not 6mm. Your ruler has a blanc space in front (before 0). That counts too. So the initial ground clearance is at least 12mm :)
I'm using Tamiya CVA-Shocks. The Tamiya parts number is 50519 (you will need two sets). Try to buy them off ebay or maybe you have a hobby-store nearby.
I changed the shocks to Tamiya item no. 50519 and I changed the main driveshaft to the aluminium-version. That's all I upgraded on my TT-01. Thanks vor watching!
I don't know if I would use a TT-01 D for rally-driving, because it's more expensive then the standard-version. The friction shocks have the same length as the CVA-Versions, so I would give them a try!
Great conversion there. I'm making my Tamiya TT-02 into a rally car but I don't know what type or weight of shock oil I need. I have heard that it needs to be soft to Handel the bumps better that stiff oil. Can you help?
You're right, you will have a better performance with a softer setup on rough terrain. I'm using soft springs and a soft shock oil at the moment. But you can also try soft springs and a medium shock oil if you have problems with jumping. Thank you very much for watching and for leaving a comment.
You can use a simple hobby-knife. The parts to cut on the lower skidplates are made of very thin plastic. Also there should not be a problem at the differential hubs. Thanks for watching!
Hello ayske1! No, I haven't used it on an offroad track so far. Just bashing around in a sand pit. But I have used other tires on it. In my video "Early Morning Rally" I used onroad tires. They are ok, but nothing compared to rally blocks. Thanks for watching!
ok, thanks a lot, I've subbed to you, and I think you'll be a great help for me while starting out. :D Oh, one more thing, everyone says the friction shocks are too stiff, do you know if that's true?
TeamIngel: great video! a friend sent me the link and i like how you were able to achieve the rally setup :D i will for sure try this on at least 1 of a few TT01's i have :D
thanks so much for all your help, but i have so many more questions... XD Anyways, Do you think it would be fine to get the tt-01 drift version and modify that? Also , do you think the normal friction shocks from the tt-01 e is okay for rallying?
Emilio Esteves I'm guessing for my tt01 right now it's 24t:55t spur and pinion But you'll need a fan I am using a sport tuned motor and sometimes it just gets to hot
Hi, TeamIngel, It has been a loooong time since you were part of my inspiration to "rallify" my TT01 Plastic tub version, then my HSP/Exceed/Redcat "Driftstar" aka Flying Fish,[a mirrored clone of the HPI maverick Strada] and not a TT01 with Carbon Chassis. I sold my plastic tub TT01 because it was time to grow... i then had the HSP Flying Fish, which was 200mm(i have had problems sourcing a Rally based 200mm bodyshell) i then upgraded my Flying Fish with metal Arms and Carbon Fiber chassis i also have the 3racing upgraded TT01... Nostalgic! but do you think it is ok to cut out the same areas for increasing ride height?
I think that the XV-01 is more suitable for offroad driving, because this is what it was designed for. But it is also a lot more expensive. I never really had any problems with my TT-01 when driving it offroad, it's a very reliable chassis. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.
The chassis are basically the same. The only difference is an upper deck in the TT-01E. I have not tried many different rally tires, but I think the ones from Tamyia are ok but a little stiff. The tires from HPI are a little bit softer. There are big RC-Rallys held in the Czech Republik. As far as I know, they are all driving tires called "ARP Rally Block", which are looking like the ones from Tamiya but they are very much softer. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment, I really appreciate this.
TeamIngel because that is when i turned my tt-01 to rally style and it would of been much easier to just watch this than scouring all of the tamiya fourms hah also it might be good to say that you should get some large soft tires and a brushless motor combo 2
heelo. great video, but i have a problem with this conversion. I have done all the steps and it seems that my car is braked... the wheels rotate slower....how can be that possible??? :( my dumprs are 68 length
I cutted the driveshaft cups with a dremel, but you can also use a knife. There are already 65mm shocks installed in my TT-01, I forgot to mention this in the video. Thank you very much for watching and for leaving a comment!
ronnie tjikoeri yes Use the yeah racing oil filled shocks they are adjustable but when I use them they can't full extend down even with the skid plate off
+Antuan Perez For some reason I can't reply directly to your comment. So I'll try it this way. As far as I know, you don't need to do any modifications on the TT-02, because it is available in a rally version. But I'm not shure if you can build any kit in rally setup or if you need some extra parts. Maybe this thread on R/C-Tech is a little helpful: www.rctech.net/forum/electric-off-road/828544-tamiya-tt02-tt-02-rally-off-road-thread.html Thanks for watching!
Hello! I'm not completely sure about this, because I have no swaybar installed. I think you will be still able to mount it, but I don't know if it will work like before. Thanks for watching.
For the TT02 it should be a lot easier. As far as I can see, you don't have to cut anything, because the suspension-arms are not blocked by a skidplate like with the TT-01. But you will maybe need some longer shocks.
I found a Dremel cutoff wheel. But you can use an exacto knife and just score it over and over once you are most of the way through just cut with scissors and it will split on the cuts. Hope that helps.
hey TeamIngel, i really need help, i cut the skid plate like you did, but it makes no diffrence, im using stock shocks, do i need diffrent shocks like you have? someone please help
The stock "shocks" that come with the TT01 or the TT01E only allow the vehicle to be at the height that the uncut skid plates allowed. To make your car raise you need higher coil overs.
Well I did I made it into a buggy I made a diy buggy body and removed the skid plate made some diy protectors for the skid plates covers for the drive shaft and used a 55t either the pinion or the spur idk it was on 17:55 I guess the 55t I'm very sure about it but the 17t not so but well I guess I need to buy a fan lol I just don't have long wishbone suspension arms lel but works fine tho
hello everybody, I have a KYOSHO ALPHA 3 PURE TEN EP. I want to make it a rally car like the video, but it's not a tamiya tt-01. Can a person help me please?! Gr. Tom

Hello LEGO X! Yes, it will work. The car used in this video is a Type E version. Thanks for watching!
Very good instruction! Modification works perfect for extended travel!
Thank you very much! I'm glad that my video was able to help you a little bit!
I have never heard from this diff hub, but searched for it immediately. Really great, thank you very much for your advise!

TeamIngel I wonder if 62mm shocks would work? I'm planning on building a rally spec for myself
Thank you very much for watching and for your comment! I hope my english wasn't too hard to understand!
Hello Mac Turbo! I thank you for your nice comment and of course for watching!
Great Video I have a TT-01 and did a rally conversion myself but didn't know about the Diff hubs! Thanks for the Info I love your channel Keep up the great job!!!

Sweet Thanks Man
HighVoltsRC Thanks a lot! It's nice that my videos can help a little bit!
chang chu feng That's exactly what I did with my TT-01 and the result is a very decent drift car, which is easy to handle. Thanks for watching!
Yes it helped for sure! And awesome I have locked diffs so all I need is drift tires and I have a whole new car! Thanks guys!!!!
Wow, thank you very much! Your comment helps me a lot, because I was very worried about if my english is good enough for a tutorial video.
your video showed up as a suggestion but the initial ground clearance was not 6mm. Your ruler has a blanc space in front (before 0). That counts too. So the initial ground clearance is at least 12mm :)

Great tutorial! Many thanks.

Yes, it will work. You will also already have the better shocks. Thank you very much for watching and for your comment.
Excellent tutorial 👍👍👍

The stock and after height is way more than what you said because the botem of the ruller did not stat on zero
Very good tutorial!! now im ready to snow rally :D danke schön
Thank you very much and have fun with your rally car!
HI! Great video!
What's the lenght of the suspensions?
Nice clean work!!! Keep doin what you doin! Big upz
Thank you very much!
Ok, cool. Thanks for the response. And the video! Really informative, I've been looking for something like this for a while :) cheers.

keep up great work
What is high of those shocks?.
Have you used it for an off road track? Have you ever used anything other than the rally block tires?

awesome vid thanks for making it i was trying to find a vid for making mine more suitable for rally
You're welcome and thanks for watching! I'm glad that my video will help you a little bit.
thanks so much for all your help, but i have so many more questions... XD Anyways, Do you think it would be fine to get the tt-01 drift version and modify that? Also , do you think the normal friction shocks from the tt-01 e is okay for rallying?
Sounds great, so I will do some tests with heavier shock oil next time. Thank you!
where did you get them shocks i did all thisto my tamiya and im now limited by my shocks
What's is a good gear ratio for the tt01 as a rally car. Thanks for the tatorial on this car.
Emilio Esteves I'm guessing for my tt01 right now it's 24t:55t spur and pinion
But you'll need a fan I am using a sport tuned motor and sometimes it just gets to hot
nice job, great invention. thanks for sharing
Hi! No, your English is perfect!
Thanks again,
Steve
Very nice video. Thank you
What did you change to upgrade the tt01? Only shocks? Please reply thanks...
What shock dampers do you have on this setup and where did you get them from? Im trying to do the same to my car, good tutorial btw
Hello Ethen! I found some Tamiya TT-01s on ebay sweden with prices between 990 kr. and 1300 kr, (115 - 150 €). Thanks for watching!
so you use the cva shocks? and if you do, where do you get them?
really nice car!
That would be my next project
i would like to build a remake of the Ken block ford fiesta!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it!
Hi, TeamIngel,

i then upgraded my Flying Fish with metal Arms and Carbon Fiber chassis
i also have the 3racing upgraded TT01... Nostalgic!
but do you think it is ok to cut out the same areas for increasing ride height?
How does this compare to the performance of the XV-01 Chassis? Im trying to make a decision on what to buy
I think that the XV-01 is more suitable for offroad driving, because this is what it was designed for. But it is also a lot more expensive. I never really had any problems with my TT-01 when driving it offroad, it's a very reliable chassis. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment.
Yes, they work fine!
May I ask, what brand of shocks are you using for the setup?
is the tt-01 chassis same as tt-o1e chassis and if they are what are some good tires for making it a rally car
The chassis are basically the same. The only difference is an upper deck in the TT-01E. I have not tried many different rally tires, but I think the ones from Tamyia are ok but a little stiff. very good, would of been good if i had access to this like 2 years ago, haha
Thank you very much! Why you needed this video 2 years earlier?
TeamIngel because that is when i turned my tt-01 to rally style and it would of been much easier to just watch this than scouring all of the tamiya fourms hah
also it might be good to say that you should get some large soft tires and a brushless motor combo 2
really awesome!!!
I have given you a thumbs-up.
More tutorial videos. Best on the Tube. !!!
heelo. great video, but i have a problem with this conversion. I have done all the steps and it seems that my car is braked... the wheels rotate slower....how can be that possible??? :( my dumprs are 68 length
hii teamingle....what did you do with the steering arms to get the front so high
Will this work for a TT01D?
What type of knife u use?.Pls reply.TY
will it work with the TT-01 type E
How did you cut a driveshaft cups ? Have you tried a higher shocks dampers i will be going with a 65 mm.
I cutted the driveshaft cups with a dremel, but you can also use a knife. There are already 65mm shocks installed in my TT-01, I forgot to mention this in the video. Thank you very much for watching and for leaving a comment!
TeamIngel what knife?
Was this stock on the video?
is it possible to lower the car again without buying a new skidplate ?
ronnie tjikoeri yes
Use the yeah racing oil filled shocks they are adjustable but when I use them they can't full extend down even with the skid plate off
Danke für das Tutorial
oh what does this do to make the chassis rise necessarily
Cool thanks for the response.
+Antuan Perez For some reason I can't reply directly to your comment. So I'll try it this way. What dampers are you using?
+modwlego Tamiya CVA's with Yellow On-Road Touring Car Springs
hi if I do these mods would it still work with a sway bar
Hello! I'm not completely sure about this, because I have no swaybar installed. I think you will be still able to mount it, but I don't know if it will work like before. Thanks for watching.
TeamIngel ok thanks
Thank you very much! I really appreciate this!
will this work with the tto2 also?

TeamIngel ok thank you
TeamIngel to me tt01 is easier because you don't need to buy anything HAHA
You can just buy a yeah racing diff hub, as a kind advise.
what knife would you recommend serrated or any other types
I found a Dremel cutoff wheel. But you can use an exacto knife and just score it over and over once you are most of the way through just cut with scissors and it will split on the cuts. Hope that helps.
hey TeamIngel, i really need help, i cut the skid plate like you did, but it makes no diffrence, im using stock shocks, do i need diffrent shocks like you have? someone please help

The stock "shocks" that come with the TT01 or the TT01E only allow the vehicle to be at the height that the uncut skid plates allowed. To make your car raise you need higher coil overs.
modwlego can you suggest any shocks, mabye an ebay link? thanks
I'd love to recommend some, but I've recently done the modification myself and have no idea what brand to use myself.
how is the road holding on this rally car as the road holding on mine is s**t but mine is a ta02
Stock electric ?
Thanks for watching, leaving a comment and for your kind advise!
A penknife?
norm14?
What body do you have on thé tto1
This is a Suzuki SX4 WRC from Tamiya (with a short wheelbase of 251 mm). The Part Number is 51337. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much!
Wow, thank you very much!
Que pena ya no existe esa carrocería...😢
You're welcome!
Oh, yes, you are right, what a silly mistake! But at least you can see the difference between before and after! Thank you very much!
Plan Just take the skid plate off ?
+Daniel Wu Of course you can simply remove the skid plates, but you will loose the mounting points for the bumper. Thanks for watching!
+Daniel Wu Also the skidplates keep the gearboxes together at the bottom.
Thks!
I thank you for watching!
i Think it chost on ebay 120 $ ??
Cool i like thé body ans your vidéo really helps
Thanks a lot, I'm glad that my video helped a little bit.
Thumbs up!
Is TeamIngel a actual team or is it just the channel i live in the U.S. of A. so i wouldn't know
Yes, Team Ingel is a team of myself doing all the filming and editing and different "guest drivers" in my videos.
Brilliant video, helped a lot. One issue though, i'm english, and think you speak english better, and with more diction, than english people :|
Yes, a penknife should work.
hello everybody,
I have a KYOSHO ALPHA 3 PURE TEN EP. I want to make it a rally car like the video, but it's not a tamiya tt-01.
Can a person help me please?!
Gr. Tom
