Squire is making a baritone tele with P90s.
I'm looking into buying their fanned fret 8 string that's 330$ at the moment, would you recommend? Are their guitars pretty reliable? I'm not looking for like premium stuff cuz I'm wanting to just have fun at the moment with some fanned frets (and of course the extra string). I have a seven string at the moment but I've been wanting an 8 string.
It’s insane that Squier doesn’t just make more of their one. It’s like they hate money
They care more about their vintage image and are afraid of anything modern and good.
Fr they are just refusing money at this point
@@klap00 You would think their "contemporary" line would have a baritone offering.
@@TheMansionWorld They have a Baritone Tele., but they won't ship to America, so fuk it.
@@paradoxofepicurus guitar center carry’s baritone teles
This is sick! Glad harley benton has the balls to make those. I hope they make a left handed soon
You could buster odeholm it 😂
@@Johnbovii 😂😂😂 that is true hahahahahah
@@Johnbovii Hell yes 😂
SO GLAD YOU DID THIS GUITAR!!!!! THANK YOU FOR COVERING THIS!
Could you do an upgrade video on this guitar? Like pump it with a bit of cash to put in new tuners, pick-ups, etc. That'd be really interesting as this is a great mod-platform guitar.
Yeah wonder if you can do a straight swap on the pick ups or not
@@michaelgrindy6913 I wish someone could tell me how to swap the pickups from the hb st-20hh to emg81 and emg 84. I want to buy the guitar and upgrade it, but Iam a fucking pussy and Iam afraid of doing smth wrong. If anyone knows a construction, I would be very thankful
@@adriandunemann8246 the easiest way would to buy your pickups and go to a guitar store they can do it for you for not that much. If you are really not confident in doing it yourself ask for qualified help ^^
@UCnszHQFwlCVwyRyGiyweS7w is a bot DO NOT click on the link and report
@@adriandunemann8246 just take it to a guitar store.. I had BKP Silo's made and installed in one of my guitars (set up correctly, height and whatnot, restrung and intonated), $70 and he did a hell of a job (Berkeley stand up!!).
I had them disable the tone pot also because let's be honest, who tf needs it.
Jim Root always comes to mind when I think of Jazzmaster guitars.
J Mascis
I did my time and I want out
Thurston Moore
YES! Finally a Squier contender. Sounds awesome. Damn I missed getting one before they sold out, but will definitely grab one from the next batch.
You might want to check out SubZero guitars too. They have a Jazzmaster-esque baritone model. One is the color-flipped version of this: White body, black pickguard, maple fretboard with black block inlays. Or there's a sunburst version with tortoise pickguard, dark maple (thermally treated) fretboard and white blocks. Both have tune-o-matic bridges and humbuckers.
They are fairly cheap as well, and the stock hardware and pickups are decent enough to hold out until you figure out if you'll swap it for something higher end.
@@PikkaBird a solid jazz master style baritone as well, but slightly less comparable to the squire version due to not having p90 style pick ups
Loathe is SO fucking good. This guitar is a great price point for a person trying to get into low tunings. The Jackson JS-22 is my first 7 String, absolutely loving it and it was less than 200 dollars on sale on Sweetwater. I love that the quality of instruments is standardized nowadays, and we're starting to realize pick ups and playing matter most.
Affordable? Yes. Available? Yes, in 15 weeks bruh.
I've ordered an Ibanez 2 month ago and it's still not here
surely you have other guitars to play until then
At least there's a timeline vs no timeline.
Yeah he said right at the beginning they're sold out
It’s gonna sell out way toooooo fast
I wonder how similar it would sound if you replaced the stock pickups with the Jazzmaster pickup set and then replaced the tuning pegs with better ones. I feel it would probably sound exactly the same as the fender baritone but for like a fraction of the price
So glad they were on the website the day before they announced them, snagged one before they sold out 😎
Thanks for this. I have 8 HB's. However, I think you are missing another layer of pickguard plastic as they always come with two layers of protection.
I have a harley benton guitar myself, it was around $200 and I can say it is an awesome guitar for the price point. It definitely feels like it should be at least a couple hundred bucks more expensive.
Just bought tbh. Always wanted a JM style baritone and this is in my price range. Tuners can be upgraded as long as it sounds good.
When you do the demo video, you obviously have to play some Loathe on it! Looking forward to your verdict, im in the business of getting one of these but will hold off until you make your video! Appreciate the vids as always!!
Watching this video made me buy this guitar almost instantly. I've been wanting a Baritone for a while and this is a good starter to see if I will even like them. Can even mod it with better tuning pegs and pickups. I can't wait till it shows up in a couple months!
How was it mate? Good points/bad points? About to pull the trigger and order it (with some locking tuners).
@@JW-zj8wn definitely get it. The neck is pretty good, I did have to shave down 1 or 2 frets but other than that it was a clean neck. Paint job is good, might need some action fixing tuning but other than that it's pretty solid guitar. The tuning pegs do sick, I find myself constantly tuning the guitar when I do play it. It's also slightly different than a regular guitar so it takes some time getting used to. Can't just play any song on the guitar.
One thing i found as well is it's really hard to dial in a good tone. You need a lot of gain to get a good tone out of it.
Yes! Love the Whitechapel riff at 5:05
What song? Or are you just joking cause it sounds like the saw is the saw?
@@iamdecentatguitar1091 No I'm not joking, the song is called I, Dementia. This song is off their self-titled record!
@@haydenhoffman3008 ohhhh! Thanks
@@haydenhoffman3008 I’ve listened to all of their songs just didn’t remember this one. And u am seeing them in December, so ready!
Hi! Just received my new JA Baritone, but even with a small amount of distortion in the amp I can hear a lot of noise/hum/buzz coming from the speaker. The Only way to turn down considerebly this noise is to close all the way up the tone or use both pickups at the same time (I think emulating an Humbucker?). Said this, it's this normal? I've read and watch a lot of reviews and no one had complained about this kind of issue.
Good thinking really making sure the audience knows you do still work with them. Thats solid transparency and thats why your reviews are great!
Also do the channels get to decide where in the video the ads are going to be? Ads are always perfectly timed right before the demo rather than in the middle of it so was wondering if thats intentional or youtube just being a scary good AI
Thanks! You do have the option to place ads manually but the YT AI is just super good at doing it automatically so I leave it to the robots
@@BaenaCarcosa lmao how does it know bro HOW
Squire hates money, OBVI..🙄
Good on HB for tapping into that market. I’d be interested to hear an A-B comparison between the Squier and HB jazz masters with as much of the same hardware as possible.
This looks so clean. Is the playability better or worse than other ones you have played before?
I think it's quite the same because the scale lenght is the same as the Squier Jazzmaster Baritone
@@steffomca762 I thought the HB was 27" and the Squier is 30"
I've got the Harley Benton Guitarbass. Such a beautiful Instrument I must say.
This is gonna be my graduation present to
Myself when I finish truck driving school
"and you'll find out in just two seconds...🤔"
Immediately regrets saying that 😂
Definitely on my list to buy in the next production run!
I intend to buy one of these in the future, but of course, upgrade the tuners and change the bridge pickup
Getting mine tomorrow! Was in stock all of a sudden last Thursday, so I immediately jumped on it! So stoked 😊
How is it ?
I love your unboxing and demo videos! Such great content 🙌
Yeahhh. I wanted to get one too so I’m glad you did this one
Cool video. Would be interested to see the video comparing this to the Squier.
I ordered a Harley Benton guitar with a gold Floyd Rose for £141 on Thomann. Actually cannot wait to get playing it
“One of my favourite bands of all time, right now”
Hey brother ! Nice to meet you! Cheers from Ontario !
Omg, what a riff to start with!
I'm glad I went ahead and got one before they all sold out. Def my new favorite guitar
Very cool guitar. I just get some high pitch sound from the pickups? Any thoughts or recommendations? Solid replacements for the pickups?
Can't wait for the demo video. This guitar looks and sounds awesome. Very tempted to buy it.
Love my Harleys I’m still waiting for a headless with a floating trem.
That’s a very cool axe.
I gotta Sc custom FR and HP42 signature the Sc needed a bit of fret work and full setup to suit me but the HP42 showed up perfectly set up. 🤘🏽
The Sub Zero Baritone is also a really good alternative.
Agreed. I actually ended up selling my Squire (you know the one) in favor of that one JUST before the demand kicked up and it ended up being worth over a grand. What finish did you end up getting?
Right there with ya. I got my sub zero bass vi from them. It's such a fun guitar to play.
I bought this one the day it came out. Came in the mail last Saturday. For me, the obly issue I have with it out of the box is that the frets need a polish, string bends feel like sandpaper
Ngl I was really surprised by the quality and tone, do you think you would ever review some of their other stuff? I’ve been thinking about getting one of their 8-string models
I have 3 more in my house right now, you will see them soon!
@@BaenaCarcosa looking forward to seeing them!
I have the budget fan-fret 8 in the white finish, and it's a beautiful guitar. It plays pretty nice, as well, though it would benefit from better pickups, a lot.
@@AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic yeah all of the reviews I’ve read say that too, but nothing you can’t swap out.
@@leechick exactly. For the price, you kinda can't beat it. Even with swapped pickups, you're still going to be at less money than the majority of other 8 strings. I want to put Dimarzio pickups in mine, at some point
I got this yesterday an my god the pups are amazing...
Man thank you so much for the video, I was so curios about that guitar!
Sounds like, with some upgrades, this would be a decent guitar. Probably gonna get one :)
The first band I listened to that uses baritones is STARSET and I've wanted one ever since. So glad companies are starting to step up
wow , i just needed some info for this guitar on youtube, and stumbled upon your video. I remember seeing you with the Galactic Pegasus? in Vancouver around 2013 at Tom Lee's. ;D Hello from Moscow,Russia.
9/10 review. Didn't moan during asmr peeling. Thanks so much for this review andrew. Was hoping you'd do this! Are the tuners in definite need of replacement? As in are they sloppy/jumpy feeling?
You should also compare it to the subzero baritone, battle of the affordable baritones vid
Cool to see that you try a Harley Benton dear Andrew =) , yes there is two layers of pickguard plastics =D, I thank you so much Andrew i did not know about this baritoneJA one,..but now i will wait until they are in Stock again, Thanks love cheers =)💚🎸🤘
This is just the video I was wanting for this guitar
I need this guitar in my life!
I’m getting mine as soon as they’re available
Hi, great video. I have a question. I own a HB JA-60 with P90 pickups disguised in JM style pickups. I have a tremendous hum on high gain tones. Did you and if so, how do you deal with it?
Up: I removed the scratch plate and guess what? No shielding. At all.
@@gonzorudeboy i have the same guitar! Did you shield it? I was thinking to do the same cause is kinda annoying also during finger picking using clean tones
I got mine, love it. So glad I bought it when I did
Being in Australia trying to get one is next to impossible, in saying that it doesn't do anything for me. Could be a really cool project though for someone to upgrade with better hardware and even pickups
That I, Dementia riff sounded so good
Dude, are you using an impulse response for that tone? Or is that just the raw Archetype Gojira?
I JUST GOT THE KENNY HICKEY SCHECTER DIAMOND SERIES GUITAR. I SEE U HAVE IT TOO,, DO U HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY WERE MADE? THX BROTHER
Dude, I love this axe! Is it true bypass? Legal in most countries? Gig bag friendly? Asking for a friend
Want one when they come back in stock, i love jazzmasters. One thing I have a question about; you think the pickguard would be replaceable using a squier sized one? Would love either a white or tortoise shell colored one routed for humbuckers or possibly a different set of p90s
I don’t think so since the body shapes are different
@@BaenaCarcosa sad :( luckily i actually found a slightly different baritone jazzmaster by a different company and it checks a lot of my boxes off so gonna go for that instead :) (SubZero Rogue VI)
Favorite bands of all time…. Right now.
I didn't have the money back then. Im still sad about missing out on the squier.
My only complaint is the regular pushing back of my order. Many weeks have past still no guitar. But when it comes I'm very excited. I'm mean 310 buks is hard to complain about.
Would you be able to do a proper comparison video between this and the Squier?
Yep that’s what I said I was gonna do in this video! That will come at some point in the next few weeks
@@BaenaCarcosa Oh word I didn't catch that thanks!
Took me about 6 months to get my LTD M-1007 Deluxe a couple years ago.. That waiting room is hell.
You should do a back to back and then kit this out with the best mods
Would be interesting to hear a back to back with the squire!
Harley Benton is taking over!
Do a pickup swap maybe a bare knuckle of some kind. kinda be cool to see a cheap guitar have a lot of upgrades
You should recreate the Djent breakdown generator video you made years ago with AI this time. might be dope
Can you please ask them if they can make a lefty one? Us left handed people want one too 😢
When you say plastic tuning pegs are you saying that the entire assembly, including the post the string goes through is plastic, or that the buttons are plastic?
If you need to buy aftermarket tuners that dramatically lowers my interest as compared to other options, such as the Aria Pro II or Sub Zero offerings in that price range.
I'd even take the Burns SSJ or the Bass VI with their ridiculous bridge over that.
Hi can I put thicker strings on a Harley Benton JA and tune as a Fender Bass VI?
Would you rate this higher than the gretsch baritone?
i really want one and watching this video confirmed my intent to buy. I'd deff be replacing the hardware with hipshot stuff and other higher quality parts for whatever else on the guitar is cheaper.
I just pre-ordered it. Mine won't ship till January. The wait is killing me 😫😫
can you please try the Harley Benton ST20HH? Its a pretty cheap Jim Root Strat Copy.
No it isnt
@@Ottophil well... Kind of
I ordered the fretless bass from them yesterday and its coming tomorrow I live across the ocean from Thomann ha
those are vintage style tuners. they’re supposed to be plastic. white plastic to be exact, but in this case they are clearly painted for the looks
Can someone tell me the best strings to buy for this guitar?? Just ordered mine. Not sure how low I wanna go yet but need some advice on this :)
I was expecting to swap the pickups. still might but they are definitely useable
aaaaaaand it's on backorder. The pain never ends.
do you think this could be set up and sound good in something like double drop c#?
Did you even decide to switch out the plastic tuners ?
had the squier. could not get rid of it fast enough,
I just picked this jewel up today local in Toronto used but in box so practically new. It's pretty nasty lol 💪🏻💪🏻
I'd definitely watch an ABY vs the squire
About to cop me one
Cool sounds
what I'd get to have any of the equipment I got a nine string no pedals and a practice amp for beginners
Cool looking guitar!
That looks really nice
My guys and I always tuned down squiers, because it sounded so crunchy, imperfect, and with distortion it sounded like an early slipknot album. And they were the really cheap ones. I wonder if there is any science behind that...
I hope it has a left handed version
1:27 fr tho, a great snack
P90's truly sound great tuned low.
Is this tone present available to download?
First baritone i saw has to be Mike from Staind. I ended up getting a Solar Baritone. Light as and sounds mean as hell.
This guitar is pretty cool, there's a weird thumpy sound when you're picking hard, though.
My guitar had double plastic the machine propley just stalled a second wrapped twice
This guitar has no right to sound this good! I might just order one haha.
I have HB Amarok-6 and it's a sick guitar especially for it's price and those specs. Only thing I'd like is slimmer neck, but yeah it's great overall.
Would be amazing to see X shape like Xiphos/Warrior/Tartarus with same specs!
I have a baritone version of that guitar and yes the neck feels like a baseball bat.
