This story is a bit too hand pat for me. A mortuary attendant who was nervous and had lost the death certificate, a wife who refused to let anyone see the dead husband as he lay in the coffin cause of death unknown, and a friend cop who took her word for it that it was her husband in the coffin without making a thourough investigation ?. If you are going to make up fairy tales, at least make them believable.

Back in the olden days that’s what they did. I know in my family. My cousin had a couple of kids at wedlock and gave them away so she had four children and it kept one. At my mother and father adopted their first child out because they weren’t married. How did the story?
