Our problem is more also a collective Laker shooting problem.🤔 We need our backcourt to come out gunning; Reaves, Dlo, and Vincent. Throw in Hachimura and hopefully Woods consistently stretching the floor. This will put vando back in his natural dunkers spot in Ham's offense.
The short answer is he doesn’t have a reliable 3 point shooter. The good thing is he’s 23 years old and every single year he’s been improving and has gotten to 33% for the 2023 nba season. It’s all about growth and if he takes another level it’s going to be insane for the lakers and I truly expect it since he’s on a pay year.
Nah he also is terrible with scoring from mismatches. Curry guarding him is egregious. And the aspects he's good at (PnR finishing) they habe other players that are still better at it than him and hes taking possessions from them like AD. Thats all in the vid. The 3pt shot is part of it but being able to have your PG guard Vando on offense and getting away with it is a big problem. That lowkey might be a bigger problem than his 3.
@@YeYe-ni7qy His ideal role is a 3 and D role. You're right, but what I listed as his flaws are not complicated offensive skills and they have nothing to do with playmaking, shot creation, and ball handling. The fact that Steph Curry can guard him in the corner in the Warriors series and that isn't taken advantage of is embarrassing. Being able to back down and score on a 6'3 guard is a must for any big man in the league. The fact he isn't reliably doing that is wild. Not to mention on top of that his 3 shot is trash. So they can still put not only their worst defender on him if they wanted, but even if their worst defender is a 6'3 guard that is half his size. You're a negative at that point idc how good you are defensively.
@@YeYe-ni7qy Vando is 7 inches taller than Curry and 30 lbs heavier and you're trying to tell me he can't put his ass in the post and shoot it over him... Horse shit bro. Not here for the excuses and that is unacceptable. You don't need much ball handling skills when you're that much more physically imposing. Catch and shoot 3s are important for him to learn, but Vando should never let Curry guard him that is genuinely pathetic. Also Curry cannot hold his own against wings, he can guard the 1 and maybe some 2s and thats it.
Also "not built for post play at his height and length" he's 6'9 with a 7'1 wingspan he has the tools to do that and especially to do it over a 6'2 guard...
@@InsiteVFX why does it matter tho ? As long as he can shoot , and can force a player to guard him at all times is enough for now honestly. I genuinely think he is one for the best players defensively in the league. He always goes against that other teams best player and reduces their efficiency
Great breakdown. Jarred is going to be vital in the regular season and certain playoff match ups, hopefully he has made significant adjustments to his shot so he can at least hit the corner 3 this season. Funnily Jarred is one of those players that people seem to think ‘can shoot’ when he has been historically terrible.
I can see him as a piece to move with DLO combined 21 mill. I say that cuz the other wings Bron Rui TP Max and Cam can all play both sides off the court and aren’t a liability on offense. Even if Vando is a great defender its easy for him to get exploited along with DLO. If he improves a lil that will make him easier to move for a good piece. Cuz i don’t see him being much better unfortunately.
It’s interesting how in the same reasoning you used for him being a liability on offense you did not acknowledge the reasoning he was able to even be in the actions and have so much help on defense. The same reason the warriors were able to play so much help defense off Vanderbilt is the same reason Vanderbilt was able to chase around Steph and face guard so much because draymond gets treated the same way and obviously looney isn’t a perimeter threat so if Steph has the ball as you saw in multiple plays that were shown at least 3 people are paying attention to him at all times the fact that he was able to get buckets whilst playing like this while also being way shorter than most is insane and only attests to his greatness tbh
Preventing two points and creating two points is the same thing. One is not more valuable. Two points is two points. Although offense always has the advantage because great offense beats great defense. Regardless, net impact is all that matters because offense and defense are interconnected. Winning 104-100 isn't 'better' than winning 124-120. And the context makes a huge difference for every player. LA's personnel exacerbates his offensive issues and they don't really NEED him on defense because they have AD. Whereas in Minnesota KAT's spacing alleviated a lot of the burden of his offense and they NEEDED his length and quickness on the backend and his point-of-attack defense to cover for KAT on defense. (Really him and McDaniels together). Value/impact is always contextual. I love Vanderbilt. I loved him in the draft. But his finishing and timidity around the basket is a major issue on this particular roster. At least in the playoffs. Regular season he's awesome and can help carry them on defense, especially against bad teams, when AD is only playing at 80%. And D'Lo is his mirror image on offense. But in May, Prince will jump both in the rotation
I believe in Jared Vanderbilt do not give up on this man he has to much ❤️ and every good team has a good hard work heart beat . Give him time. And Mr Vanderbilt if for what ever reason !you never get any better offensively. I still believe in you. U have earned my respect sir 🙏 good luck vando

Yes, Vando is limited on offense. I believe with the right coach though, he can be "hidden" on offense. I think Vando becoming unplayable demonstrates how great of a coach Kerr is - he regularly plays two non-shooters well thanks to utilizing them in constant off ball screens. As an example, at 5:29, with Kerr as coach, Vando could fake a 45 cut into screening Klay and creating a more open 3 for DLo. This offball screening punishes sagging off non-shooters, increasing the attention defenses pay attention to non-shooters and therefore opening up space. Just my thoughts
Hold up what makes u think Schroder is a shooter he can’t shoot well either especially off the catch he can create offense but he was a questionable fit too given how he wasn’t a good passer either.
Smh ...this shows me how bad the coaching is...using him in more.pick in roll sets as a roller while running picks and set off those pick and rolls ...to be able to keep him off the bench using his defense...and adding some type of value to him on offense...Clint capella has made a career off this role
He was unplayable at times in the playoffs because of his shooting. He just needs to be able to hit open shots. If he can’t do that then everyone else is playing 4 VS 5 on that end of the floor
I can see and DLO getting moved given there playoff viability. The other wings the Lakers got can play both sides. Vandos a great defender but Rui’s growth then u got Max Cam Prince not to mention Bron those r guys who can play both sides. Vando is easy to hunt and if he can’t grow on offense or even finish at the rim he becomes a determine on offense basically 4 on 5.
We have to see how Rui looks next season he played great in the playoffs and shot great at 50% from 3 but only shot 29% from 3 in the regular season same issue with Gabe we’ll have to see if their shooting Carries over to the regular season
And cam can’t consistently play both sides of the court atleast not as of rn he’s a lockdown defender when he tries but that’s barely ever and he shot like 32% from 3 last season
