The problem is that you are using logic and reason to analyze what will happen in the real world given the limited number of possible outcomes. But the people advocating for and implementing these policies do not believe in a world of finite possibilities. They genuinely believe their fantastical ideals will come to pass simply because they wish it to be so. You may attempt to use the 3 possibilities of weight loss as an analogy to demonstrate this principle, but one of these body positivity activists would simply insist that those are not the only 3 outcomes or that certain factors contribute more or less to one outcome than another. There is simply no foundational basis for logic that they will accept.

I teach at uni and the uni constantly push supposed 'progressive' ideology where I have to keep saying NO to the 'free LGBT+ class training' due to the basic time limitations of just getting through the ACTUAL and existing primary curriculum AND the simple fact that all my students are overseas students from asia who just think it's all a bit odd (and at odds with their own culture) while also unnecessary, especially with regards to real value and the huge fees they already pay.
