Great tribute. Rickey Henderson was the greatest leadoff hitter to ever play the game, and he was a colorful personality. Definitely one of a kind. He was well traveled at the end of his career, with stints in San Diego, LA, Anaheim, Boston, NY (Mets) and probably others). Rickey holds the records for runs scored in a career, career stolen bases and the single season stolen base record. It's highly doubtful his stolen base records will ever be broken. He died at the too young age of 65, days before his 66th birthday.
Sad to hear about Rickey. Baseball card Magazine had some great cards. Great tribute to Rickey. Cool to see that box bottom with the Tiger logo. That 85 magazine is quite cool as well.
Was devastated when I heard this. Way too young. Seemed so healthy. Greatest lead-off man ever. Awesome vid, Keith, and a great tribute to the man in cards and story. Well done my friend 🤛🏻
One of the first baseball games I went to was the Orioles Vs. Oakland Athletics. Rickey Henderson hit a home run off the foul pole, that is all I really remember about the game, but I am glad it is. Life just isn't fair. A week from his 66th birthday. You make so many salient points. Most of us consider Rickey, just the greatest lead off hitter, but really he's just one of the all-time great players. Period. I read a stat earlier. That if a player stole 60 bases, for 20 straight seasons, Henderson would still be the stolen bases leader. 1/1.
Hi Keith. Really great tribute video for a true superstar. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, stories and cards. Wishing you and the family a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays my friend. Talk soon pal.
i would have called him a great Oakland A before a Yankee, but to each their own .....R.I.P.......Forgot to mention that he also lover himself and was never shy in front of the camera to remind everyone of his greatness....lol .....not too many characters around quite like him these days
Best lead off hitter, by far; arguably the best ever, regardless of position. What the stats don't show, but it is obvious, is that he was by far also the one with the most positive effect on teammates.
Great tribute. I am glad you got to see Rickey Henderson at National for last time. I am not a big baseball fan anymore. But I am happy to say I was a huge fan during the Rickey Henderson era 1979 to 2003. There was no one like Rickey Henderson. His enthusiasm for not just baseball but for life was amazing and infectious. I had one of those Rickey Henderson pins. Was always happy to pull a Rickey Henderson card from a gum pack bought at Ben Franklin five and dime as a kid in 80s. Forget Ripken Jr. Rickey Henderson was better and more fun to root for or against than anyone who started in late 70s and played forever. Great tribute. Fantastic cards. I thought rickey would definitely live into his 100s. Still shocked. RIP to the legend.
@@W238thStreet Yeah, I just commented on the 86 Rickey day before he died.
@LonelyBasementBaseballCards yes you did! Also, your Rickey story was classic. Great moment.
Really great tribute. He was one of a kind. Loved that story about you sitting behind home plate.

@@ACD1994 All time runs leader, can’t beat that. Great you saw a Rickey homer. One of baseball’s most interesting characters too.
Great words about Rickey

I saw him on the eBay stage at the National as well and I agree he looked to be in perfect health. Great Rickey story.
