There was an old fisherman and lifeboatman that looked after the Roundhouse back in the 70s early 80s who would get quite agitated at the mention of the decline of the pilchard fishing here and frightened the visitors . Not my favourite pub in the area , but enjoyed the First and Last up in Sennen for its extensive chocolate collection , good beer and live music . Chocolate and beer a wonderful combination . The cables are still carrying signals and have been uncovered many times after storms . There are many fake cottages in the area from Sennen South to Lamorna that are the termini stations for the various international cables . If you spot one of these places (and they are quite hard to find for obvious reasons as these cables link the US to Europe , Africa and India) , you can often find the details of the operating nation on the inspection covers on the side of the lanes .
Love the way Andrew flips his feet and shakes a leg when he has got wet feet, it looks as though he has had an accident :)) Sennen Cove is just a wonderful with lots of memories over the years; I was on the beach back in 1977 listening to my radio when they announced that Elvis had died. Over the years I have been back many times for walks up and down the SWCP, enjoyed a bit of storm watching and generally just chilling.
So good to be back and seeing your videos again! The stories of England are so amazing… the centuries back thank you Sarah and Andrew for sharing beautiful Land’s End … 😊Ana💐
I only found your chanell a short while ago and I am very much enjoying your video's. I think it was in 1982 I was staying in Karn Key's the old black fishing cottage at the back of the beach. At the endof our stay the weather turned overcast and my friend and I took a walk on the beach for a break from hauling our luggage up the hill to the car. The Lifeboat was a little offshore with a crowd of people on the aft deck. All of a sudden there was a small hole in the low cloud and a shaft of sunlight broke through and produced an effect on the sea like a spotlight. The spot of light moved over the sea and seemed to linger at the back of the Lifeboat. Then it moved off quite fast towards the horizon and was lost to view. We looked at each other and agreed that what we had just seen was a little strange. Anyway later on we went for a last drink in the old success, and mentioned at the bar the odd thing we had seen, a hush fell in the bar and someone to the side said what did you think you had seen? Because today we took the ashes of an old lifeboatman out in the bay and scattered them off the back of the lifeboat. I still get a chill when I think of that story, and I swear that that is a true story, I would not make light of such a thing.
An awesome vid guys full of information and fun , Andrew it pays to have some thongs / flip flops lol. We are off to Cornwall tomorrow Trevaunance cove , cannot wait,,,,,,,Brian&Jane.
A nice video of you having breakfast that can only be a nice day. It's just nice how you research the old books and tell the stories in pictures. Thank you for the great video, how is your puppy it would be great to see something on your channel too. Best regards, Gunter
Ahhhh, the lovely Tinker Tailor Cottage. Have been fortunate enough to stay there and Sennen is absolutely beautiful plus there is the wonderful RNLI Station, that we should all support for the immense work that they do.
Another great video from you both. Visit Sennen whenever we are in Cornwall. Stayed at Sea View Caravan Park many years ago when our children were little. Ran from caravan park to, and through, Sennen. Fantastic. Also discovered Porthcurno whilst running. So beautiful.
We’ve been visiting Sennen for over 50 years…..and, after living up a Spanish mountain for the last 20 years, are returning to live there to our house in Maria’s Lane in January. A good spot for our final move I think! 👍🍷
😂...loved the outtakes. This is definitely one of my happy places... between here and St Just 👌💞. Great to hear more about the history of the area as usual 👍✊💝😘
I adore your Cornish beach walks! In the 1870s, women of means wore dresses with bustles at the back, and their hair in 'topknots', so the Irish Lady has the bun at the top, her head below, and the Victorian bustle dress fanning out at the back. (I made one of these dresses when I was a bridesmaid in my friend's Victorian-style Christmas wedding, so the image hit me right away.) The smuggling stories are always great, and this one sounded just like something from Poldark, down to the Cornish jury acquitting on smuggling charges. Whenever one of my cats steps in water, they do just what Andrew did...eww, my feets R wet! :( It can be a little shock to hear the name of a place that's half way around the world, yet the same as one where you live. I recall my English cousin writing that he'd gone surfing in Cardiff, and it took me a minute to realize he meant in Wales. Cardiff-by-the Sea is a popular surf location here in S. CA! :)
Aw yes visited many times. Lovely to see it on here. We often have the fish and chips from the front chippy or have been in the pub. Like looking around the round house though hardly ever buy anything. There used to be more shops a few years ago. Thanks for the dose of Cornwall
Thank you Sarah and Andrew. Just love Sennen. We visit there every year when we go to Cornwall. My cousin had her wedding reception at "The Old Success" the first time in a long time when all of our Cornish relatives were together. We had a wonderful day and in the evening, just at dusk, some of us walked down to the Lifeboat Station and back. Very happy memories. ❤️
Fantastic walk with stunning scenery, amazing ocean sounds and fascinating history! Absolutely made my day 😊You've brought back some wonderful recollections ~ several years ago I was in Sennen, and witnessed the biggest & brightest most intensely coloured double-rainbow I'd ever seen over that bay.
Aww you guys are amazing! We're on holiday in Praa Sands (from Bude) and discovered your awesome vids whilst researching the areas... Turns out I was at Sennen Cove on the same day as you shot this! I was there in the afternoon in top car park attempting to launch my hang glider... The wind was not in the right direction however so I had to come back yesterday (25.09.22) where I managed to get in a nice hour flight over the cliffs... Have you been to Prussia Cove? It's a truly special place and you guys would do an amazing walk about video of that - it's steeped in smuggling tales and the place has hardly changed since 300 years ago seemingly... magical spot -
Hi Sarah and Andrew. Today, my wife Tracey and I are in Looe! In fact, we'll be in Cornwall until Saturday Oct 1st. We've brought out maps and walking route books, plus our walking boots and we'll be re-watching some of your East Cornwall vlogs and maybe trying one or two of them like we recently did. Me might not go as far as Sennen Cove, but at least we won't get our shoes and feet wet, Andrew hahaha. Anyway, our Cornish adventure begins... Regard, 'Devon Tony' and Tracey :-)
I spent part of my honeymoon at The Old Success back in 1980. A friend of mine had a place in Maria's Lane. His name was Jack Nash he owned the house that Jack built on Plymouth Barbican. He was a great friend and supporter of Robert Lenkiewicz the Plymouth artist.
Another Interesting Gem, I’m sure I have visited Sennen Cove donkey’s years ago, don’t remember the Irish Lady Rock! Looking at it it does capture the imagination and would look very spooky in the mist 🌫 the first thing I saw was a penguin sitting on the top! heartbreaking 💔 story about the young woman loosing her lover 😢 fabulous scenery and the sound of the emerald green surf coming in is captivating even though Andrew got soggy shoes! one thing I do remember is the cables leading into the sea from a building near to the beach, not sure if it’s still there! I’m looking forward to meeting ‘Truffle’ again when he is allowed out, what adventures are in store for him and his mate! Andrew lost for words ‘Never’ 😂🤣😂 thanks again both of you 🙏 lovely commentary Sarah 🤗
Oh, you left Mr. Scrumptious behind today! 🐕 But managed to get a surprise visit from another doggy along the way! It's not a walk on the beach unless you get soggy shoes though, or sand in them at least 👞👞 👟👟 Long time since we went to Sennen but vague memories of long hot days on the beach there when the girls were little. Great commentary from both of you with the history books...and giggled at the Outtakes! 🙂Shades of Poldark smuggling in every part of Cornwall. Mr. Poldark himself is currently playing a rather different part in The Suspect on ITV!! Just wait til Mr. Scrumptious part 1 and 2 can play together on beaches like this one. Hope you are both enjoying his company! x J x
Went to Sennen many years ago with family and I seem to remember that the round house was used as an art/photography gallery. Is that still the case? Loving the bloopers, does this mean a christmas special ?😄
I noticed you didn't mention Overhillers and Underhillers. How people referred to each other dependant on if they lived at the top of the hill or the bottom of the hill. Residents of the cove were also known as "Covers".
Don’t quote me on this but a few years ago one of the many transatlantic cables was badly damaged in a storm and it caused massive problems and people were shocked by this because, like you, it was assumed that satellites did most of the work these days. Not true apparently. Great video!
Beautiful Sennen Cove and the surrounding area 😍 I remember well the Irish Lady cliff from 2019 when I walked there. But I thought she survived from a shipwreck and managed to cling to this cliff for a while, but lost her grip and drowned before anyone could save her. Well, I am probably wrong, but she will surely be haunting this place anyway 🙂👻. What an exciting story about the huge amount of contraband. The late Canadian actor Christopher Plummer, who played baron von Trapp in The Sound of Music, he was born more than 100 years after 1805 and was probably never connected to smuggling in Sennen Cove 🤣🤣🤣 Genever is known as the national spirit of the Netherlands. I quite like it and it is not very unlike the Italian Grappa in my opinion. I hope Andrew's shoes are dry and have not been ruined by the salt and sand. This was an interesting and beautiful video. My wish is for a video of you swimming in Nanjizal cave 😄
Spent 7 weeks in the boxy house half way up the hill at 6.28min in 1978, the wife and the kids spent all day on the beach, while I had to work....grrrrr

Really really interesting video at Sennen Cove. Many thanks. Jim
Hi Guys, my wife and I have very happy memories of Sennen Cove, we love the place. Many thanks again. Take care.

Love the books with the photos, & your sense of humour & you knowledge of the places you visit,
Brilliant

lots of times, all of which were and are happy memories....
Thanks. Looks fab day. But, I had to laugh at the beginning when my captions said you were at Salem cove 😅
How funny! Sarah :)
A nice video of you having breakfast that can only be a nice day. It's just nice how you research the old books and tell the stories in pictures. Thank you for the great video, how is your puppy it would be great to see something on your channel too. Best regards, Gunter
We had such a lovely time at Sennen back in 2017. Gorgeous place.

❤ lovely to see you both, 😊
Telling us to take our shoes and socks off is no better than asking us to stop and ask for directions.
Men are from Mars! Sarah :)
I love the beach today. The history around Land's End is so interesting. Love the smugglers and ghost stories. Glad you picked this walk today.
Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah :)

A beautiful cove! Sarah :)

You’re right! Also stayed there years ago and bought a picture in the Roundhouse that still hangs on my wall. Such a lovely place!
Yes, still a gallery, with some beautiful pieces! Sarah :)
Great video as ever, love the out takes . Andrew, next time listen to Sarah, she’s obviously the sensible one.
Very funny! Sarah :)
The dogs name is Lowen, my daughter`s. It`s a regular walk of ours`, using various footpaths`, from our home in Trethewey😀🐕
Used to walk that route often with dogs. Free entrance to Lands End 😉. Miss it a lot even though only near Looe but cannot get there.
Ps I went the opposite direction of course.
Best way to visit Land's End! Sarah :)
Genever is the old name for a type of Gin made in Holland.
I noticed you didn't mention Overhillers and Underhillers. How people referred to each other dependant on if they lived at the top of the hill or the bottom of the hill. Residents of the cove were also known as "Covers".
Believe it or not : we've BEEN there..There's about 200 steps up and it was hard work for an elderly woman like me ..Will the dog loved it there..♥️
Yes, a lot of ups and downs! Sarah :)
Sennen-Ride.If you know…You know!
I don't know, staying near here this year for three weeks in summer so please enlighten me.👍
It's okay, found it, great track, I'll play it while I'm there.
Can u recommend any old black&white films with smugglers
I think Poldark series 1 comes close! Or Jamaica Inn, the 1939 Hitchcock version maybe?!? Sarah :)

Yes, there is an interesting display about it at Porthcurno, I think it said that only 3% of communication goes via satellite! Sarah :)

LOL! No one needs to see that!! I am long past swimming in the sea - leave that to the visitors these days! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails 🤣🤣🤣 Then I will have to do it myself once I go back there 😄🥶 If so; I'll send you a photo or a video clip
Spent 7 weeks in the boxy house half way up the hill at 6.28min in 1978, the wife and the kids spent all day on the beach, while I had to work....grrrrr

In dreams!

Jenever or Dutch Gin.
"Geneva", Genever is Gin. Probably Dutch.
Jenever is Dutch for gin
Wet feet are better than web feet. LOL😂
