I had a 30i in red for 3 yrs and just got a 40i also in red. White not my thing. In black the whole car disappears - works really well on other models (2 series) but not this one. Love the red and have had a lot of compliments from complete strangers! Love the car, great fun and very versatile - equally happy around town, on motorways or B roads.
I think the m40 will be the next upgrade once I get bored of this. I agree on the black, that’s my view also. I’m about to meet my friend in his E89 and we’re off out into the countryside then a pub lunch, can’t beat it!
@@michaeldoesstuffs I've had an M40i since December 2022. It is excallent. I don't want or need more power, the thing flies ! Oddly enough I didn't want a white one either, but once I saw one in white with a magma red interior I was sold, and bought it.
@@PeteSQ we’re currently down in Monaco on a mammoth z4 roadtrip. My friend has a 3.0l E89 and the sound in the tunnels through the Alps was something else. I think the M40i will be the next choice for me, but will stick with this for now.
I recently bought a 30i which doesn't have the comfort pack, so no wind deflector. It's virtually impossible to have a conversation or hear the audio when you're traveling at speed with the roof down, so I bought the wind deflector kit, including the replacement roll bar covers with slots in to hold the deflector in place. (The standard covers don't have them, so you can't just buy the deflector on its own.) £600 quid for the deflector kit... and another £210 (£175+vat) if you want/need BMW to fit it! (Luckily, I could do it myself.) Crazy money... but I think it's essential. Enjoyed the video. (Liked and subbed.) Have a great road trip!
That is actually a lot more expensive that I expected it to be, seems better to negotiate when purchasing (if buying new). Road trip will be in August!
@@michaeldoesstuffs absolutely! It's a ridiculous amount... but that's BMW for you. I don't know how the original owner drove the car with the roof down and no deflector... it's horrendous without it! So, I had to bite the bullet and get one. You should be guaranteed some decent weather in August 🤞😎
@@Sky_Lamba seems all good. The car I've bought is four years old, with 17k miles on and the roof looks as good as new. I've had it treated, which should keep it in good condition...and I've bought a half cover, for when we have heavy rain forecast. The roof is extremely good quality, so I expect it to last for a long time.
Just bought an M40i in Glacier Silver. After a few mods on it I can say it is the best car i've ever had in my life. (And i owned an E46 M3 and a 997 Carrera S before)
I really want one. My only major issue with it - and this might be an unpopular opinion - but I actually like hard-top convertibles, and this only comes in soft top. I think hard top convertibles look equally as good as soft tops. Never understood why so many convertible people say soft tops look better. Do they? I don’t necessarily think they look better. Just different. Particularly living in London, a hardtop just feels more secure. But that boot space in the G29 is really amazing (for a convertible). I don’t (and won’t) have kids, so I don’t need to worry about 4 seats. But the E89’s boot is crazy tiny, and the G29 has a really good sized boot.
Check out my other video for a comparison. My advice is, go and sit in an E89 and sit in a G29 then decide. We just came back from a weeks driving across France and I’d rather be sat in the G29. If it’s a daily I’d go for the G29, if it’s a weekend car then an E89 is fine. The hard top is good, but complicated and it’s known to break, plus it adds a lot of weight (which is why they removed it). That said, I like the idea of a hard top due to the reasons you mention. Pluses and minuses to both.
@@michaeldoesstuffs oh yes. I don’t dislike the G29 by any means. I just sort of wish it came in a hard top convertible option as well. They are both different cars and look quite different. I like the look of both of them, and couldn’t afford a G29 if I wanted one right now. But could afford a well maintained, low mileage second hand 2017-year E89.
@@AndoCommando1000 I live in London with my Z4 (soft top) parked on street. Never had a problem. Did worry initially but not for a long time. Benefit of the soft top is the boot space is uncompromised. Which is a real benefit. Agree a hard top has a different look but the profile of the new soft top is pretty much what a hard top equivalent would look like. I think they’ve done an amazing job on it.
I just bought a black one last month. Love the car, only tell me how you clean that rear window 😅. Like the aggressive front look of it, boot space is amazing.. electric golf trolley and bag fit in nice 👍 keep your reviews coming 👍 finding accessories difficult to find, fancy a boot mat and the new Z4 rubber mats for winter but silly price from Latvia 🤷🏻♂️ not UK
Cool, glad you’ve got one. I still love mine! There are other videos on my channel where we did a roadtrip over the summer so go and check those out. I’m always amazed at the size of the boot given it’s a roadster, it makes it easy to use as a daily driver. As for cleaning the back window, I’ve not attempted it but I’ve seen some comments online where people say they take the roof part way down which then allows them to access/clean the rear window.
Ye, watched your road trip, a lot of driving and the car certainly ran well apart from dings to your wheels. I’m just outside Edinburgh and have some great long stretches of country roads which I’ve been out on to check how the car handles. My 1st BMW, few Mercs, RS and Lexus’s, was after a Boxster 718 but still little pricey and when the Mrs was getting new Lexus this had been traded in, had a test drive and Sold 😂. NC500 on the cards now 👍
Congratulations on your acquisition! one question: What's the name of the color? San Francisco Red? On your video it looks amazing! I have a hard time deciding the color I want to buy that car.
Yes, San Francisco Red. It’s one of those colours that looks different in different light conditions, but I love it. If you’re going for a brand new one check out the purple and grey colours, they look really nice. Red is the best of the older models in my view, but appreciate everyone is different, they’re all nice to be fair
z-roadsters have a handle inside the trunk lid, so please guys, don't touch it on the outside closing it, please... ;-) I see this fault again and again
Very nice video you made there! But take off the stripes mate :) just IMHO. Still congrats on your purchase. Also, if you want to you can find someone to program / code for you that the windows go up after roof folded down. I speed up the operation by coding that the windows don't fully go down when opening the roof in the first place, but only as much as when the roof is closed (1-2 inches perhaps). Then you can also have the ASD (Artificial Sound Design) deactivated by having coded it. I did it because the ASD gave me a headache when driving with the roof up. Oh and wife also said that I bought myself a mid-life crisis car ... :0 and we did a CH, AT, IT roadtrip in the second year we had it. Great experience and you'll have fun I'm sure!
