Firearms cops grapple gundog-trainer granny

Armed police subjected gundog-owning granny Helen Cadman to a terrifying and painful ordeal. They smashed open the gates to her Warwickshire home at 8am on a Sunday. Still in her nightdress, they dragged her across her yard. Her crime? Training her labradors in her paddock using a dummy launcher (not a gun). In an interview, she tells her story. She is now taking legal advice and is planning a formal complaint.
Warwickshire police says:
At 7.31am on 7 June the force received a report of a disturbance at a house in Pinley in which gunshots were heard. This was reviewed by the Inspector in our control room and armed officers were deployed to the scene.
Inspector Dan James from Warwickshire Police Operation Patrol Unit says: “Our firearms officers are trained to respond to unpredictable and often volatile situations. They assess each job on the information available to them and respond accordingly.
“When officers respond to a report of shots being fired such as this, their main aim is to protect life, and this dictates the actions they take. I appreciate this can sometimes be viewed as aggressive but there is a reason for this, which is to ensure people are safeguarded and the site is secure.
“Having viewed the video I can see that once the site was secure the attending officers fully explained their actions.”
