This one always sounded the most interesting of all the Sundance movies. After hearing you speak about it, I'm even more excited now! As a big fan of Succession (the theme song is my ringtone on my phone), something about Kieran and Jesse together is intriguing.
This is great filmmaking.
Seen it three times.
Script, acting, direction all top notch.
I saw this back at Sundance too and gave the same score. Then saw it again today on the big screen and loved it even more. 9 out of 10. I think it could be a sleeper Oscar fave like Coda. It has everything you want in a great film IMO.
He was amazing in Igby Goes Down.
This movie was fantastic! Watched it last night and still thinking bout it today. 👏🏽 nice work Eisenberg and Culkin
One film this reminded me a bit of, and this movie could work as a double feature with Real Pain, is Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited. Both movies surround estranged loved ones who travel to a foreign country in honor of a deceased loved one where they both air and try to overcome their tensions with each other, and also in a way get closer and understand each other better over this time. There’s enough to differentiate the two, but I thought of that one quite a bit.
It's a Planes Trains and Automobiles reboot. Kieran Culkin is John Candy. Jesse Eisenberg is Steve Martin.
This was the hardest one for me to nab a virtual ticket for. It was the first one to sell out, and I kept trying and trying to nab an extra one that might’ve gone on sale. Fortunately, I got a screener when it won a Screenwriting Award, and I got an awards screener for it. And it ended up being one of my favorites of the fest, along with THELMA, KNEECAP, and Exhibiting Forgiveness.
Great review, thank you !! One to put on the list.
Robbed from best picture nomination idc what y’all say
He might not win, but he'll probably get nominated. I love him
Honestly fave film with Jesse Eisenberg is HOLY ROLLERS about Hasidic Jews who actually were involved in ecstasy trafficking in the early 2000’s. It’s based on a true story and absolutely unlike any other story I’ve ever seen.
Thanks, Brian. This seems like a good movie to see. I have always liked Jesse, especially in "The Social Network." I believe that he should have received an Oscar for his performance. I'm less familiar with Kieran, because unlike most of the world, I did not care for "Succession." I only saw Season 1 via a DVD from the library.
I stopped watching Succession after two or three eps of season one, but was pushed by friends to try again. It took years, but I thanked them later.
I just subscribed to you I’ve been watching your stuff for I guess about six or seven months really enjoying I just subscribed to you I’ve been watching your stuff for I guess about six or seven months really enjoying your commentary. Curious, did you see the Irish language film Kneecap? I heard it was pretty spectacular.
8:52 Just watched it on Hulu, but I can’t place the scene you’re referring to-which scene is this?
I think it's the part where they leave stones at their grandma's house and the neighbor tells them it's a tripping hazard.
Where to see that?
Poland
Emilia Perez, I honestly can't freaking understand why this movie has more Oscar nominations than Casablanca, Ben-Hur, The Lord of The Rings, Sleepless in Seattle, The Revenant, Chicago, The Goodbye Girl, Forrest Gump and Schindler's List.
So, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is sending a message to the world that this movie is better than Casablanca and Schindler's List... Why ? This is a sincere question to the members of the Academy... Why ?
Are we sure that isn’t Zach Galifianskis?
Among the best of Hollywood offerings today, which is truly pathetic because it’s barely mediocre.
Isn't it pronounced JESS and not JESSIE?
Nope, it's definitely pronounced like Jessie
So much better than ugly BeKindRewind
Can we just stop with this? This is not Oscar worthy.
100% disagree
Your comment is ageing poorly.
I agree, I had serious issues with this movie and with Culkin performance.
@@lastferdolike what?
@queenmadison2743 for me he is being Kieran Culkin, he is not performing. And I found it kinda fake performance.
