This was an extremely potent QLD team, and the blues were packed with talent as well. I know people talk about JT, Lockyer, smith, GI and folau as being the part of best ever QLD team, but you can’t deny the likes of shearer, Hancock, Lewis, geno and kerrod. Even Currie and the emerald express were very dangerous.

You look at that 1989 nsw side there were some players who back then where very young and were good players that had pretty decent s.o.o careers , like Bradley Clyde, Laurie Daley , Glenn Lazarus, etc that had very good origin careers , those two games of nsw losing 36-6 and 36-16 was mainly due in my view to the fact that most of these nsw players were intimated by the hate nsw qld fans and these players lack of origin experience.

@@shanewilson199 I think most , if not all qld fans having a bad go at the nsw players as the nsw team bus went past the Caxton Hotel ( supposing the nsw team bus went past the Caxton hotel in the 1989 s.o.o series) I think could have badly affected the nsw blues players in the 1989 s.o.o series.

@@thewayneflyinghigh9128 that Penrith team from 91 was a tremendous team, and had it not been for Alexander’s brother’s death they would have played Brisbane in 92. Unfortunately he had a lot of competition in his position at the national level. I used to listen to the origin on the radio often because I had to work, and every time he had the ball, or Phil Blake I’d get worried.

I was at this game . Went by plane from Sydney and I was on the bus to go back to surfers with about 20 minutes to go. NSW got flogged.

The 1989 QLD State of Origin squad would have thrashed any team in the world they were that good. Speed, strength, ball skills, everything covered. This year’s team eerily has that capability.
