As we were recording Kill The Moonlight, Peter Simonite and Julie King would come by with Peter’s super 8 camera, put it on a tripod, set it to a super slow speed, and just let it go. They’d come back an hour later, move the tripod, put in a new reel, and they’d be gone again. Pretty good document of how we made that album: Public Hi-Fi studio was at that point an ex-garage that Jim had carpeted and moved some gear into. We were all in one room, the drums, the console, the amps, the vocals. Jim did have a piano in his house across the yard, so occasionally when his wife was at work we’d take some very long cables and stretch them out to his house and somehow it worked that I could play piano and it’d end up on the 16 track machine back in the studio -- as long as it wasn’t broken, and as I remember it we had 4 weeks to make this album and during 2 of them the tape deck was down. You get to see a lot here -- that’s Mike McCarthy air drumming to show Jim a part he had in mind, Roman Kuebler doing a bass take, me recording myself doing a keyboard part before Mike and Jim got there one day, and Jim practicing his perfect posture as he put down some drums. - Britt

It's always nice to randomly get some Spoon in your subscription feed at 10 in the morning
Feels like a 1967 English hit. This track and the whole album is an absolute banger!
My very first Spoon concert they opened with this song. I was baked. Amazing show, They are the best live band. SPOON!!
This album got me through some tough times. Who's with me?
YES. More Spoon.
Wow look at all the hard work they do
Listening to this at 10:30 pm just before sleeping is just satisfying 💯
I was just listening to Kill The Moonlight, amazing record
Greatest tambourine performance I've heard 👏
I've been getting back into Spoon lately and couldn't be more happier with this. They're amazing, they always get it right
I will never forget the two concerts I saw you guys perform in 2017. I lived in Florida at the time and after Hurricane Irma I didn’t have much to look forward to cuz it ruined so much of what I had planned for the rest of the year. But when you came back down to Florida in October for the Jacksonville concert, it was so exciting for me to see you again after seeing you in Orlando in May. Thank you for all that you do and please stay safe during the pandemic in Austin. You guys are a national treasure
I was at the Jacksonville show that year too - what a great night!
What a fun window into the studio! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
(And on a side note, Britt hunched over the keyboard on the floor made me immediately think of Schroeder. 😅)
Me too! I’ve got a postcard with Schroeder on my night stand and was like “yep, can’t see a difference!”
Year late but it makes me think of the evolution image where the final guy is hunched over a computer
This video is the best. Gotta love the commitment of these guys :)
Dropped like a little slice of hope just when I needed it ❤️
First and favorite video I remember of you guys. Much love! Thank you!
Bass goin hard
Wurlitzers for life!
Best song by the best indie rock band of all time!
SPOON
What a great track to open up an album. If The Beatles were around in 2002, they would have written an album very similar to Kill the Moonlight.
Good song

I remember years ago when my Mom first heard this when she was in the car with me. She turned to me and said, "This sounds like a Jerry Lee Lewis song." I've thought about that ever since she said it.
👍
Sounds like the Doors
