Hello Doris. I learned of you, and your RUclips channel, from the interview you did with “Sewing with Threads” on their October 2, Podcast. Your interview was excellent, and it led me here. I want you to know that I love the content of your RUclips channel. I am a sewer. I love just about all types of fabric art and fabric construction. Watching and listening to your channel feeds my interests. Thank you for sharing.
Vega Maddux is my paternal grandmother. Unfortunately she passed away too early for me to have any memories of her and I’m mostly estranged from my father so have only heard a handful of stories about her. My mother is a jeweler who appreciated Vega before she met my father, and so we have a couple of her pieces still. Her art is so beautiful. I love being able to see more of it and learn more about her through way of her collectors. I hope to someday collect some of her pieces myself. Thank you for sharing this video ☺️
Sorry I did not see you comment until now. Even more sorry that you didn’t have a chance to meet this amazing personality and artist. Her pieces are some of my most treasured items.
I received my first special mumu from Hawaii from my Grandma and Grandpa when I was 3 years old. I still have it. My younger brother received a shirt, which was also saved and I also have my mom's dress. All of the same fabric. Over the years I have added to my collection and just love trying on the different styles. I would love to see a show on them. Might just encourage a few more people to share that Aloha spirit that we all need now. Aloha :)
You are so awesome in your passion for your work, Doris. Always lifts me up. Thank you for addressing the comments, especially the plus size theme. Maybe you could do an episode on scarves, handbags, hats and other accessories apart from jewelry? With a focus on how these items could be used to "vintagize" a plus size outfit? All the best from Germany!
Thank you for introducing us to another fabulous designer/artist Doris! I have not heard of Vega Maddux and I'm glad you put the spotlight on her...her pieces are absolutely gorgeous! The combination of materials and colors and proportion in the Art Nouveau style is stunning! These pieces sure aren't for wallflowers because Vega's jewelry is a statement. Minimalism left the chat, hahaha!
Wow. These pieces are absolutely astounding. If I were out and about, and saw anything like these (and I had some moolah) I would buy them fast. I just love them. They’re right up my alley. . . but the I adore jewelry. Thanks for the education.
This was, again, amazing. Thank you Doris. These pieces are incredibly detailed and beautifully made. You can really sense that they tell a story and are crafted with so much thought and love. The color stories are stunning. The colors and materials really compliment the size of the pieces. It is also telling that the person behind the jewelry is such an iconic, artistic and charismatic woman.
I am sure I have a pair of earrings and have been searching for the designer. Could be from the son taking over. They are outrageous. I know they are special. I need to pull those and get an appraisal. Wow. I love your videos.
Hi Matthew. I’m jealous!! Did you actually meet her? Let me know if you ever want to sell any of your pieces. I’m always looking to add to my collection. Thanks for your interest. Doris
Looking at that jewelry, was like visiting the Met (NYC). I am so glad images were also used as the detail was unbelievable. I enjoy jewelry that doesn't depend on a huge precious stone to sell the product. The detail work reminded me of the Fabergé eggs. Actually I am glad the jewelry is expensive. I would not be able to own it, but its value will ensure its safe keeping and longevity.
From showgirl to jewelry designer - what a fascinating woman! I had never heard of Vega Maddux jewelry until now. Thank you for introducing her beautiful work to us. It is definitely one-of-a-kind.
The colors and style are each a very unique piece of art. I never have seen anything like this before. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom! You are so serious and yet can be funny at the same time. You made me laugh when you said don't bother trying to buy these on the website because they are yours! You are so cute! I love the style and the color grey of your hair and my God it doesn't hurt to have such pretty eyes! Always sending you love!
Thank you, Doris. I received an unexpected affirmation from you when one of your videos, featuring a horizontal stripe Dior, triggered a memory from my childhood. When I was nine years old I designed my own Barbie clothes from remnant fabric. One of my creations looked like that Dior. I crafted her from a piece of polished cotton, orange & white, narrow horizontal stripes. I remember the simple construction; gathering the waistline with a single thread then tacking the bodice so it wouldn’t be a crumb-catcher. In writing this, Doris, I wanted to affirm you and the pleasure you give many. 👗👠👜❤️
Oh, just oh...these take my breath away, some of these pieces represent nature in such a beautifull way! Thankyou for sharing with the world, Cheers from Australia
Sooo glad u posted today! Love love love your videos and especially when a lovely character like Vega is remembered! You have the best calming demeanor and I always enjoy you!
WOW! Thank you for introducing us to such an incredible designer. These pieces have an almost art nouveau feel in their organic, nature-inspired motifs, and yet they feel so fresh and eccentric!
i watch every episode you make and lot it every time. I would love to see a video of you describing the shop, the different sections, why is it here, how do you categorise the pieces, maybe seing your office or the place where you put close that are not in sale at the moment?
Just watched this video again. I might have a pair of her earrings and am researching. I found several pieces like the piece that you questioned if she had finished. It has no enamel. I found a few pieces like that - more modernist brutalist. It might be intentional. I wonder if my earrings are not from her flea market. They are outrageously unique.
Great episode! Amazing pieces...lust-worthy to say the least! It was nice of you to mention viewers at the end, too. I've always loved shopping vintage.....but....it seems the coolest (& oldest) stuff that survives are really small in size....packed away for decades because nobody could fit in them anymore *deep sigh*
Could you do a section on scarfs ... in all the films n photo you always see lady’s with scarf headband ect there must been some beautiful items around xx
I bought a necklace from a funky vintage shop in Studio City CA in 2003 or 2004 and paid about $400 ; it’s a large piece with enamel, rosé quarts and beautiful detailing- signed with the lightly scratched in signature I’ve seen. How do I get it appraised or valued? I had no idea it was valuable- I just loved it.
Hi, I would be interested in seeing an episode on 'Logo' covered items. Especially the time with the LV, GUCCI or labels perhaps that were not so popular but we're logo rich. Regards Marissa
i respectfully disagree when u said the earrings weren't as intricate. yes, they may have used less stones (heavy) but because of the size, they are just as intricate, probable more tedious to make 💜 i adore the color combos, right up my alley! the shapes are lovely and the back of that one big necklace can be used for a simple look that needs brightening up with silver =]
I just type in Vegas Marcus Jewelry and everything on her comes up on google. Go to Morning Glory Antiques and Jewelry for a brief bio and more of her fine works.
Speaking of which.... 🦊🚬~im prob gonna swing by the store, ostensibly to shop/show-off, but if Auntie Doris is there, I can explain RUclips to her. Free of Charge.🌻
Hi Melissa. Her pieces are true works of art but not all of the pieces I have seen by her are what I would consider spectacular. I’m not quite ready to let go of any of my Vega pieces because I was pretty choosy, but if you are serious-please email the store with your contact information and put Vega in the subject title. The email address is : thewaywewore@sbcglobal.net Thanks so much for appreciating them! I will reach out when I decide to sell any of them. Doris
You are a doll! Thank you so much for expanding my world regarding jewelry. 👍❤️
You are so welcome!

Loved this presentation. Great idea to tie in items and the end of the segment!
Since it’s almost Halloween, you should do a Halloween episode
Is it possible to do a episode about Ann Klein or Nicole Miller and some of their signature designs? Love and enjoy each episode 😊😊😊
Could you do a section on scarfs ... in all the films n photo you always see lady’s with scarf headband ect there must been some beautiful items around xx

Unsure how to get it appraised. But if you Google Vegas- you’ll see how valuable her pieces are.
Congrats on finding a piece at a bargain!!
Fantastic sense of colour, I love how much we learn from this channel. Thanks Doris & team.
