Great footage and awesome images as always!! It’s wonderful to see you with your dad. You 2 are quite the pair! What I wouldn’t give for another afternoon with my dad. Cherish every moment you have together!!
Thank you, another amazing photographic encounter to watch. Your knowledge, passion and care for the wildlife is infectious and has inspired me to do more and practice to get better, and I get a great laugh watching you & pops.
Thanks very much I really appreciate your kind words. I’m glad that the video has inspired you to do more, that was always our aim. Of course with a few laughs along the way. All the best 👍🏻
What a video Dan you and pops have had an awesome Mull adventure and I am very very jealous. Please keep on making your videos they are spot on and just make me get out there with my camera.
Hi Dan & Pops I enjoy your videos I think you are so lucky to have your dad to enjoy your photo trips with. I’m the same age as pops, and I lost my wife 12 years ago so I have to do everything on my own. Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the viewers. I only took up wildlife photography when my wife passed away to try to have something to do as I miss her so much
My Mam (Pops wife) passed 5 years ago and Pops and me started going out photographing wildlife together as a way to help the grieving process. I thoroughly believe that nature is a medicine for mental health and I know that Pops, despite missing my Mam terribly, feels the same. If we ever cross paths in the future do come and say hello, all the best 👍🏻
Thank you very much. I really do appreciate time spent photographing with Pops, we always have such a giggle and don’t take things too seriously. All the best 👍🏻
I echo the sentiments and excitement from so many others. You both captured awesome images and footage. Your chemistry with Pops is authentic and that brings so much joy to all of us. Your collective sense of humor is fairly hilarious. I’ll remember the song 😆
I'd love to know where the best spot to spot the otters, but ya know what guys the best part of this blog is you had the chance to share this with pops ! Sadly mine has passed 😢, I've seen the white tailed Eagles on mull and I've seen the northern lights on mull , but otters I've always hidden from me 😂, great blog guys enjoy your time together.
Thanks very much Mark, sorry to hear that your Dad has passed 💔 I have done a video previously about photographing otters on mull with some generic location advice, it might point you in the right direction. All the best 👍🏻
I've been following you for a long time, I've never written a comment, because I'm French and English and I are two, I must be your dad's age. But I have to tell you that I love the outings you go on with your dad and your humor. Thank you both for these great images and video. Kind regards Michel
Merci beaucoup pour votre commentaire et votre soutien continu. j'apprécie vraiment cela. n'hésitez pas à envoyer un message en français. J'apprécie les messages des téléspectateurs étrangers. tous mes vœux.
Hi Dan, It's great to see you and POPS braving the elements ! i'm obsessed about photographing otters, I have recently returned from Isle of Aran having encountered these beautiful creatures, unfortunately thanks to over insuberant tourists who ran to the shoreline with their iPhones at hand and cheering 🙄 I was unfortunately unable to capture any shots !! However I did manage to spend 2 hours with some otters having got up at 5am the next day, best experience of my life just admiring them and their habitat. Great videos as always such a joy to watch.i will now be heading to Mull once I have upgraded some of my kit first.
Thanks so very much Paul. I have experienced something very similar whilst on Mull photographing otters! So I feel your pain. On a side note, I visited Arran for the first time this summer and didn't really have enough time to find much in the way of wildlife. If you wouldn't mind sharing the location of your otter sighting to my email (dannwillis79@gmail.com) I would really appreciate it. No worries if not, locations are often closely guarded secrets 😂 All the very best 👍🏻
Great stuff guys and kudos as always for putting the wildlife first because unfortunately many don’t! 😀👍 Really appreciate the effort you put in and that you share it with us! 👏😀👍
Good evening Dan, I've seen some good photos of otters on Mull nature watch but those on your channel last night were absolutely marvellous, great to see the banter between you and pop's, and have a laugh even though the typical Scottish weather wasn't kind. Brilliant video as usual, magic.
What an incredible experience for you both, it’s all about the right place at the right time & a huge dollop of luck & you guys nailed it. Coupled with your excellent tactics of keeping ahead & out of sight of them, & presumably downwind; it definitely paid off for you both & I’m chuffed for you both. As you know Dan, I am fortunate enough to have my own Pops accompanying me on some of my adventures & it’s just special seeing his face light up when we get to see & photograph our chosen targets. A thoroughly enjoyable watch guys, & I think I have a new motto for you pair of nutters…. “Gotta get an asylum for two” 🤣🤣🤣 Cracking stuff Dan & Stu! Seriously you should consider taking this up full time Dan, get some pilots filmed & send them off to BBC, ITV, Discovery, Nat Geo etc. Keep on keeping on guys! Best, Nick
Thanks very much Nick, love your new song for us…….brilliant 😂😂😂 I’d love to do this full time, can you imagine being paid to do what you love! You could never call that work could you. Always appreciate your kind words mate, all the best to you and your very own Pops 👍🏻
Superb anyone that says handed to you on a plate is plain daft. Personally I think a major TV channel could do something special with you and Pops and your adventures.
Fantastic video and photography, once again you and Pops show how it should be done some great advice, this was so good I had to watch it twice, was also wondering, has Nikon let you have a sneak preview of their new secret 8000mm lens for the head shot of the otter (check out the caption at around 10:49 mins) Lol. Joking aside these videos are so refreshing and joyful to watch, I hope one day our paths will cross would be great to chat, once again thanks to you and Pops for taking the time to share these precious moments.
Thanks very much Steve, Nikon are letting us use their secret lenses camouflaged to look like normal ones 😂😂😂 Appreciate the comments and support, all the best 👍🏻
Hi Dan, just watched both videos back to back...what a fabulous trip and how great to be able to share your passion with your father. I am stunned at the quality of the 8000mm(10:47) )lens. Regretting that we missed Mull this year, you had a great session on the Lady Jane and I'm glad to see the WTE nest is still there, I thought it was in jeopardy last year. I've said before how valuable is your emphasis on fieldcraft for otter tracking, who knows maybe it will catch on! BTW what make is your camp jacket? keep the videos coming
Thanks very much for your comment it’s really appreciated. I too am astounded at how Nikon have packed a 8000mm lens into such a small package 😂 The jacket (I assume you mean the 3D camouflage one) is from Amazon and was really cheap tbh but works really well. All the best 👍🏻
Stunning as usual ,love seeing you and pops together. It’s not as easy as some think to get good encounters with the otters, so well done. My turn next week 🦦🦦
Another great video Dan & Pops… it’s great how you keep plugging good field craft with the otters 👍🏻 we need more people/photographers to up their game for sure. Have you ever gone after the Golden Eagles on Mull, some good nest locations around the locations you were driving through
Thanks very much Karl, very much appreciated. Golden Eagles have always evaded me whilst on Mull but it’s definitely a subject I would love to photograph 👍🏻
Another great video, what a a pair, you have even introduced some comedy into your videos now 🤣....just wondering, on these multiple day trips you must take thousands of photos/videos, do you edit some at the end of each day or wait until you get back home to get stuck into them?....keep up the good work!
Thanks very much Chris, glad you are appreciating the humour. Yes thousands of images over the course of the week. We try to set aside an hour each night to download all the images off memory cards and get everything on charge and complete some editing. It’s funny you get into a routine when you are away and it just becomes a part of the trip. Great question, thanks for asking 👍🏻
@danwillis_photography I usually download my images from the camera while away, but never do any editing until I get home, however, we are off to Majorca for a 6 day birding holiday in a few weeks (just got back from there after a recky) and will no doubt also have thousands of photos which I know will be a long winded exercise to go through when I get home 🤣 thanks for the great videos 🖕
Thanks very much Ian I really appreciate it. I don’t use any tripod or monopod as I feel that they get in the way when scrambling over the rocks. It doesn’t really cause too much trouble for photos but it’s murder for video trying to hold it steady. All the best mate 👍🏻
Lets be honest if they eradicated the Scottish midge it would be the end for Scotland, it would very quickly become over-run with people. Talking ticks it looked to me like one of the Otters had a tick on the inside of an ear! How would you go about eating a scorpion fish, seems Otters just eat anything they want with no problems!
Hahaha you are absolutely right about the outcome if midges vanished. Well spotted on the tick in the otters ear, apparently this year has been terrible for ticks so it’s not surprising to see one but I’m surprised that they can survive being submerged in saltwater as much as it would be on an Otter! As for the Scorpion Fish, the otter certainly tossed it around to try and overcome all those spikes 😱 Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it 👍🏻
Great video and photos
Thank you Maria ☺️
Hello Dan and Pops
superb images of otters and eagles despite terrible weather, but a good atmosphere in the duo
THANKS
Thanks very much I always enjoy and appreciate your comment and support. All the best 👍🏻
You 2 crack me up. Great to see you both enjoying photography together and also getting some amazing photos
Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Great footage and awesome images as always!! It’s wonderful to see you with your dad. You 2 are quite the pair! What I wouldn’t give for another afternoon with my dad. Cherish every moment you have together!!

Great video! Your look when your dad says you’re out of coffe… 🤣
But seriously tho. When there are two dads in a car the dad humor gets real…
I do love my coffee ☕️ and of course some quality Dad humour. Thanks very much for your comment it made me smile 😃
Always entertaining (never fails to make me smile), inspirational and the photography is just stunning. Thanks Dan and Pops!
Thanks very much Clive, I really appreciate your comment and support.

Another great video Dan, when do you start your photography tours 😊
Thanks very much Derek, we are thinking about setting up tours in the not to distant future 👍🏻
Excellent! What month was this video taken please?
Thanks very much John, this video was shot in August of last year 👍🏻
Another great video as usual. Can I just ask do you use tripods or mono pods or just rely on hand held or just any rocks?
Thanks very much Ian I really appreciate it. I don’t use any tripod or monopod as I feel that they get in the way when scrambling over the rocks. It doesn’t really cause too much trouble for photos but it’s murder for video trying to hold it steady.
