@ReformistTM I've just invested 400 ingame days in a Dwarfen campaign. Gunpowder should be used differently from other ranged weapons. 1. Cannons are specialists units, not line infantry. Use standard muskets type weapons instead as the majority of your army, such as Sharpshooters. Max 1 - 3 cannons per army. 2. Have a tanky front line to soak damage from cavarly charges and tie up infantry. Ideally Trolls or Ogres, but make do with any kind of infantry, about 50 yeards infront of the guns. 3. Gunpowder are kinda like crossbows, they have an abundance of ammunition and solid damage, which makes them perfect for sieges. Their weakness is that they need time, which you can buy with having a separate infantry front line.
You should do a full length series on the dwarves. The Engineers are absolutely fantastic now, was seiging an Orc castle with a few as my ally, MY GOD, the entire garrison was wiped out with the first shot from a few Engies.
The cannoneer are great but they require some micro. I usually set them as a different group so I can control their firing, they are best at close range and take too much time to reload so timing is crucial when using them imo. They are usually no more then 10% of my army. Also a couple of cannoneers on siege defense is awesome.
I may just be talking out of my ass here, but im pretty sure that glitch where literally every cannoneer in the line switches weapons when an enemy gets into melee range is only with the cannoneer based units, which is why the leadbelchers and other units that use cannons glitch out within melee range. Try getting rid of all the cannoneer masters and replace them with long rifle units or infantry! Pretty sure this should fix the problem! Cheers man! :)

make 45 % sharpshooter 45 % quatermaster and 10 % cannoneer ... canon are scatter shot short range really long reload put evryting into archer make rank and enjoy ( use infantry charge so whene they out og ammo they go slice and dice )
You would probably be better of using the Pirates melee top tier unit as a single unit army. They have guns so using "hold fire" untill the enemy are at reasonable distance would probaby be awsom with them.
If you get the enemy busy with something else the cannons are deadly,in fact i had a hand cannon on horse and it destroy the dwarves that like to make compact formation,but the weapon i speak use crossbow skill...weird...its sold aroud 90k from a tavern merchant
umm if you look at what they fire for the cannon guys it is a blunder bust or in other words shot gun do sea battles with them they are pirates after all
Sad to say they are indeed not the best o tried to make my own faction before with those and tried to take over the tomb kings I got decimated with pirate troops and changes my faction to chaos and then it went well lol...

Kreml guards are pretty badass, I've seen one of those kill full health and mounted knight of Khorne

You should try out some new unique weapons for fun like the Dwarf 7 shot pistol.

I don't know if this applies to cannons but with dwarf minesweepers i put them right behind my infantry and then they slaughtered every ork i my way.
