I have been on Keto for 8 months with one meal per month that includes sugary carbs like baked potato, tortilla chips, tortillas.
I am 63 years old. My body is fat adapted now and that may be why i do not crave sweets! It is so exciting to me that i went from eating family size bags of m&ms, dove chocolate, donuts, pastries, cake and enormous amounts of cookies daily (all of 2023 and before) then started Keto Jan 1st 2024 and as of today, have lost 70lbs and no longer crave sweets.

🎯 Key points for quick navigation:
00:28 *🍬 Allulose, a sweetener less sweet than sugar, can help manage postprandial glucose and stimulate GLP-1, potentially aiding weight loss.*
02:47 *🐻 Animals like bears naturally regulate weight; they eat more to store fat before winter, a biologically driven process linked to survival instincts.*
04:34 *🍔 A switch in our bodies triggers fat storage by reducing ATP production, making us feel tired and hungry, driven particularly by fructose from sugars and carbs.*
11:49 *🍭 Allulose, unlike other low-calorie sweeteners, doesn't activate the fat storage switch, stimulates GLP-1, and shows promise in managing weight and blood sugar levels.*
14:57 *🏥 GLP-1 agonists like semaglutide help weight loss but have side effects and weight regain issues; allulose offers a milder alternative with potential health benefits.*
23:46 *🕒 Allulose acts quickly (half-life of about 2 hours), ideal for managing blood sugar by taking before meals to reduce glucose spikes.*
25:49 *🩸 Allulose significantly lowers postprandial blood glucose levels, potentially reducing risk factors for conditions like Alzheimer's.*
28:02 *🍫 Taking 10 grams of allulose with a meal effectively dampens blood glucose spikes, particularly beneficial for those with mild to moderate insulin resistance.*
31:15 *🧠 GLP1 agonists like allulose may inhibit glucagon production, which helps in controlling blood glucose levels after meals.*
33:28 *⚙️ The "switch" mechanism driven by fructose metabolism in mitochondria can lead to ATP depletion, oxidative stress, and potentially facilitate cancer cell growth.*
41:59 *🚫 Fructose-induced mitochondrial damage and ATP depletion contribute to insulin resistance, promoting fat storage and metabolic dysregulation in obesity.*
48:19 *🏋️‍♂️ Exercise and nutrients like epicatechin can help regenerate damaged mitochondria, even in individuals who have been overweight for an extended period.*
52:55 *🍫 Dark chocolate, especially with allulose, contains epicatechin which supports muscle growth and mitochondrial function.*
54:19 *🚴‍♂️ Phase two exercises like brisk walking or biking at a lactate threshold are ideal (30-75 minutes, 3 times a week) for stimulating mitochondria.*
58:33 *🍔 Processed foods high in sugar and salt, soft drinks, and high glycemic foods like french fries contribute significantly to metabolic syndrome and weight gain.*
01:02:55 *🧂 Salt increases the conversion of glucose to fructose in the body, exacerbating metabolic issues, especially in conjunction with high carbohydrate intake.*
01:13:30 *🥔 Carbohydrates, especially with added salt, significantly increase the conversion of glucose to fructose, impacting metabolic health differently in those with metabolic syndrome.*
01:18:51 *🍺 Alcohol consumption can trigger glucose conversion to fructose, similar to salt and uric acid.*
01:22:03 *💧 Staying well hydrated can mitigate the effects of salt-triggered glucose-to-fructose conversion.*
01:23:11 *📉 Serum sodium levels slightly above normal range (138-142) increase risks for aging, obesity, and diabetes.*
01:24:42 *🥩 Low-carb diets like keto or carnivore are effective for weight loss and reducing fructose generation from glucose.*
01:29:47 *🧠 Alzheimer's disease is increasingly recognized as a metabolic disease linked to insulin resistance and high fructose levels in the brain.*
01:37:50 *🍲 Umami-rich foods can elevate uric acid levels, which amplify the effects of other foods in causing obesity.*

There is only ONE proper way to lose weight (fat, not lean mass): get the insulin levels down. Cut the sugars and starches. Simple, cheap, but maybe not easy. But would you rather spend tens of 1000s of dollars on dangerous drugs?

    • @jonb9194
      @jonb9194 2 месяца назад +5

You are correct for 99% of the people right now. If you are a real athlete or workout the equivalent of running 6+ miles per day, you will want an insulin spike within an hour after your workout. This greatly enhances recovery from workouts. During the other 23 hours, even athletes probably store more fat than desired if insulin rises.

36:21 "so the mitochondria use oxygen and this other system gets turned on and that's the system that drives cancer. So when you activate this pathway you block the production of energy from the Mitochondria from the factories but there is this other system that takes over which uh cancers low because cancers often grow with in areas with low oxygen and now they here's this energy being made in the absence of oxygen. So tumor cells love it and we actually showed that cancer cells love sugar. The worst for me is sugar alcohols where at one point I woke up, called in sick, and spent the day in bed with liver pains and body aches. Allulose, disrupts me badly also, not with liver pain, but with severe gas and intestinal bloat. IMO anything that gives off warnings like that just cant be good for the body and is a hidden negative. Its not like say Splenda where I drank for 25 yrs and the whole time wondered if it had any negative effect. Oh you say its bad for us....ok I then stopped a yr ago. Allulose instead was like I purchased a massive bag of it and that bag went rather fast. Second bag and halfway thru I was like well this is not making me feel well and I dumped it all down the toilet, expensive dump!

I am back to starch/meat diet. Reason why I keep going off carnivore is I cant seem to rid myself of carb cravings to the point of excessive thoughts all day. At one point 2 days ago my brain was filled with crispy egg rolls. It was turning over in my mind and all the memories of my most delicious egg rolls bites in my life were flooding my mind, as egg rolls being my favorite food LOL. Anyway, with talk about how carbohydrates being what causes the switch where less ATP is produced causing sluggishness and overeating and even more its pointed towards fructose being the "main" culprit I wonder why low to zero fuctose diets are not recommended.
Fructose is everywhere. I was eating a normal diet but with good foods and went from feeling ok to getting severe joint pains all over my body. Breakfast was a bowl of these wheat biscuits with bananas and blue berries and milk. Lunch was pasta with meat sauce etc etc. I came to find that the hidden sugar was not really hidden but was at around 150gms per day. Sugar, which is half fructose is hidden everywhere nowadays. fruits of course but also bread and pasta sauce, hot sauce and whatever its everywhere!

Ozempic actually ruined my metabolic system. I had reduced my A1C to 5.6 on a keto diet..... For one year..but weight loss stalled for 9 months. I got discouraged and gave up. Over the next 4 years I was mostly low carb and the weight loss stayed off except for 20 pounds. My A1C started to climb but was very gradual. Dr wanted me on ozempic. I took it for one year with little to no weight loss or lowering A1C. I expressed my concern and she kept saying up the dose, but it never worked and then she said reduce your meals to only one a day....!😮
I was already low carb and thought...HOW stupid is that.
Guess what, I gave it up and decided to do a keto diet again....but now my metabolic system is so screwed up that keto does not work the same and my A1C is up at 8.9....never was ever that high....never...in 14 years.

The diet is comprised of little or no animal protein and mostly of complex carbs. I don’t touch sugar, junk food or processed foods but 3 times a day, after each meal, my CGM shows that my glucose levels rise to very unhealthy levels. I’ve followed online advise on how to combine and prepare my foods but haven’t had successful results. My mother had Alzheimer’s and this terrifies me. Might be caused by eating high oxalate foods. Spinach, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, beets, potatoes, tea, almond products, chard, turmeric, kiwifruit are all high. Also vitamin C supplement breaks down into oxalate. Oxalates bind with minerals making them unavailable for absorption plus they form sharp crystals that damage the kidneys, cause joint pain, fibromyalgia, and sometimes urinary stones.
I read about a woman who swopped lots of cashews for potato chips and seriously damaged her kidneys within a month.
See Sally K Norton videos for more information. If you are eating a lot of oxalates, you need to reduce them slowly or can have dumping symptoms.

    Great interview!
When you get near normal body composition (not weight), at that point, you cannot continue to live off of ketones without having a mechanism to replenish your body fat stores.
I think the paranoia that can occur towards fructose can be overblown if you think you can exercise full control of your own body. Not likely.
Hibernating animals benefit greatly from living off their fat, so it's not a death sentence. But they do live in a cyclic manner. There's going to be automatic systems that work despite our limited understanding of the system.
Moderation is still going to be key. Varied diet and fasting patterns are integral to that, but people, including me, want a simple (albeit boring) one stop solution to living healthy. Not going to happen.

I have been saying this for 10 years since I first saw Dr. Johnson on the Mercola RUclips channel. We know the main reason we gain body fat is as a survival mechanism. Johnson's work on fructose literally proves why we like sugar so much. We get addicted because our bodies are telling us to eat as much fruit as possible in the fall because the extra fat may mean the difference between starving to death, or gaining enough fat to survive until spring.
Fructose is the true, main reason we get fat because we are eating extracted fructose year-round to prepare for a famine that's never going to come...
Fructose causes obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.
I write about this in my book, which features lots of Richard Johnson's research, called "Cavemen Weren't Fat."

Neanderthal people (the 1st cavemen) in my opinion were going into hibernation mode during wintertime so they had to build fat in their bodies. it was not only a survival mechanism but it was also a way to regulate their body's temperature while staying inactive for longer periods of time. They were able to store fat in their stomach, but also in their calves, their hands, their nose, their ears and their eyes. All parts in therir bodies was constructed to keep heat at a maximum level; it was very convenient when it gets cold but unbearable during summertime. I also believe the depression gene comes from Neanderthals, b/c their bodies was able to shut down completely with a slow metabolism during wintertime.

Wonderful podcast here. I have a question: since even protein can elevate post prandial blood glucose, with a concomitant rise in insulin, for a short time - and since in healthy individuals this is normal, is there a downside to suppressing this with 10 g. of allulose? Do we really want to suppress natural and normal release of insulin?

This polyol pathway might explain the higher risk for lung cancer in IPF (an interstitial lung disease). In a patient dx’d with both diseases late in cancer progression it may shed light on which came first. Unfortunately not actionable for the terminal cancer patient, but possibly quite valuable for first degree relatives who also have pulmonary fibrosis.
But this raises questions for me too. I have elevated uric acid, just about 2 mg/dl above normal. I also eat a fairly well controlled low carb-keto diet and avoid starches and sugar. I have heard that ketone bodies and uric acid compete for excretion and that this can explain my higher uric acid. But it also concerns me that I may need to lower carbohydrate intake even further to avoid activating the polyol-fructose-uric acid pathway. Is there a way to know which is responsible for the elevation of uric acid? My thinking is that since my carbs come mostly from high fiber sources, the slow metabolism of the carbohydrate would meditate the endogenous production of fructose.
