You also need to consider the weight of a given volume of the refrigerant. For example r410a has a molecture weight of 72.6 and r290 has a molecture weight of 44.09. So to calculate how much r290 to to weigh in you would 44.09÷72.6=.607 then multiply the stated r410a amount by .607 to find the weight of the r290 needed to charge the system. Hence a system calling for 6lb of r410a only requires 3.46 lbs of r290 anything more and the system would be over charged.
It's really not that simple. Since the pressures are so much lower in an R290 system, the compressor stroke ( compression per revolution) is much smaller in an R410a compressor. A larger compressor stroke is required for an efficient R290 compressor to achieve the same kW of refrigeration. On the upside, even with the larger compressor, an R210 uses less energy and has a higher COP and works at lower ambient temperatures.

I just put r290 until I reach the boiling temperature I want. (4bar) Just filled up a dumpster unit I found and it's really nice in my house right now whith these historical high temperatures. The unit was rated above 1kw, now it peaks at 780w and I filed it to be a bit above freezing so it won't build up ice in the evap. The oil will disolve some of the propane ant it might need a top-up a few days after the initial charge.
To convert from r410 to r290 you need to change the TXV expansion valve to R290 one , close to you system power. and the load need to be reduced to 40% than original. Will work with slitly higher COP , and the condenser temperature need to be keeped between 48-52*C for high efficiency . For R410A the high efficyency is arownd 40-42*c on condenser
What a palava! Just buy a new unit, or go fishing, life is too short for all that!

Some of us would rather spend that money on other stuff. Also, when you buy a new unit you either hire someone to purge and install it or you invest in yourself, in expanding your skills and knowledge. For example, I don't want to stay in the dark until the electrician decides to come or in the cold until the hvac guy decides my money is worth his trip and crappy apathetic workmanship.

thank you, this sheet you showed and explanation helped allot. thank you keep going

Can I fill R290 to R32 multisplit home AC?
good vid ! jay.

R290 is more efficient but lower capacity
