Callum Moodley lol like for real haha. How do you play at this level?? Do you practice the riff or is this just what he heard in his head and just played??
Whether you like it or not, you’re witnessing someone obssessed and passionate about what they are doing, plus dude has an awesome grasp of theory, his chords are insane. We are witnessing an artist search
That is his major talent imo, a balance between his sheer volume of musical knowledge, historical, technical, theoretical, and his own vibes for lack of a better term.
That's a bass? On steroids? He plays it faster than flea...when I watch him I'm like, what is this?!?!? ...after snapping out of my stupor, I decide this guys amazing!
Lol thats kinda what he is doing musically, right? Distancing himself from the tonic and playing a lot fast high licks with chromaticisms and stuff and then coming back
Whenever Thundercat solos it's like he's blasting off to space and the rest of the band is mission control, watching from afar and trying to keep their shit together.
Imagine the beginners trying to imitate this exactly and on the first stroke they instantaneously combust. And out of their ashes Thundercat appears and says NO!
I love how he reserves the low end for when it's going to count. This is a good example of a bassist using the 6 string range with purpose. His playing feels so intentional and organic.
I encourage anyone who sees this video to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go see Thundercat live if you EVER have the opportunity. I promise he will not disappoint. I'm not afraid to say he is one of the greatest musicians to ever live. We need to enjoy him while we can fr.
So mad that I missed the time he came to my city. I thought he was coming the day after so I didn't go because I had to work and couldn't take off. Little did I know he ended up coming on a day I was off and I literally read the dates wrong and completely missed that opportunity. Still mad about it.
That is soo incredibly untrue. Such bullshit. Jaco was way more influential, so much better in playing the bas, a better solist, a way better composer and way more important on how we nowaday look at the bass and play it.
Technically speaking this video has both of them, though Chris Dave is just messing around with Ronald Bruner Jr's (Thundercat's brother) toms. On the plus side, it has Herbie Hancock. ruclips.net/video/CUoQ_G61e7w/видео.html
he does that classic jaco thing of accidentally outshining everyone on stage on the most overlooked contemporary instrument, therefore making it a lot more impactful and surprising for everyone else
It’s so weird he’s in Suicidal Tendencies, someone in hiphop and funk and wanted to play bass for a crossover band. Not complaining, hell he even plays metal with his signature bass. That’s amazing!
Fire Emblem Is Trash LoL why tf is he in suicidal tendencies, dont get me wrong theyre good but this guy is beyond anything they will ever come even close to playing, holy shit
That bass is EPIC!! Seriously though, thats one nasty bass, and i love his effect chain. It looks like even though its a 6 string it has the same string spacing as a 4 string. I want one
15:30 That face that thundercat makes when he's really killin the bass is the face all us boys make when we take that burning piss we've been holdin in for a while. 😂😂😂
His bandmates must be so grateful to be able to work with him, such BEAST solos can only compliment your own talent if you're able to follow along like they are.
I saw Thundercat live back in August and it was one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. This man is AMAZING!! Definitely one of my favorite bass players of all time
I don't think he will ever get the recognition for one of the best musicians of the Era... they sleep on thundercat cause he's himself and not like alot of artists you see. His contributions to music is definitely slept on, he always has been on some next level shit.
I have to put this in perspective, I can play front to back songs on my bass like Dream Theater - The Dance of Eternity which involve insane movements and time signatures, but its seriously understated not only how fast his scale runs are, but how on time, crisp, clear and how even his attacks are. Its almost machine like. That takes serious practice, dedication, and stamina and I have nothing but respect. Especially on a bass too, I have an easier time playing that fast on guitar than I do bass lol
Y'all want a part 2?
Plumb Drums absolutely!

Thundercat + Cory Henry would hit the correct sequence of notes necessary to unlock interdimensional travel. I've said too much.
Darwin Rivero they actually performed together on ty dolla signs tiny desk concert
haha I was thinking the same
Darwin Rivero 😂😂😂yes!
Bubby Lewis.

Did he go to school for jazz?
@@gabethebabe8187 i don't think so, he grew up in a family full of musicians so maybe that's where his talent started.
One of his brothers is legendary jazz drummer Ron Bruner Jr. His other brother is the keyboardist for The Internet. His whole family is just insane.
@@gabethebabe8187 he did study jazz in highschool so yes he can read music and understand music theory
I dont think his band gets enough credit to keep up and jam while supporting solos. The pace and harmony between them all is insane
👏🏽. . You better tell somebody! These are some VERY abstract beats to keep up with. Its amazing!
One of the best bassists alive. I saw him open for Flying Lotus, he totally stole the show.
exactly what i thought when i saw them play the same night. i had no idea who he was before that night but he blew my mind
Check out mudvaynes bass player Ryan martini he is dope too. They are very different styles though

His live solos are simply godlike. Got to see him in KC and he blew my mind.
He's a real deal musician. Drunk is my favorite album.
Doing all that stuff while he's singing is just unreal, what an Artist he is
