In the year 2024, I hope all these talented artistes are alive and well and teaching this rich cultural expression to new the generation,
I met the man in 2006 and he told me that he's performing a special dance of Songye Chief..This dance is taught only to initiated people who can access a hight state of knowledge of life in Songye Mystic Society. As you can see, the two boys dance only following the coregraphy..anyone can dance anyhow but not them.

my ancestry dna results say many of my ancestors come from Yembe, I found Yembe to be of Songye, Musonye people. may I ask, I see on maps that its was right north of the Luba, if that correct? and is it true that the Kingodom eventually fell due to raids from other tribes and the Swahilli Trade?
I noticed the trade route was along the Kongo River to ports at CAbina, Mpina, Loango Bay, and Sao Tome. Is it possible that your family migrated to Cobinda receintly or a long time ago?
pardon I also see a Kaninda near by in Luba territory. So then are the Sonye and Luba related?

traditionally in songye tribe belly dances are performed by men only... so as to show their talents to the women whom they used to consider like goddess

NYCBG both are correct. the ba refers to people so when you refer to the people of songye you say basongye.
