- The Mathematical Foundations of Indian Rhythm
This series of lessons will help students learn math using visualizations and hands-on exercises based on the Karnatic rhythmic system of South India. Karnatik music involves a deep, embodied understanding of mathematical proportions, symmetry, and linear rhythmic combinations. Through exposure to these creative methods, students will gain a richer understanding of the aesthetics of mathematical principles and use multiple learning modalities to visualize, hear, and feel musical proportions, combinations, and relationships. The lessons also provide a kind of cultural immersion that helps to bolster students' understanding of how math and music are interconnected around the world.
Produced by Rajna Swaminathan, Ganavya Doraiswamy, & Miles Okazaki

Nice, Good Afternoon 🦚, Thank you, 😇
If you play at 1:11 at 0,5x speed, you can hear that the beats not that complex, as you would to expect. But the speed, the technique and the accuracy is here on point and you need years of training to play it this clean.
My respect! I think I want to learn a few things from the language to improve drumming. Thank you for sharing!
It seems deceptively simple, but it's a polyrhythm on top of a 7/4 beat like he explained (look at his hand gestures in the beginning, they are in a cycle of 7, including rests). Not that simple, for me at least.
Skills young jedi
I’ve been playing guitar for like 25 years and only now do I think I get it when it comes to Indian rhythms. I’m going to tinker with this. Ta = 1/4, Ta Ka = 1/8, Ta Ki Ta = 1/8 triplet…. Lol. It’s like the pieces all come together now. I feel so stupid.
Konnakol is so rad
Could be a Korvai in Mishra Chapu .
Mridangam
What is that kind of drum called?
Mridangam
Triple 6 Mafia bought me here. DJ Paul uses Kanokol style drumming for some of the beat patterns in Hip Hop. Music is Universal.
Nice. Is this instrument called the Dholak?
This is the 'Mridangam', related to the Dholak.
when Music mingled with Science and Math...
Music with the understanding or appreciation of it all come from the same place in our brain where math and science come from.
its... "mingled" with science and math since it started. You're a little slow.
@@ZrainF91 science to create sounds and tones, math is literally integral to rhythm, guy is a cro magnon
This video was posted on April fools day ironically the day I broke both my legs in a car wreck
If you play 0:24 at 1.5x speed, it sounds like Manjunath
