Shardara is a city in Kazakhstan, the administrative center of the Shardara district of the Turkestan region.

The length of the reservoir is 80 km, width is 25 kilometers. The reservoir is located in the south of Kazakhstan, on the border with Uzbekistan. Due to its southern position, it is non-freezing.
Area - 783 km², total volume - 5.7 km³, useful volume - 4.2 km³. In 2008, it was reported that the critical maximum was 5.5 km³. In dry years, it may work below the “dead volume”, but when the volume decreases to 0.5 km³, “dirty slurry” remains.
