For all her physical tools, Louisa has zero presence at the net. You can tell that opponents don't respect her as a blocker. This is a common problem for converted indoor players, where blocking is much more about discipline, blocking in space and relying on the defenders behind you, whereas on the sand, blocking is much more intuitive, reading the attack and adapting on the fly, something she visibly struggles with. I wish Louisa could become more assertive, more daring, more aggressive even, and develop a hunger for blocks, because the physical talents are obviously there. Other than Brandie Wilkerson, there may not be a stronger, more forceful player on the tour. She now has to find a way to translate these athletic gifts into palpable success.
I think this is a great summary. I just watched the rio 2016 final again and Kira's block there was exactly like this: inituitive, reading the opponent, and adapting. Louisa seems to be such a happy and competitive personality. But I think it won't be enough time for her to catch up. That her setting is also worse doesn't help.
@@SadDetonator I agree with you in regard to the intuitive playing at the net, but to say she has zero presence at the net is a vast exaggeration! She has immense presence at the net because she is hungry for getting her hands on the ball and takes up a lot of space. You can tell how intimidating she is to most players because even the best attackers (Kloth, Gottardi, Agatha) make mistakes they usually not make in offense because of her. That’s not saying that there isn’t room for improvement, as you said, she has to play much more intuitive, work on her pulls and second ball blocking, but otherwise she’s doing an amazing job at the net. That and her extreme serving pressure is what already puts her up there with some of the best.
@@SadDetonator a win doesn’t necessarily define good blocking skills. You can win without any blocks, as well as you can lose with several blocks… but to answer your question: Nuss/Kloth, Stam/Schoon, Agatha/Rebecca, Müller/Tillmann, Esmée/Zoé, Vergé-Dépré/Mäder…
Yeah, I think her partner is quite new to beach volleyball and will have to improve to win a big tournament like Olympics or World Chamionships..........
@@mannyortegaidk if you mean Lippmann or Ludwig is new but Ludwig is an Olympian and have won numerous events. She was one of the greatest defenders and even has a move named after her. Lippmann on the other hand is new to beach, at least only 1.5-2y.

Stupid question but if anyone find this and knows what shorts the US team member is wearing, pls share I will buy them ASAP 😅
Watching lipman set is a frustrating experience
It’s getting better but not in time for the Olympics.
Agree. Women could Play with a smaller Ball - Like allready done in Basketball or Handball. This would facilitate their setting...

Her blocking is worse.
@@SadDetonatorno, that’s bs.

Brandie & Taryn Kloth; extremely effective at the net

Tell me a quality team (say, top-20) they beat because of Louisa's blocking. I would like to re-watch that match to see what I missed.

such a tight game. unlucky for the germans, could have been a victory for them also. strong fight.
