- in this video, we will be examining why the MIG 23 is the best jet at the top tier in War Thunder.
Now, this video has many clips in it of me showing off why it is so good.

IRST, known as Infrared search-and-track, allows you lock on targets via heat. Mainly effective behind the target where the heat is emitted, but also has a strong all aspect lock from 6KM depending on conditions met.
Use of this IRST allows you to effectively track and lock a target for your R-24T missiles, similar to SARH. Easily distracted by flares, they are less distracted at high altitudes and, if launched from high altitudes to targets on the deck, you will yield a positive result of a kill. Dangerous to use in furballs, aim for targets that are alone and not in a fight.
The strategy is effectively stealth. You won’t be spotted from a high altitude and the target will have no idea a missile is after them. Additionally, the game’s mechanics only allow you to spot missiles that are still burning the motors. If you launched this at a high altitude, and the burner motor finishes at 7km, this missile will be invisible and unable to be spotted by the target.
I love using the R24T for air superiority in ground RB. CAS planes hate this one simple trick.

@@tothedome566 This makes no sense. None of that affects the IRST tactics and it still in good effect with the Mig-29. I’d say it aged very well thanks to to the more lethal R27T!

I don’t think that the MLA is the best, I think I would give that to the f14, but if we remove the tomcat and decide what’s the best jet, we’ll it’s hard for me to say because the best jet isn’t usually best at everything, when it comes to BVR I think that title goes to the Kai and 4J (tomcat not included), dog fighting department the MLA,MLD,Viggen,j7e are all good. The 23’s are amazing dog fighters but don’t have much nose authority as something like a Mig21 or J7e. Speed department is the kfir and MLA and MLD. Some other things can be said but I’ll leave them out. It can’t be just said that “this is the best plane because I do amazing at it” and you have more experience in it than other top tier jets or it fits your play style more that’s why you enjoy it. So to me it’s hard to say what’s the best jet at top tier but for arguments sake I’ll say that the MLD,MLA are the best (tomcat not included) all-rounders.

@@Turtl1938 personally I think they are the same exact planes the MLD if it’s a later model might be a bit faster they just have slightly different names because one is Russian and the other is German. I don’t have the MLD yet I will post a vid when I get it. They both have same missiles and guns though.

Tbh I think you know the aircraft well and know how to fly I think the F5 E is ONE Of the best top tiers in the game. I’ve taken a few mirage 2000s, most of them were rate fights
The F-5E is fun to fly on occasion but it is certainly not one of the best top tier aircraft in game. It lacks any meaningful long range missiles, be them IR or SARH, and it lacks the speed to control any engagements save for those against slower strike aircraft. It's armament is also limited. It shines in a furball or dogfight but is caught lacking almost everywhere else.
F5 is a ratefight god but everything else it’s mid lol
this is reason why i dont play top tiers in 2022

I would put Mig 27k a lot lower it’s not as fast and it doesn’t have the same missiles. But I think the MLD for sure

@@gusty844 that wasn't what we were talking about, nor was it the point. The main focus was the sticks of ram, not the types of missiles.

Watching you not use the irst tracker to radar slave the missiles is very annoying cause the plane's irst can't lock flares so you don't have to try and relock a plane after they drop flares

@@Skillz_Xp all the mig 23's including the mf and m have an irst camera built-in to the plane, it's basically a glorified heatseeker in the plane. You can radar slave missiles like the r60's and r24t that you are using. The irst camera also can't be flared so it stays on the target 100% of the time and because it tracks heat it can't be messed with by ground clutter. Also you have to use the bvr mode to lock things but it doesn't have trouble locking things close, you can literally lock things 2m away from you during takeoff and 30 km away with 0 trouble. Normally if a plane flares you have to turn the missile seeker off, turn it back on and wait for the missile to lock the plane again, with the irst cause it can radar slave missiles and doesn't get flared, the moment the target stops flaring you can fire a missile cause the lock never leaves the plane. This is one of the 23's most powerful tool cause it also doesn't give the enemy a warning

The MLD is better than the MLA it has better radar and wing slats which help you get your gun onto the target faster, it doesn’t drastically impact its rate fighting performance to where it’s a life or death difference. Just simply don’t have trash aim to where the dogfight draws out to an energy fight. And in game the MF is superior to the MLA because of its R60MKs

@@deutschlandgaming407 it become bad when you opponents have overpowered mig-23 or 27 with magic missiles or frontal view missiles and you don't have a shit. Aim-9e are trash. No counterasures, aim7 doesn't work, you have to lock high altitude targets, everyone is near ground, no Doppler radar and a lot of other shit missing making the match frustrating and unbalanced.

@@deutschlandgaming407 at high altitude, otherwise the F4C get melted by A5C, mig21 SPS-K, etc that get access to superior missiles and flares, so not really the F4C isn't god, it's actually a pain to fly in 10.0 without flares

Been seeing this comment a lot but someone else in the comment section has shared there thoughts as to why the slats really aren’t that great and I have found that the radar doesn’t matter to much as I don’t use the radar missiles.

Yea I just spam them half the time because it really doesn't matter too much to me at least. If I average 2-4 kills a game I'm satisfied.

Unpopular opinion but MF is superior
Ngl i got the 23 MF and i was debating to sell it ( it was right after the event) and i couldn't even dogfight in it! After getting bored of ground i started air and pretty much destroy anything in my path
I unfortunately don’t have the MF unlocked but the only thing it has that is better is the R-60ms I believe and tbh I don’t like them that much. But haven’t flown it so I wouldn’t be able to give a better opinion.

lol, MLD better than MLA, MLD have leading edge
It depends. The MLD bleeds more speed while turning than the MLA because of the leading edge slats. But the MLA pilot can take advantage of this trait and can stick to the 2 circle fight, making the MLA untouchable. I've beaten skilled MLD pilots with the MLA simply because of this. The MLA also has a better chance of beating the F14 than the MLD, since the MLA has better energy retention than the F14 because of no leading edge slats, while the MLD bleeds more than the F14. If you play the MLA right, you can beat F14's and MLD's easily.
ive outrated 2 tomcats at the same time with the mla but you have to manage energy really well
