Angelina was singing in a Jaz style that made it seem her voice was on the edge of her capabilities but it's far from the truth. . If she wanted she could have sung that song a lot differently. Here She is at 6 years old using a different style proving my point. ruclips.net/video/nxu0thekm-M/видео.html proving she is even more talented because you will realize she was singing in a style that fit the song and not her only way of singing. You even said she didn't sing like that at 9 years old. Its not that her style changed because of her age, its because she sang in a way to fit the song.
The next song on NGT was I'm a Fool to Wany You. She sang it
a capella and she did the same song when she was older. She has sung Fly Me To the Moon at 8 and a few times as she got older. On NGT she sang Summertime as her last song.(at 8) If you like older ones. She also sang that at 10. You might check out Billie Holiday's version of this song to truly see how amazing Angelina is at 7. This is not her "style". It's the style of the song. When that needs changing, she changes it. It's a Man's World, Every Time We Say Goodbye, At Last, Feeling Good all ask for something a little different, if you're looking for old school songs. Her covers of Adele, Lana del Rey. Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, etc. etc. .sound more contemporary. Styles change, her voice changes (although it's still always Angelina), the genre changes and she sings it the way she thinks it should be sung. Stay on this train and awe and amazement will follow. There are so many. She's not nervous; she's anxious to sing. Music is her world and she its Queen.

She is not only a wonderful vocalist, she becomes more and more a composer, texter, arranger. She is like a musicbox with over 130 Songs the next 6 years and we are waiting this year for her new Album with her own Songs. I am sure this will be great 🤗😍💓
You guys should listen to Billie Holiday sing this song and you will be blown away at how much Angelina sounds like Billie which is why the judges were so shocked.
Respectfully, because I agree with where you're coming from, but she does what she does with most songs she sings and interprets them her way... And it's an amazingly good talent.

You need to watch her "I put a spell on you" ... no, first watch screamin' Jay Hawkins original (get past the uncomfortable portrayal and really understand the lyrics he is saying), then a couple of covers of the song... THEN watch her sing it at 9 years old... you have know idea. It will blow your mind. And I totally agree when she's older she's doing the pop thing more in the more commercial appearances... which sucks because she is pure soul jazz blues.

I’m not sure if that was meant to be taken light-heartedly or seriously. 😂 I’m curious, what genre do you think she will fit into? What exactly IS pop? Is Ed Sheeran pop? Taylor Swift? Lana Del Rey or Adele? Norah Jones? Amy Winehouse? Aretha Franklin, The Beatles? The Righteous Brothers? I personally have no use for the genrefication of pop music because I just find it to be divisive and because it and ends up forcing artists into pre-defined boxes. But I have no problem with the idea that if we were to classify what Angelina is aiming for, it will most likely be some form of jazz/blues/soul-infused pop music. I don’t think she’s going to be limited to performing with jazz quartet’s at local jazz clubs. I suspect there is a reason she signed with Republic Records. I’m going to go out on a limb and infer that at least part of the reason is that she would like to become popular. I do t see anything wrong with that.

The Billie holiday version is not the original it was originally composed by a Hungarian man named Rezső Seress

She is NEVER nervous when she sings; has no idea what that word means. Check out "Wicked Game" (ruclips.net/video/5IAMF4FDfw4/видео.html) and "I'd rather Go Blind" (ruclips.net/video/pK8mMXQb3_I/видео.html) for later examples of her "jazz" voice. But, you need to understand that she is quite literally ithe girl with a thousand voices. If you think after hearing a few of her songs you know how she sings, you are SO wrong.

She song 4 songs on NGT, this was the first one. She is better in the second song, after the 3. song everybody know that she would winn the competision and in the final song she was already a star. She devoloped in a few mounts what "normal" persons would have needed years to do.

Hey Kevin. As part of my ongoing effort to make as many people here hate me as possible 😃, I was going to copy and paste my reply to a similar comment (about pop music) from Clyde Trowbridge. Let me just say that it just seems to me that if the label of “pop music” can apply to Adele or Amy Winehouse or the Beatles, there’s no shame in it applying to Angelina. If he chooses to go straight jazz because that’s what she loves to do, then that’s awesome. But it’s not compatible with the kind of success/popularity that I think she’s looking for as indicated by her signing with Republic Records, going on AGT champs, etc. It would also far more limiting than the range of musical styles that she has shown interest in by covering songs on her own channels. Think about it - how many of the songs she has covered were pure jazz songs and how many of them would fall into the category of “pop music”. That doesn’t make her performances of those songs any less genius. “Love and Beautiful”, “Wicked Game”, “Stay, “California Dreaming”... Even her own original, “Shield”. Does falling within the genre of “pop music” mean any of those songs are unworthy of Angelina’s talents?
I believe that whatever Angelina does, it’s going to be because that’s what inspires/moves her, and ultimately the label we apply to that is kind of a irrelevant. I also believe that whatever she does is going to reflect her genius and qualify as art. And I also don’t think that classifying it as “pop music” or anything else will ultimately make any difference to that.

I think I'd like some cheese too! Maybe a nice light Yorkshire gouda to go with my morning coffee? I'm from Canada but spend a lot of time in Bedfordshire and have been known to head north up the M1 to Durham (but sadly without stopping in Yorkshire so far).

Great reaction as always guys. If you really listen to her newer uploads and when she is older, you hear clearly that she is always singing with soul and emotions in her voice. She always makes her own version of songs. I would absolutely not say she has moved on to pop, she has just been covering more pop songs and different genres while growing to try out different things and styles to develop. She was mostly covering jazz and old songs before. She still has the jazz style and plenty of soul in her voice and I doubt she will be a pop singer. Its the jazz and soul thas closest to her heart. Regardless of which style she will end up singing, she will be different than any other singers out there.

Hey guys, if you watch her next song,' I'm A Fool To Want You', Then she does a studio recording of it 3-4 years later. You will get an idea of how a song progress' over time. Another song you have reacted to is, 'I Put A Spell On You' she sang that in concerts for the following 2-3 years before she moved on. She does grow as a musician over time and I think there are some that want her to continue being that little snaggly-toothed innocent that shook us to our core. But that's not how this works because reality keeps moving us along. And because of that we must keep moving with it. And because we move we get Angelina re-divining a song like, 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Though I don't have that much time left, where it comes to this young lady and music, I'm looking ahead.

Billie Holiday was a jazz singer in 30's. She was Angelina's favorite. I don't know if you ever heard Billie but she was a superb jazz singer.

The volume of these two is clearly higher than Angelina's.

In an interview Angelina wanted to do this when she was 5 but had to wait until she was 7. Her grandmother likes jazz & turned her on to jazz. BTW you two chat too much.
What every body is responding to is not that she can sing the song, it is her ability to deliver the emotional impact of the song. What seven year old understands these emotions let alone be able to sing them so convincingly? Well I do not know about all of them, but I know one, Angelina Jordan. All of you who are just becoming aware of Angelina have an interesting trip ahead of you. You are going to hear a singer handle different styles of music with aplomb. As you listen to her, as she gets older you might think is she going to all of a sudden break out and start singing a Taylor Swift songs. Well for one the song would have to be interesting, something Ms. Swift hasn't done in a while. Also if Angelina would bring us a song like that, it would have gone through the Angelina-rator and been condensed to whatever meaningful message there is and she would be singing it with the music she has been hearing in that beautiful mind of hers. And we would love it because that is what Angelina feels all the time. Her love of family, music and people in general is how she processes's information. Angelina is a once in a lifetime entity. I just look forward to whatever she sings next, because it is going to move you. Where will it move you to? Well that is half the fun, the other half is trying to figure out how she used that music to move us. Much love to Angelina, thank you for moving us.

You mentioned that she has moved to more "pop star", but that is only because you haven't seen enough yet. Of the 131 songs on record, I would say no more than 10% of them would make you think "pop singer". The variety of songs and styles she sings is quite vast. Her pop stuff is awesome and may be what pushes her career forward, but it's her non-pop stuff that really sets her apart from everyone else. I could give you examples of her sounding both "pop" and "not-pop" just with her first 5 original songs....

But if you have some evidence to the contrary, I will certainly consider it. But until I see something that proves otherwise, Angelina wrote Shield ;) As far as "above the water"... I don't really say they wrote it specifically for her vocals. I only say that about "A song for A" because that one is a verifiable fact.
