One thing that was always intriguing to me is why the natives of Florida didn't go out and settle islands in the Caribbean, but there's a lot of evidence that pre-colonial South Florida was deeply connected culturally and materially with Caribbean polities and people whereas North Florida was more similar to its Mississippian neighbors in the Southeast. It would be quite interesting if there was evidence of Muskogean languages being spoken in Cuba, but I doubt something like that would ever preserve in the historical record

There weren't just people walking ...their were water ways and coastal routes down the west coast all the way to the tip of south america

What is meant by the term 'slash and burn' agriculture?
I'm not to sure, I'm just regurgitating what I remember it's with agriculture it was used with the indigenous people they'll plant stuff reap it and clear the field the slash terms and the burn term is literally burning the field they believed burning the field would fertilize it, it is also used on the sugar cane plantation they'll grow the cane, clear the old stocks and burn the field and re-plant the cane...
They would do this until the field is no longer fertilized and move on to another spot the indigenous did this I'm not sure of the enslaved did this with the cane

My grandfather is Trinidadian Carib and my DNA results showed that my ancestors come from Kenya, Mesoamerica and the Andes! Oh boy, it's been a journey learning about the movement of the Indigenous people and how they got to the Caribbean Islands, and then somehow they got all mixed up and made me. So fascinating.
