So, I am back on track after the laptop breakage. It was hard to catch up as I was running back 2 back photography workshops as well. But now, we return! Hope you like this one?
James, I like and respect that you seem to feel the images well up from within. We don't do the same stuff the same way; however, I draw energy and rejuvenated drive in what you do. I get that sense that if we learn to listen and feel, the image as a concept appears then seeks to escape through the back of the lens. Thanks for turning up.
You nailed it on the inspiration ... how could you not be with the depth of passion coming across loud and strong. Losing yourself in a location is one of the joys of this genre, and one aspect that keeps drawing me. So looking forward to engaging soon and feeding off of your energy 👍
I have the same passion for abandoned living spaces. Would that I had access to the unique structures you visit, so well preserved for the most part, and so little, if any grafitti. You have my envy.
Thank you. I mean this place isn't usual of course, there are guards and keyholders - it could be visited by family members, I assume - at any time. Thanks for watching 😊
Well James, what you are talking about right here, is what makes photography so interesting after all, regardless of the genre. Beatifully executed, thanks Roland from good old Germany.
Fascinating, thanks. I like that you can articulate an overarching motive for shooting the kind of photos you do. It is important to me for 2 reasons. 1) I have to order my large collection of old photos into a meaningful pattern for the next generation that do not share my memories and motives. 2) When I go out to shoot the photos of this old town I live in, it is an old love story that I want to find the means for expression in photos. Will look into your other photos.
@JamesKerwin Thanks for your interest, but my photos are all embarrassingly bad. However, I do use a simple recipe to get family and friends to watch them. I take a walk around town, shooting some 100 photos of people and buildings, select the best third, polish them in Lightroom and make a kind of story out of them, ordered into a slide show. I then add some fitting music, jazz or classical, let LR assign the right timing and export an mp4. I run it in kiosk mode or send it to far away friends. None of the photos will have high class, not even for an amateur, but all in all, family and friends do not get bored (or are too polite to say so). Whether it is the photos, the story or the music that makes it worthwhile to watch, I need not know. Still, I now and then take hints from pros at YT to come up with new ideas.
Another great location ❤ I always get funny looks when I tell people what I photograph 🤣 they just think dusty old buildings can't be much to look at till you show them some photos then they change their mindset.. hopefully I will be trying to get out to either the Cappadocia or south Cyprus trip next year as not much planned trip wise.. once the flights are released for 2025 I can work out and hopefully book a space..
You are welcome anytime - 2025 announcements are coming in the next few weeks. I have been trying to figure out all my dates recently as I have 12 people booked to come to Cuba for 2 scouting trips and it will take away an entire month from me, so I have to be clever in 2025. 😊 Cheers for watching again. J
A question (and I apologize if you've covered this in a video and I missed it). How do you deal with the language barrier when trying to get access to buildings in the many countries that you visit? I had assumed you had a fixer to help in each place, but this video makes it clear you are on your own. Thanks for all the great videos.
To be honest so many people in so many countries speak English now. It's not like it is a rare language, however I do speak a small bit of Turkish now. I also use Google Translate where needed. But at this place, the lady spoke English. I love going alone honestly. Its my peace away from others.

Well I'll be. A fellow photographer with the same last surname as me. And he even has similar shooting interests. 🙂
Amazing! Nice to meet you. :-)

👍
Looking forward to it. Should be fantastic 👌
Seems a popular video - so that's great news. :)
Well said, I can't argue with you whatsoever. You'll know when it's right! Lovely location & finished photography.
Absolutely - thanks for watching

Great vid - nice to hear a bit of the backstory.
More to come - glad you enjoyed it.
Fascinating, thanks for sharing your expertise in this demanding genre !
Glad you enjoyed it! Pleasure 🙏
As usual James two excellent images and a very interesting location and subject, well done.
Many thanks! Glad that you enjoyed it.
Very inspiring video, thank you for sharing your work with us and expressing the passion you feel towards it.
I appreciate that! It was a pain to pull together actually, struggling a little with the new microphones (as the sound seems all over the place).

Amazing feedback. I love the story of your works - can I see them somewhere?
