Ancient cartographers were notorious for putting in "fake" islands as sort of a signature of works so as to stop plagiarism. You would see other people's claimed maps but with the same fake island on it and knew it was a copied map. Not saying all or any of these are, just that it was a thing they used to do.

It's commonly thought now that Glastonbury Tor (hill) was once entirely surrounded by water in the 6th Century time of Arthur before the land was eventually terra-formed & drained in the Medieval period for crop-planting. If true the Tor most certainly would've looked like an island in the middle of a lake back then.

    • @the_unrepentant_anarchist.
      @the_unrepentant_anarchist. 10 месяцев назад

      What??
Glastonbury Tor hasn't been surrounded by water for over *six thousand years* now, so when you say "it's *commonly thought* that... etc." who exactly is "thinking" that?
      No-one.
At least not the people who are capable of critical thinking- hell, even a quick Google search would tell you that's a load of horse shit, and it doesn't take a Ph.D to use Google now does it.
So the only people "commonly thinking" the Tor was an island fourteen hundred years ago are idiots, who obviously aren't capable of 'thought', so what they "think" is beyond irrelevancy.
Would you like me to show you how to type stuff into your search bar?
It might help you to not look like such a spaz the next time you're tempted to post complete and utter shite in comment sections.
Or would you need me to explain *what* a "search bar" is first...
      🙄

Likewise with foxes fighting. I live in rural England, and the sound of foxes fighting at night is terrifying; Screams and screeches that sound exactly like human women being attacked, that dash back and forth across the landscape at incredible speed, at first in front of you, then behind you, then hundreds of feet away. I've heard that the word "apple" was used for any fruit that didn't have a specific name at the time. So, for example, the "Apple" from the tree in the Garden of Eden wasn't actually an apple as we know it today, but written in text was named an "apple" because the writer didn't know what specific fruit it was. So if you read about "apples" in historic text or when referring to legend, just be aware it could be any fruit that they couldn't identify and just called it an "apple" for ease of use.

It is right at the beginning of the book, it is really easy to read, if you haven't read it why would you feel qualified to tell us what it said.

Many memories of our ancient forefathers went back in time to much older sagas and legends from all that islands that existed in the Atlantic and Mediterraneum, when the sealevel was up to 160 meters lower... This was in the period of ca. 12800 to 11600 years before us, when comet-debris caused the biblical flood and huge cataclysms in this Younger Dryas age... Former known isles sank under this terrific Tsunamis. At the northwestcoast of France you still see stonerows going into the sea... The Northsea didn't exist before this Megaflood, it were inhabited plains with grasland, rivers, and lakes with Mammuts... And on ancient maps of the Aegean sea you see many isles that are now under water... Imagine how many ruins should be found there...
We need hundreds of brave divers for all that research work at the submerged continent shelfs. Like Franck Goddio, James Ballard.

"History is written by the victor", is another way of saying "we only have one side of the story". Propaganda and the preferred story is often what gets passed down as history. In Egypt there are hieroglyphics that boasts of an Egyptian military victory over the Hittites, that restored peace. Decades latter we found Hittites recording of the same event saying Egypt had agreed to pay a tribute for the Hittites to end the war and the attacks.

The Bayeux Tapestry is largely mythical, designed to affirm William's legitimacy as King of England rather than depict historical events. However any story relating to Harold Godwinson surviving Hastings/Senlac is of very dubious provenance. Monarchs don't vanish into obscurity and any rumour pertaining to Harold's survival would have been ruthlessly pursued by William's barons until its perpetrator was very publicly brought to account. Harold was also a very powerful Anglo-Saxon Earl prior to ascending to the throne and, as history shows, that kind of power is addictive.

First time ever I hear of Morgana as the ruler of Avalon, and I’ve read and heard lots about Arthurian lore….and based on that, I can tell you that’s probably the invention of some fiction writer - Avalon is King Arthur’s holy sanctuary, the place where as per the legends he’s supposedly waiting (some myths say in sleep) until the world needs him to return, whereas Morgana is (in basically the whole lore) one of if not his main antagonist. Unless Morgana ruled Avalon before Arthur’s death, it’s quite unlikely (I’d say almost impossible) that Arthur’s resting sanctuary would be ruled by his greatesr foe.

I like that the French noblewoman's MAID was also exiled to Demon Island. Says so much about what was wrong with society. And that the woman was rescued but her maid died there. Bloomin' 'eck.

I think this black rock is a kind of gateway. If we could use the earth's magnetic field as an elevator to lift cargo to space thats where it would be. I think the black rock title is a metaphor for it being an elevator or doorway to space.

That one dude that supposedly flew over the poles said there was a deep ocean in the north pole 10000 ft down and in the south there are plateaus 10000 ft high, but we will never really know what's at the north pole it could be that black rock

most myths/stories are based on a real thing. but things got twisted/added etc everytime it was told by someone else over the centuries. and off course they didnt had a word/knowledge for all the things. for example: a modern day lighter in 1500 would be called magic. someone with a flamethrower would mostlikely be called a god that could shoot fire in ancient times. simple "modern" day things that would be magic/godly in those days

7:38 looked on google maps, and Melville Island and Byam Martin Island are near Australia. Not only that, but are not in the same configuration as shown. Nor could they ever have geological drifted away from what Dark5 shows to google map. So someone is lying.
