Nowadays, many families do organise such family gathering, some either annually or biannually. My family gathering is biannually, but because of covid - it was postponed two meets already. Hopefully, we will able to continue the tradition (meeting, gift exchange, games and fun family activities) in next year Raya.

Coming weekend Saturday and Sunday usually there will be Hari Raya open house every where We celebrate hari raya for the whole month of 'Shawal' which is Muslim calendar.. it's not official but just tradition and culture for some Malaysian folks

Each year the Raya celebrations will move back about 2 weeks each year. It means if Raya 2022 is on the first week of May, then for Raya 2023 is will be around mid April 2023. This is because its based on lunar calendar rather than sun calendar. This also means in few years time the Raya and Chinese New Year will be celebrated on with one day apart. The last time it happened was from 1996 until 1998. This is called Kongsi Raya or shared raya
Riding motorbikes. Have you ever seen schoolgirls and female university students (in uniform, which means a skirt) in Thailand ride on the back of motorbike taxis? Sidesaddle! 😁 Looks really precarious.. Those tents - there's a whole business of people renting out tents for gatherings and such. They'll show up in a truck with the tent and poles, and lights and ceiling fans, and set it up. And take it down afterwards, too. A common sight, especially in villages. If that was laksa Johor, it's very different from the Penang sort. I really like Laksa Johor, but don't like Penang Laksa that much, especially when it's too spicy, like it is in most mall food courts. The "banana heart" - jantung pisang (because it's heart shaped) - it's actually the flowers of the banana tree. You usually see it at the end of a bunch of bananas, it's usually purple, and there are layers of immature bananas or banana flowers inside it. The bananas in the bunch started out inside the the "heart", and as they get bigger the covering layers fall away. When the bananas become ripe, there's still the heart at the end of the stalk, with immature bananas inside it. 7:11 - that actually looks like eggplant.. 😁Daging Salai is smoked beef.
