    I built almost the exact same thing about 6 months ago. 2 72v EMBX batteries, a qs 138 90h motor and a 430a controller. With fully charged batteries we are at about 82v discharging 430a nominally that also gives us bursts of about 60hp at 45kw. It is an absolute MONSTER.

    Just for your info, that's not a shifter kart. It's a standard 2-stroke kart. Shifters have a whole lot more kit to them, a shifter for one. Clutch handle, three brakes instead of one (one on each front wheel and a third on the rear axle). For the power and weight you have in there a three-brake setup wouldn't be a terrible idea.

    the controller has three wires going to the motor ...reverse two of the wires to change rotation

    • @tgif9735
      @tgif9735 11 месяцев назад +33

      Yes it's a 3 phase brushless motor, but it's "sensored" so you cannot just swap the phase wires. It will smoke the hall sensors and fry the motor.. You have to go into the UI or app and change the settings to reverse the motor direction.

    • @Todd_Gerhardt
      @Todd_Gerhardt 11 месяцев назад +3

      @tgif9735 not sure on these but alot of ebikes u can swap 2 on the motor and one of the same colors and one opposite color from what u swapped on the motor fir the hall sensor and itll work too

    • @IRONCaptainPanic
      @IRONCaptainPanic 10 месяцев назад +2

      @Todd_Gerhardt those are Sensorless Brushless motors, Sensorless Brushless motors don't have the hall effect sensors and the circuit for the sensors used for finding the position of the rotor, so reversing the 2 out of the 3 phase wires has no consequences besides reversing the phase direction for power input. Sensored Brushless motors such as this one use hall sensors to determine the position of the rotor so it can start up and run smoother at lower rpms and be more precise with power delivery eliminating the cogging effect Sensorless Brushless motors have when at lower rpms or when trying to move from a standstill. but because of the sensors, you can't swap the wires to change the direction without de-syncing the sensor circuit from the phase wires and shorting it out making the motor and esc useless. So hence why sensored Brushless motors and esc's can't just be reversed by swapping phase wires like Sensorless systems, it confuses and shorts out the sensor system, each hall effect sensor has its assigned designated phase wire.

    I just saw your video today that you did several years ago and you took my advice of going electric on this project. A smaller sprocket on axle produces increased speed but less torque. I would mount motor on rubber spacers to reduce noise. Also shielding the motor will reduce noise for quieter ride. Again, I was right by going electric. Sorry you live in NY with 6-months of winter.

    Few small things:
    - You don't have a keyway on the sprocket to avoid spinning the sprocket on the axle. Google "kart axle keyway".
    - Lube the chain before every drive or you are buying new sprockets. Also the bearings, ball joints, front hub bearings.
    - Buy a chain guard, if the chain breaks it could hurt.
    Nice build!

    Just seems like an awful lot of weight to position so far rearwards and laterally. That's gotta adversely affect how the frame behaves and grip/drive is made. Plus there's little mass up front to act as a fulcrum like point for the roll centre, to be in/near the centre....

    Alright, I figured it out. You have a misunderstanding of Electro's model numbers. they have a "70H" and a "90H" kit. This refers to the overall length of the motor, not its power output. The kit you have is a 90H kit with the EM-260 controller that produces a peak power of 25kW/33hp. not 100hp.

      @@jscruz2These motors are deliberately under rated by the manufacturer as a way to slip under the radar so to speak. Its clearly not processing anywhere near the claimed amount by the video. But, these motors are much more capable than their rating suggests. The qs138 70h can handle 30kw whereas the 90h version can do about 35kw at 72v before encountering heat problems.
      There are no standard regulations for motor power at the moment, meaning its down to the manufacturers discretion. However in the last couple of years, certain ebike motor kit manufacturers have decided to take advantage of this and made ridiculous claims on the power level of their products. There's a mid drive cyc motor kit that the company claims can handle 5kw. It's a bullsh1t claim. The magnets are tiny and phase wires cannot handle the amount of current required to make 5kw even at 72v without heat damage.
