@@alicialacroix well, I didn’t have a drawer full of metal utensils when I started figuring out cooking healthy meals at home (instead of going out to eat all the time). I didn’t care for plastic utensils, but prefer wooden spoons, bamboo spatulas, someone gifted me a Thai turning spatula that is made out of teak. They are each well made, and I take care to keep them clean & properly worked in oil after use. I hope to have them a long time.

Pela really annoys me with discontinuing phone cases for older phone models. I keep phones for over 5 years (until they literally do not work anymore). I've never bought from Pela because of this. Also, toothpaste tabs are just not good. Why can't a sustainable brand make toothpaste in a metal or glass jar?
I actually love my reusable produce bags, but I wouldn't buy the same ones if I could do it over again. They're made of a thin plastic mesh, and I got them from Sprouts. They're very lightweight so the additional cost is super minimal. They've lasted me five years, so that's one plus.

Another problem wirh most toothpaste tabs is that they contain citrus acid, something known to degrade enamel. Its very hard to find a brand that contains fluoride and doesn't have citrus acid.

Top tip if you've a bees wax wrap that you're not using....Use them for extra grip when opening jars, to hold on to the lid. I have a tool from the car that I can use to open jars, but this is far easier and works most of the time. I rarely use mine when out of the house any more, same reasons as you, but I use them when I'm out of the house and I don't want to be left with a container. I also wrap the food in a cloth napkin first and then the bees wrap, helps keep it clean.

I bought my Lomi second-hand for about $200 from Offer Up when I moved in with my family last year. I had access to a compost site where I used to live, but I moved to a different state and the city does not have a place to drop off or a city program. I saw how much food waste my family was making and knowing how difficult change is to them, I knew if I was going to get them to compost, it had to be super easy for them. We run the Lomi a few times a week and the filters were just not lasting as long. It's not sustainable to buy so many filters, so we change it once or twice a year. It does get smelly but we are ok with it because once the cycle is don, the smell goes away. I do think the idea of lomi is great and it works for us, I also love my Pela phone case, but I agree that Pela pushes consumerism, at the end of the day, they are a business making items that should be reusable, instead of disposable and they probably feel that the only way to keep going is by pushing new things to, keep that steady flow of money coming in.

I purchased GF Collective sweatpants used on Depop like 4 years ago, wear them on a weekly basis, and haven’t had a single tear or seam issue! Sounds like it might have switched manufacturers and that’s so sad 😞

The Last Swab is AWFUL! I It does nothing and is just useless garbage. Toothpaste tablets are trash too. I actually like my beeswax wraps but never use them on dairy or meat products. You have to warm them from the heat of your hands for the wax to melt slightly so they stick together. I'm sure some are just made better than others as well. I bought mine off of Etsy and have at them for at least 3 years now.

I'm a toothpaste tab fan for many of the reasons you don't like them; I really don't like the foamy feeling of regular toothpaste and find the flavours too strong for that matter. Thankfully I do have toothpaste tabs that contain fluoride (I'm team fluoride too) and the fact they are more comfortable for me has made it much easier to look after my teeth. Totally relate to thinking of them as mints, it took ages for me to get my head around them lol.
My least favourite swap is also teeth related. I really struggle with floss so at my dentist's suggestion I used interdental brushes. I swapped to some bamboo ones but they are awful. They would break whilst using them! and they just didn't do a good job. So I suffered with them for months before finally giving up. I'm still to find a sustainable flossing solution that works for me.

It's useful to hear your opinion about these products, based on how well they've worked for you. Some that I like are, stretchy silicone covers for bowls (great), and putting a steel tray on top of baking dishes works well, rather than using foil. I sometimes use a mixture of tahini and peppermint oil to clean my teeth - it foams well, there's no fluoride in it, but it makes a good toothpaste if you run out. It's great that you reach so many people.

Thank you!! Ok I like my Pela case but I hated the little holder thing. It started to rip less than a week after I got it (birthday present for myself). I did the same thing with supergluing it but it just started to rip around the glue! Eventually the whole flexible part came off and now there is this little bit of the bottom part of the grip stuck on my phone case. Also I’m disappointed they didn’t have my size case (11 pro) in a lot of some of the newer styles. I would love to have options when I eventually need a new case.
Also! For a sustainable company they sure do produce a ton of new products all the time and are constantly having sales. I use my phone for years and don’t plan on getting a new one for a while so idk it rubs me the wrong way with the fast past of the sales

Some of these are things I love, but what works for people is different :) I LOVE my produce bags... mine are made from recycled lace curtains, so they don't add appreciably to the weight, and I store them in a small pencil case that is easy to take in my shopping tote (I have calico ones I made at home for the produce store, but the lace ones are better for fruit and veggies as they're lighter). I can get things like cherries package free in them. I never understood the silicone swabs...my main use is for colouring my brows, and I use a normal swab (I bought a 200 pack before going low waste, and since I only use a few per year they'll last for the rest of my life). I use wax wraps I made with cheese wax (food grade petroleum wax) just for wrapping my cheeses, and for that they work super well... but I never really got behind the beeswax wraps... just seems easier to continually reuse the same sandwich bag or container. I use my silicone straws - I'm a straw biter so run the risk of accidentally damaging my teeth with the metal ones, would not buy those again if I could go back.

I started using toothpaste tabs because the majority of toothpaste has sodium lauryl sulfate in them and I'm allergic to that. I use GloBoid whitening toothpaste tabs with fluoride. You can get them in a small glass jar with metal lid and then buy refills. Unpaste is another tab I've tried that are good, however they come in a biodegradable package that doesn't seal.
