The part when she hands the phone back and changes her mind about Nana taking the grandkids to the movies. Translation: She called her mom to complain about these badass kids and how she grounded him and Nana said she needs to pick her battles and offers to talk to him about respect instead and you get to have a break.

Same!!! My dad would lose his shit over something silly and the next day there would be an extra quarter for my lunch money. Little did he know that my lunch money budget didn't quite cover my lunch and the quarter didn't change anything but I understood the meaning behind the extra quarter...and I still find it sweet and funny. I love these videos. Really shows the similarities in how some of us were raised. I wish we could have a gathering of those of us raised this way. I wonder if there are major similarities in our personalities as adults.

Parents genuinely apologizing to their children strengthens the bond. It lets the child know that the parent is human & they make mistakes too. I wish all parents knew that the trade off for a good relationship with your child is a little accountability from the parent. Such a small trade off that most parents don’t learn. These parents deserve the respect cuz it’s not easy to hold yourself accountable especially to your children.

My French-Canadian stepmom & Portuguese-Anglo dad were like this - indirect niceness with a little softening-up, but no apologies!
My mom was more of a flip-flopper - either lots of rules or totally giving in, with minimal rules. She had us pretty young & didn't really read-up enough on parenting at the time, probably. We were born in the early 60's, so there weren't that many parenting books back then - just Dr. Spock & stuff like that. She knows a lot more about communication & psychology now, so that's what really matters, right?
My stepmother & dad - still pretty much the same!

@@marcvu4379 Not at all. I don't even think the idea of being my kid's friend plays into this at all. I want to be a mom that teaches my kids what accountability for one's self looks like by being a model of that. I want my kids to understand that the rules I put in place for them are to keep them safe and help them become the best people they can possibly be, but sometimes I get it wrong, because I'm human and that's OK. But then as a decent human being who can learn and grow from their mistakes, I should be able to acknowledge when I'm wrong and be accountable. And do better next time. I don't know about you, but that's a lesson I want my kids to learn. As parents, we sometimes make the mistake of thinking we can teach just by speaking, but kids watch what we do and that's more likely what they pick up. So I try to be the person I want my kids to grow up to be. But hey to each his own. 🤷🏾‍♀️

My mother passed in a car accident and my young nana raised me, these skits are so friggin good, the "life alert" one was absolutely a riot, they're all good. My nana was from Riverton Park in Portland Maine, poor, most of her younger DayZ and she had that attitude- her way or the highway, she tell you to jump, you say, "how high??" Now a DayZ the whole family has emotional intelligence because of tradejeds bringius together and DBT classes and she's still badass at 76, but last week she came out with, "Davie can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag" lmao. I've always enjoyed light funnies about black culture and the makers of this content are brilliant. Well done. Very well done. Creative & classy.

First of all she punished him because he did something he shouldn't have done. She's giving him privileges back early because she felt bad.
Now, that's a mistake because parents should stick to the punishment. But to call her a narcissist is absolutely wrong. A narcissist doesn't feel bad about anything, doesn't have remorse, and does not feel empathy. Your judgment is harsh and wrong.

So true then as the kids get older they get mad about how they are. I wonder where it came from. That was not an apology. Messed up adults can raise messeds up kids and sometimes turn into messed up adults. Break the cycle.

We don’t know the backstory of the skit, but not all narcissists are so cut and dry like that … Some have narcissistic tendencies, but aren’t full blown “narcissists”. My white mother was extremely narcissistic in her parenting, but possessed certain qualities outside that textbook description … The point here is that a parent should lead by example, which means humbling themself to apologize, without passive aggression and ego.
