Old Emmerdale Farm brings back so many happy memories of my Nan. Sat beside her feet watching this a kid, and then going in car with dad to bring her home. Miss her…
I used to watch this with my great grandmother. She was born in 1906 and loved to watch this show right until she passed away in 1998. It used to be in the Saturday evening slot at Svt 2 back home in Sweden during the 1980's. Back then, the show reminded us a bit of our own village and the small farms surrounding it. The show was'nt as violent back then, compared to these days.
I used to like watching Emmerdale Farm back in the 1980's. Good old memorable characters, good story lines, when it was all about a farm. Bleedin crap nowadays, tin pot characters, awful revamped theme. Load o goolies
Up till 1988 each area set it's own licensing hours Newark for example was 10.30am till 2.30pm then 6.00 till 10.30pm and 12 till 2 and 7 till 10 on a Sunday whilst 3 miles up the road in Lincolnshire it was 10.30 till 3.00 then 6.00 till 11.00 and 12 till 2 and 7 till 10.30 on a Sunday.
2:30 noun Tautology saying of the same thing twice over in different words, generally considered to be a fault of style (e.g. they arrived one after the other in succession ). a phrase or expression in which the same thing is said twice in different words. plural noun: tautologies. The English language is phenomenal.
What a load of tosh, I find it hard to believe that village bobbies would arrest someone for that! More likely they would take off their hats and have a couple themselves!!!
Emmerdale farm series was educational for everyone interested in farming but if credit rating fall so do farming information changes to move away from the real picture of farming life in the Dales and country farming communities of Britain.
Farming isn't as popular now. If they wanted to keep the show they'd have to make changes and have big events to keep viewers watching. Sure it was educational but all the educational shows now are pretty much documentaries and kids TV as educational tv series aren't popular anymore.
It's funny how so many people think that the show was never dramatic back then... Yet, just a few weeks after this episode aired, Tom Merrick was sentenced to 5 months in prison for killing fish with gelignite bombs and Jack Sugden cheated on his wife when he headed off for a dirty weekend away with his mistress. Also, it makes me laugh when viewers say how the show should go back to how it was in the 1980s... But that would be so wrong, not to mention illogical. The world has moved on a lot in the 38 years since 1984... I'm glad it's different now, because people, times, technology and fashion are different now... We already have Emmerdale that was set in the 1980s... What we have right now is what we need right now... Emmerdale that is set in the 2020s, and that includes social media based issues, internet technology, which have to be portrayed as things that exist in the present day.
Another thing to note... At the time this episode was broadcast, Jack Sugden was cheating his first wife, Pat, by having secret hotel room meet ups with auctioneer, Karen Moore.

3 years late but for future reference, this is from Episode 892 (20th September 1984)
That's some fantastic quality!
Could easily pass off for today that.
Will Scarlett lol Colin blogs Watson
Yes very good, I am sure that is how it looked when originally broadcast in 1984.
Must have some sweet-ass ITV signal quality that evening!
Yes but this is the original broadcast quality though. If you watched it in 1984 the picture would be as sharp as what you see now in the clip.

Classic
What did Amos and Mr Wilkes get nicked for ?
What did they do wrong ?
In those days landlords were obliged by law to call last orders by approx. 10.50 and stop serving drinks by 11pm.
I must say the police were a bit hard on Amos Bearly and Henry Wilks in those days, lol
There’s absolutely no way that today’s modern police service would have the resources, or the capacity, to deal with a breach of last orders

Wez, Last orders are at 10:50, plus Amos Brearly was criticsing the copper speech, So he told Amos Brearly I make it bland and simple, Your nicked.
That was more the metropolitan police's style.
@@scottpeacock5492 you're nicked. 😂

Seth had more lives than a cat being shot at presumed dead in the plane crash and finally the minibus crash.
