Just what I needed! Thank you Bob for your detailed description of the concert. It's good to hear that Sara is OK! Angelina was clearly very comfortable and open. Your views certainly align with mine. As Angelina and Sara have said, 2025 should be a very good year for the Astar family and, of course, all of us Angels.
Another great episode, this time with Robert Palmer with the after concert details for the people who were not there. A special thank you to Robert for appearing on this podcast and a big thank you to Alan and Pontus for another great show!
Thank you for a great podcast. Robert Palmer was a delightful guest. His commentary and the experience at the concert was very personable and warm. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to the entire “wrapped in a warm blanket “ family.
Still hoping that for next April 7th she will appear in a jazz club setting in Harlem, New York to celebrate Billie Holiday's Birthday. Call it 'A Night With Billie & Angelina', and have Billie shown singing her famous ballads on a large video screen with audio, followed by Angelina repeating the same songs 'live'. It would be an epic event that when released throughout the world, would bring Angelina's music to a large audience of people, many who are not yet familiar with our barefoot princess. It would signify the passing of the baton from 'The First Queen Of Jazz' to 'The Present Queen Of Jazz'.
Robert, thank you for your wonderfully entertaining and accurate description of the concert. I saw the Vegas and Glendale shows and this was her best yet IMHO. She was very relaxed while stretching her limits even more than before. I was sitting right behind Steve Callaway and I had planned to only film a few parts of the concert but it was all so good I got the whole thing including the very tardy encore. Also, I was right next to Peter Hormell who had your microphone and I agree with you about the sound engineering. My phone captured the best sound of all three concerts I attended. Thanks again for the excellent description and thanks to Alan and Pontus for these podcasts.
Robert Palmer, you did a great job reviewing the concert. I was so happy to have a lengthy chat with you at the gathering of angels, prior to the concert.
I asked you repeatedly how many tickets were sold. You ignored my every approach. I’m clearly not a high enough ranking “angel” to warrant a response from you. Not to worry Andy, I got the info elsewhere.

This is amazing guys, Thank You so much. Please Do not think that all Angels are sophisticated and high-level professionals. I for example am a High School graduate, lifelong computer draftsman. Absolutely LOVED the entire video every single precious millisecond of it. A HUGE THANKS TO Robert, Alan & Pontus. Have seldom, very seldom been or felt happier....
That' s funny, i saw once again the whole concert (6th time or so last 7 days), and once again at the end i was thinking about, was she not coming out for an encore? Than i checked the new AJ videos, found that one here, and get an answer for the encore with princess of ruins.... What a perfect timing you got... 😃 have a nice christmas time 🎄🎄🎄
Nice conversation and as we are always starving for news most appreciated. Perhaps you guys should try and interview some of the band members as it could be very interesting for the fans? Something like Alan did with Egil and Ivan.
Believe me, we have tried!! It's all much more difficult than you can imagine. We have interviews lined up but then they're cancelled. It appears to all be a bit of a 'closed shop'. Maybe it might be more relaxed now that she's not with Rep Rec anymore..... Having said all that, we do have someone lined up for an interview who was behind the scenes at the El Rey. But let's not hold our breath.....
I was there?at EkRey. I hope hollywood doesnt mess her up as it has others. The capacity is 770 standing room according to El Rey management. We had about 300 with chairs. It was intimate and good for us. Balconey was closed. I brought 4 new converts to the show from the Chicago area. There was onfusion with the outside help. But it didnt really bother me much. Angelina really worked to make her show a hit.
Wwooww great episode with Mr Robert Palmer but please don't forget make close captions available... You have many subscribers who doesn't speak english so fluently, so close captions helps a lot to understand everything you and your guest said... Please..
Thank you Alan, Pontus and Robert! This was very useful info for people who have not been at the concert, like myself. I’m slow to react this time, but have a few comments. Alan: I fully agree with your statement that “you have to redefine what you’ve heard and felt” once you’ve been captured by Angelina’s magic. To try to understand how her sound can have this effect on me has kept me busy for a long time. Pontus: Does one need to be open to be captured by AJ? Maybe one also has to be in need to be captured by AJ? It could have been for you, but for me, I was not in need of emotional comfort, I had no sorrow to process at that time. I was captured by what I heard and thought “if this is really someone with an incredible talent, I want to know all about her. She could be the sensation of the century!”. But what followed was even more rewarding, her ability to touch my feelings, singing about experiences she has not lived, but can express even better than people who have lived through these experiences is so uplifting to me.” So, yes, I think one has to be open, but also one has to have the sensitivity to feel the emotions she conveys. Not everyone seems to feel them. Robert: I’m very happy to hear that Angelina covered so many styles and not limit her style to that of “Old Enough”. I’m also happy that her voice stood out well above the other instruments. Many angels made this comment after her Portsmouth concert. Also doing more intimate songs with only piano accompaniment feels to me the right thing to do at such a concert. I remember the impact of the slow version of Unchained Melody at her Portsmouth concert. Thanks again Robert, Pontus and Alan! I greatly appreciate your effort to share this info and your thoughts 🙏
Guys, remember I have said, Angelina is not going to do those 40.000 shows. She won’t have those big productions behind her. She is a natural singer. Not a product of Technology. She will always make you feel . Think, and experience. Sarah Vaughn toured with 3 instruments. Piano, Upright Bass, and Drums. That is a Vein Angelina is set for. But she has to gather the younger set somewhere along the way.
Something that are getting me a bit frustrated is... that some time ago i bought a ticket for an Aurora concert that lasted for 2 hours... and I paid 37.66 dollars 😮 The Angelina concerts are really expensive 😢
Regarding number of seats for the show, based on the layout on the AXS website, about 400 seats were available for this show. How many were actually sold in the end, I don’t know. A few days before the show about half had been sold. They did rearrange the seats based on the numbers of seats actually used. For example, the tickets I purchased were for a few rows behind where we ended up sitting. They did not set up seats behind us. We actually had to go to the box office so they could give us different tickets. So in the end we sat closer. I think some of the unsold tickets were given to guests because there were people at the box office that were on a guest list.
Whether or not she is moving away from the style of Old Enough/Our Time is really an unknown since she really hasn’t released much since. If not for Toby Gad she would not have released anything this year. Also, she was asked by Toby to record the stripped down version of If I Were a Boy . They also released a more pop version. We may not know what direction she is going until she finally releases a full album. It may be a hybrid of styles.
The drummer is very good but is not suited for Angelina's style. The drummer she performs with in Norway works better. I agree with this gentleman. I've come to the conclusion that Angelina is not a arena performer and should never be one. She's a blues, jazz, soul singer and that music works best in clubs and small theaters. The greats of the past, such as Billie, Ella, Etta and even modern day singers such as Amy and Adele are not arena acts. We'll leave the arenas to Taylor and the other half dressed dancing circus acts.
Angelina needs to put out a actual hands on album like Adele for people to buy, and see her picture on the cover in order to realize just who is singing the songs, not just a name listed on Spotify.
Interesting podcast. I find Angelina a conundrum. Her family is all in on seeing her successful, and it may come to fruition. And yet she isn't among the A-list singers, by popularity --- even though she has talent equal to or better than the best; Adele quality. .Famous artists and producers have worked with her with Toby Gad the latest. In sum, she has a solid family base, the talent and professional support. There is plenty of time as she is coming up on 19 years of age. It just makes no sense as to why she is not already a household name.
Adele got lucky and got a slot on a big talkshow on short notice. That pushed her first album. The momentum Angie got from her big three minutes on AGT was stopped cold by covid. She didnt have any follow up releases that could hold that attention. She got quite some coverage worldwide for that on YT, but that does nothing in the US. The marble in the jar is that Republican Records just twiddled their thumbs, instead of giving her proper marketing support.
@@yves2932 I’ve been thinking about doing a video talking about the big picture. While I’m a top supporter of AJ’s singing, anyone on her team including herself could be a guest on a podcast, or post on a reactor/creator site bc of all the work done by some of these people. I think this is like a start up, they don’t want to give any equity away for promotion bc of wanting 100% of the big money when she hits. This is a business, ev wants to be rich and famous.
Another conundrum is the type of music she focuses on going forward. A lot of her fans, most likely older fans, prefer the old jazz and standards that she has done and want her to stay in that lane and would rather she just have simplified instrumentation. However I think most of us agree that she will need to attract more younger fans, for obvious reasons, for her career to really tame off and be sustainable. The problem is it’s probably not going to happen if she only stays in the Jazz field. She has shown and discussed how important creating her own music is and most of her originals are in a more contemporary style wirh a retro slant. Many of her Instagram and Tik Tik shorts show that she is a lover of all music. However some of her current fans don’t care for her originals as much and do not care tor the contemporary production. They sometimes criticize the producers for the production but since Angelina is very hands on, we have to assume that she most likely is on board with the final product. So what direction does she go and how is she marketed? I think the decision for her is to do what she wants to do and what she feels says what she wants you to say. Everyone may not like everything she does but she needs to be true to herself.
@@pjg58x If you listen to the sound of her songs released with RR on Spotify and compare it to her concerts, it almost could be two different artists. And I prefer that one I've seen live on stage. I assume that's the version that's most true to herself, too. Without the influence of any producers. Now if that sound is suitable to break through might be a different question. But then again, I recently heard a claim artists have their breakthrough on average after releasing 30 songs. If true, we're two full albums away from that point and it'll be years before we're there. And covers vs originals - if you write a song from scratch maybe one in 100 will be succesful. If you work with an existing hit, thats like a short cut. Much easier.
I would love to see her live, she is absolutely stunning and so talented but did someone say it was $900 USD? Come on man, I paid 300 plus for McCartney and less several times for Springsteen and it was well worth it. But 900 bucks is too much, I assume if only 300 folks came, the same ones who go to every show, this needs to change. Maybe she will never be an arena act but she has to make it more attainable to her millions of fans or she will always be a cult type genius performer. I understand she is from a wealthy family and travels by private jet but make it more reasonable for the less privileged or those who don’t want to travel to L.A. or London or whatever. I have seen huge acts in relatively off the main road places like Durham, NC and Columbia, MD. She is so talented it is something that needs to be more attainable for her fans. She is still very young, maybe she will want to expand more as she gets older.
You could get tickets for 150 in the back or around 200 on the sides. But yes, front row was maxing out what ppl were willing to pay with 900 and 400. I didnt even pay that much for Adele in Munich😎
I agree that the ticket prices are surprisingly high. I’ve been to all 3 of her shows this year but had to buy the cheapest seats. In fact i didn’t immediately decide to go to the Christmas show because of costs. I guess some Angels that go to all her shows and sit up front have the means to do so but most don’t. I’m not sure what the cost is to put on a show. I’m sure including artists like Jimmy Z, Toby Gad and Scott Hoying will drive up the cost but some of the tickets still seem extremely high, especially for someone that is still relatively unknown. I’m sure the prices are a factor for slow ticket sales as is the short notices for her shows. This will make it difficult for casual Angels and if she increases her younger audience.
@ I work in a suburban high school that is very diverse, about 37% White, the rest is Asian ( especially Korean) and then SE Asian Indian, a rather small percentage of African Americans. None of the students I have asked know who AJ is. Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and other female artists are popular but they are a different genre. Overall in my school rap is still the most popular music style. Jazz influenced music is still not very popular or even recognized by many in AJ’s age group but she has always been an old soul. Unfortunately, many of her most fervent Angels are simply not going to live that much longer or are not able to travel extensively to see her.
@@leebrn8588 I didnt see any mention of it this time and I've seen no one talking about it. So I guess the 900$ tickets didnt include a meet and greet.
Someone should at least show what all she sang in those 3 hours. ll I am getting is the same 5 over and over. How about the other 13 songs? I was hoping she would sing "YOU SAY" again for this Christmas concert. Maybe she did?
She did not Lee. You can check out Yves recording of the entire concert (see his link above). As to the very highly produced videos of individual songs… it takes time. James Thiel admitted that he spent over 40 HOURS putting together Angelina’s performance of “I Will Always Love You.” Please be patient. 😬🥰
It's taking a bit more time to collect the people who recorded the performances from the concert than expected. Chris Walker and James Thiel are still working on them and will have more concert videos soon...

You could get tickets for 150 in the back or around 200 on the sides. But yes, front row was maxing out what ppl were willing to pay with 900 and 400. I didnt even pay that much for Adele in Munich😎
@@yves2932 Did that $900 include "Meet and Greet?
I posted the full concert (minus the encore) on my channel. It was less talking this time and all in all 1.5 h.
@@yves2932 Thanks, This concert is not getting the exposure it should. The last one was much better
Great podcast Alan and Pontus
And Robert gives a great interview as always
Angelina is an artist that you can never have enough of
I can’t wait to see her again
I feel concerned for Angelina. She seems to be caught up in the American over the top fashion vanity. I love the Norwegian natural beauty of women.
Anyone under 50 at the concert?
Sure, I'm under fifty😎
I actually saw two young men around 18 before me when we were queuing for entry. But admittedly those stood out like unicorns in that crowd. Lets hope they bring their friends next time.
There aren’t many young folk that can afford the ticket prices.
My son 20 and nephew 33 were at the show.
