I just inherited a Farmall A that was my PaPa's. His father died when he was 14 and he had to be the breadwinner for himself, his mother (couldnt work) and his four siblings. He pushed a plow, and drove a plow with a horse and then one day he was able to get this. They were very poor and the tractor meant so much to him. He hadnt used in decades but every year hed go crank it up and make sure it still ran. Ill be getting it next weekend and Im gonna record my progress with it. Cant wait to see what you do with this and glad these old tractors are in good hands. People dont realie a horse can plow an acre in a day, but a man would have to spend 96 working hours to do that and a tractor even a small one like this can plow 10-20 acres in a day. These would have meant a whole lot to the people that had these originally and they deserve some grace in retirement I believe.

Nice video, thanks! The A was the first thing I ever drove some 40 years ago. Not too many people left that can say they hand crank started the first vehicle they ever drove lol. I finally just got my own A last week after wanting one since that day. Mine also has a home made hydro 3 pt lift but run off the PTO. Yours looks like a repurposed power steering pump. Never seen that before. Anyway good luck with her and thanks again!

I was born in 1954. , until 1963 dad farmed with a 1950 G John Deere and a 1936 A John Deere. The G you started on gasoline. When it warmed up you switched it tractor fuel. (Dis let) Dad run it on gasoline all the time. The engine made more horse power on gasoline. That burned the valves. A mechanic suggested this, every other tank of gas put in 2 quarts kerosene. As a boy we were eating supper. Dad was telling mom the kerosene made a difference. The gas tank held about 25 gallons.
