  • Most Hebrew teachers never talk about the infinitive. It drives Western students (aka speakers of a European mother tongue) crazy.

    תודה! 😃
I am working my way slowly (old-gal retention) through a textbook so I'm only working with paal verbs and a few piel verbs as they come up. But I love the "advance" info I get from you, which I hope will pre-reinforce (I made that up) when I actually come across the other binyanim in my lessons.
Incidentally, pronunciation is always a bit of guess-work when I read aloud to myself the graded reading assignments; but gradually, between consulting my fluent-in-Hebrew son-in-law (I don't like being a nuisance so I try to buttonhole him with a succinct list of questions at family get-togethers) and randomly picking up what I can from a number of Hebrew You Tube channels. (I was introduced to Hebrew phonetics 60 years ago by one of my friends in gym class, so my hearing and speaking modern Hebrew while not entirely from scratch, requires flexibility and a bit on unlearning from time to time.)
I say all that because recently you posted a direct explanation on the pronunciation of shva na. I had been hearing "eh" but hadn't fully recognized the prevalence of "eh", to the exclusion of my "ih", "uh" approach, until you clarified the pronunciation a few days ago. Now I have a new kind of exercise, to go back through the reading selections, carefully correcting that significant pronunciation hurdle.
    תודה רבה! 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

Thank you for this video! How about ‏נפעל ? In this case, The pattern of the infinitive does not apply to the pattern of the present tense, I believe. (But I think it applies to the future tense and maybe (??) the imperative.)

Every binyan has its own pattern for each tense. Additionally, these patterns vary according to the root type, the gizra.
