Seems like when I was watching the other videos they seem to make it seem like it was really super complicated. I did not find it hard at all. I’ve changed much harder alternators then this one, so I didn’t quite get it. That’s why I ended up making this video.
When hot and at a stop or slowing voltage drops to 12 in the red and engine stalls occasionally. Cleaned the battery terminals but occasionally does the same thing. 2002 SS
@@sharpcarco about 235,000 miles, The water pump went earlier but was only the large O ring on the backing plate that failed but once you have it off and a new one beside you, you just replace it. Original tranny working great, just had to replace the pan gasket after 20 years. It's done remarkably well
Clay you the man nice detailed video gloves are for wuss's , I've been told the exciter wire should be swaped for each alt. swap is this true of false? also where doe's the other end of the exciter wire connect to. I did the alt. about 15 years ago replaced this wire but forgot where it splices into. thanks Clay.
Not that I’m aware of but. It depends on if there’s any corrosion and it really wires are forever just like James Bond…. But I don’t really know. I’ve never heard that. I think somebody was getting just a little bit to precocious.
They should definitely spin. It should have a space washer, so the idler pulley spins the tensioner should also move up and down with the bolts tight. I’m not quite sure which one you’re
Without seeing any videos my husband decided to take the alternator off and the single wire from the back snapped off it was really old is there any way to fix this thank you
My car was missing once In a while. it's more like a power surge Is the best way I could describe It. I was feeling around On different things trying to find the rattle that sounded like plastic clicking against plastic but when I layed my hand on the alternator the car died and will start for like three seconds and die again.. Have you ever encountered this?
Well the problem ended up being that the steering column wires are broken on the inside and I didn’t have time while I was on my trip down there to take the steering column apart to repair it properly I replaced the ignition module on the end of the start lever . But that didn’t solve the problem so then I did more investigating and found that the Warriors were broken but because the way this steering columns are put together they’re not very simple to disassemble so it would’ve been best to replace The steering column . But because his is low mileage and one owner I would never want to do that in that situation. 90% of the time I would just replace the steering column.

The voltage regulator in the alternator is bad needs to be rebuilt.
