  • Welcome everyone to my review of the 2023 Subaru Forrester.
The Forrester is one of Subaru most important models and has been with us for over 25 years. It’s a very no nonsense car providing the family with a SUV that can go off road. There was even a WRX STI version a few years ago!
This latest version, however doesn’t come with that rally in pedigree, but a hybrid set up. The e-boxer hybrid is designed to provide additional efficiency when driving, but also additional torque when going off road.
The car comes as standard with Subarus symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, which is one of the best out there .
Under the bonnet, we have a two litre boxer engine producing 148 brake horsepower. That is mated to a CVT box and all-wheel-drive.
For 2023 the Forester has been given a few tweaks to the exterior to keep it looking fresh but underneath it does ultimately remain the same car. How do these tweaks help the forester stack up against a very competitive segment, which also includes hybrid cars with all-wheel-drive.
Stick with me to find out.

Love this car. It'll still be driving when most other SUVs have fallen to bits. Great review.

Engine power, spare tyre, 3rd seat of second row a bit less stiff... I really loved your video, specially the conclusions part. Loved it. Thank you for the review, and thank you to Subaru for continuing fighting for us UK/Europe.

The Forester hybrid is a pointless exercise given it gives little if any fuel saving to the naturally aspirated 2.5lt Forester. It is inferior to the Toyota RAV4 hybrid by a considerable margin. One can only hope that the next generation Forester to be announced in a couple of weeks provides a much more impressive hybrid option.

Its expensive to buy for what it is, youre correct about the Subaru hybrid system, it aids power a bit but it gives no better fuel economy which makes it completely pointless. The Forester hybrid now weighs about as much as the previous shape Outback, which is a far better car and even if the 2.5 engine is a bit dated now, I really liked it and is the best engine they offer in the UK. I worked in the motor trade for a few years, spoke to salesman once at a Subaru dealer in Scotland and even he couldn’t see the point of the hybrid. Imagine trying to sell the benefits of it ?

It is quick as a Sandero with a 1.0 engine yet drinks fuel like a car twice its power and is expensive as shit in the EU. It goes slow and at least it has high fuel consumption... what a great deal. Unless buyers absolutely need AWD - they don't, the vast majority won't need it - there is no logical reason buying this emaciated performer over a RAV4.

A superb car unless you miss the point entirely, which for most people is what happens when you mention Subaru to them.

The CVT is terrible, forever revving up and down with little change in speed. The performance is pretty terrible, which i was dissapointed with. The screens are too clutterred with acronyms for everything. Not very economical, not much point in lugging around the weight of a battery and motor for little gain. If you dont need 4wd the Nissan Qashqui E-power is a better drive overall and has excellent performance.

Not a word about the safety and off road capabilities? Tesla is junk compared to this on forest roads and on ice.

I have mentioned the eyesight system before in videos. There will be a separate off-road video coming. It’ll even feature a bit of snow.

This is one of the worst reviews I've seen, full of inconsistencies, many mistakes, and mis-information.
Typical of someone who only driven the car for one week.
Rav 4 👎 is more expensive to buy, more to insure.
Does not use radar cruse control it uses cameras.
You can recline the rear seats.
The wing mirror camera is for parking (which is why it has yellow guidelines).
The rear hatch has a height limiter to stop striking low ceilings in confied garages.
It has an 8.4" ride height.
I have achieve 42mpg on the motorway.
I have lower back problems. A lack of lumbar support isn't a problem. The seats are great.
Because of the boxer engine sitting low, it's very planted, in corners
The sound system is harman kardon.
    I like buttons, not screens.
It's very safe, with a 97% Adult occupancy rating from NCAP and a 91% Child occupancy rating.
It's not fast, it's not economical.
If it has a fault it's the Toyota hybrid system, the battery is too small as is the electric motor.

      Hey there David.
Sorry to hear you didn’t like the review. Yes I only had the car for the week. Same as other reviewers.
I didn’t have Harmon Kardon sound system in the car.
The lack of lumbar support can generally have a negative affect to the of the lower back (it’s not all about you). I have featured the eye-sight system before, plus got to chuck the Forester around a track and watch/feel it under steer.
I’m pretty sure I like a button too David.
The wing camera was again a weird one as I’m pretty good at parking.
David it sounds like you might need a hug. Sending one your way.
      Dave

Looks like a new old stock car from 15 years ago. Can't imagine anyone other than die hard Subaru fans will buy this.
