well its like many animes nowadays especially shounen animes have this new thing going on where the main character has a certain RIVAL or Best Friend who is AS strong as the mc and has as good potential as the mc. And this certain rival is many times more popular and liked than even the mc himself. Some examples of this rival are Killua In Hunter X Hunter Karma in Assassination Classroom Sasuke in naruto Todoroki and Bakugo in My hero academia and many many more
